my husband and i have stopped at salvatori's (original new haven location) for years on our way from oh to mi to visit family. our first stop there was simply because it was at our halfway mark. now we go there because we are addicted. i do not use the term "addicted" lightly but i'll admit we were and still are gastronomically adhered to this place! after loving the food in italy when traveling abroad we were amazed when we found the best italian food of our lives, about 2.5 hrs from our home in dayton, oh we've tried their spaghetti, lasagna, pasta primavera, italian wedding soup, and many many other of their delicious dishes and each one was a perfection of rich italian flavor with pasta always cooked expertly and served piping hot! this restaurant is an inconspicuous hole in the wall with booths and tables rather close together and usually packed with customers who wait, a bit uncomfortably, near the open kitchen. the service is friendly but not fast as the kitchen is busy with so many customers for so small a place but there is no doubt the wait is absolutely worth it. tomorrow we will again pick up our large pan of lasagna to haul to mich so that we can feed the hungry crowd of teens that await our arrival, not because they are necessarily glad to see us, but because of the treasure we bring them. everyone in our family loves it. mmmm in fact salvatori's lasagna and garlic bread, of this caliber, is our secret to get them off their computers long enough to quickly greet us and shout, let's eat! this place works magic on all of us!
