what is this stuff? besides tasty, that is.. roscoe's had me regretting my decision to get their food from the moment i stopped in until the moment i lifted one of their nachos to my mouth. what happened after that left me confused, so i quickly ran to the bathroom to look in the mirror. "who is this?" i asked my reflection, shocked at the fact that his taste buds were telling him that roscoe's tacos, despite its appearance, actually tastes good.
let's back up. first of all, i came in for the first time on a thursday night. the place was packed as in, no seats available. the heat on the inside was almost as bad as the outside. "saving money on the a/c" i thought to myself. "i wonder what else they're saving money on..." obviously not decor or even general cleaning supplies, as the place had a dingy and dirty appearance. i should've turned around and walked away. but the reviews! the reviews! they all said it was good! but why on earth would a taco place put black olives on tacos and burritos?! it was so unnatural. consulting the menu over and over, nothing stood out to me as unique or particularly appetizing, so i closed my eyes and pointed to a menu in front of the cashier, which i'm sure is what some gambler's do at the roullete wheel.
taking home my shredded beef and chicken burritos as well as an order of their nachos, i weerily presented them to my wife and her friend. all ingredients seriously look like they were the kind you'd buy at sam's club prior to setting up a charity food stand. but somehow, the cominations worked. the bottom line about their food is this: you must use their sauce on every bite, or you will taste the blandness that exudes from their shredded chicken (which is dry like many reviewers said), but their shredded beef was surprisingly well seasoned. the nacho's were absolutely smothered in a nacho cheese/sour cream mixture that had tons of onions (why?!) and tomatoes mixed in and was shockingly, pretty good.
i don't want to come back here again because i figured for the $40 i spent (5 burritos and 1 plate of nachos) that i would get something more fresh. but i haven't visited enoughmexicanplaces around greenwood to know where to really go just yet.
