rosso sits majestically at the top of king street west in a beautiful victorian building which use to be a bank. it is owned by manchester united's own rio ferdinand. it is a classy affair and home to one of the best lunch deals in the city. a group of ten of us went a few weeks ago and we were very impressed. we sampled the spring/summer lunch menu, which offered a nice selection of seasonal food, with vegetarians being well catered for. the lunch deal in question is £12.95 for a starter and a main dish and if you partake of this deal then bottles of house wine go for £5.95 (and the wine was very nice - slurp!). so all in all a pretty good deal, especially if you are after a bit of a boozy lunch. i went for butternut squash soup to start, which came out in a huge bowl and had a big dollop of cream freche in it. pleasant enough but i did have a bit offoodenvy as my companions chomped down on an interesting beetroot salad. another hit was the chicken livers and balsamic sauce on rusti
