i visited rosso last friday with 4 other family members and we had a fantastic night. all staff from door, to bar and table service were very friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. thefoodwas devine and the portions were of generous size. the decor is plush, crisp and fresh with a great atmosphere. now my firm favourite manchester restaurant. i would definitely recommend and i will certainly be going again!

this place is owned by rio ferdinand and has very high reviews, so i decided to give it a try before the united match. the restaurant was very well decorated for christmas. you can see that this place is classy, not expecting this from rio. :p the service was really prompt. thefoodis good italian. probably would not go again before a match because of lack of atmosphere, but this is an excellent place for fine dining.

we came here for my partners birthday we got told we had to book way in advance to get in but i rung up on the same night (sat) and managed to get a table. we had heard brilliant things about rosso so was very excited to visit once we arrived we got shown to our table straight away so we ordered 2 cocktails with our non english speaking waiter! they took forever to come as he was so busy and when he finally arrived with them he got the order wrong! we had them anyway as there was no way we were waiting any longer for more drinks! we ordered 2 main meals but felt very uncomfortable eating as there were so many people all crammed in one place you couldn't stretch your arm out without touching the people sat next to you, not the sort of intimate setting we were after. it's such a shame as thefoodwas good. we would like to give it another go but i wouldn't recommend going on a weekend if you want a nice romantic dinner as you can hardly hear each other speak for the noise of everyone else talking. the best part of the night was meeting tom cleverly the united player, if you like to do a bit of star spotting your in the right place!

to conclude, rosso is i think the epitome of a place where the quality offoodseems to be less important than the other elements; the service and atmosphere are excellent. sadly this just isn't enough for me. thefoodhas to be better than this to make me want to return. in short: rosso is all style with little substance.

rosso sits majestically at the top of king street west in a beautiful victorian building which use to be a bank. it is owned by manchester united's own rio ferdinand. it is a classy affair and home to one of the best lunch deals in the city. a group of ten of us went a few weeks ago and we were very impressed. we sampled the spring/summer lunch menu, which offered a nice selection of seasonal food, with vegetarians being well catered for. the lunch deal in question is £12.95 for a starter and a main dish and if you partake of this deal then bottles of house wine go for £5.95 (and the wine was very nice - slurp!). so all in all a pretty good deal, especially if you are after a bit of a boozy lunch. i went for butternut squash soup to start, which came out in a huge bowl and had a big dollop of cream freche in it. pleasant enough but i did have a bit offoodenvy as my companions chomped down on an interesting beetroot salad. another hit was the chicken livers and balsamic sauce on rusti

walking into the building was amazing. it left you breathless with the surrounding view. this breathlessness however didnt leave me when i visited the the bar. this was however for a different reason. the bar manager was so rude, not just to myself, but other members of his team. this seemed to follow through with certain members of the table staff. the waiting staff were fantastic and thefoodcertainly matched the reputation, however the staff that wear the suite and tie need to get back down to earth. the waiter of our table was too busy in what was going on behind him that he had to take my order twice. there were other issues that affected the evening but let me know if you get.

what a find. newcomers to manchester and we were wandering around downtown and were pointed towards rosso. staff were great getting our party of 2 right in, i know that's not typical but still nice from the staff.foodwas great, our garlic bread was really a small pizza that was very good. pasta in the mains was very well done. my cherry desert was so light it made the meal.

lovely building butfoodnot up to the prices. i had tagliatelle nere yesterday with clams. pasta was stuck together andfoodreally needed garlic and chili. for these prices someone could at least stirr the pasta while it's boiling. chocolate cake seemed microwaved as icing had completely melted away. pictures on the walls of 'celebrity diners' is a bit off-putting. staff friendly and helpful.
