over-rated. i write a fair and objective review. my wife and i have been to ringside glendoveer and it did not disappoint. our first and last visit to ringside fox tower, and ringside per se, occurred last wednesday evening, nov. 24, 2010. it was to celebrate my eldest son's birthday. ringside kitchen staff took away this fine moment.
three problems occurred: 1. a very cold draft coming to the dining area from street level. 2. near tasteless, dry steaks. without exaggerration, i have have always had better filet mignon from costco. 3. a wine menu that should be in the waldrof astoria hotel in ny. prices were ridiculously high, truly laughable.
we dealt with the cold draft and simply did without, not ordering a bottle of wine. however, getting three steaks, all poorly cooked to the point of being dry with truly little beef flavor and no juice was inexcusable. they always tout prime grade. these were usda choice and should have/could have been much better. if this had not been my son's birthday they all would have gone back for replacement! i did not want to cause an uproar. a steak cooked medium rare will be tender and have juice if 1. a good grade of beef and properly selected 2. it is properly cooked and 3. allowed to rest. i knowsteaksand how to cook them. i did not protest as i did not want to upset the evening but i was angry. $33.50 for a dry steak and potato, an all time high. they owe me $100.50.
as egregious an insult is not getting any response to two emails to ringside. i wrote each without rancor, merely outlining the events. no response. they don't care because they know they can lose me and my son as customers and it won't effect thier "bottom line" in the least.. ringside is trading on the past reputation and the fact that many people just don't have a clue about how a good quality steak should be cooked and taste. i am now going to send a paper letter to the manager and "head chef." i will return my $20 food cards given to us after the meal. i want nothing to do with them. thier failure to respond to my well reasoned notes is proof positive that they don't care.
