over priced and over hyped. we eat out quite a bit, from very nice places to mid-priced, to fast food. red prime is way over-hyped, sure, it's "cool" inside, but because of the cool, industrial factor, you are sitting on very hard, uncomfortable chairs, so it's not a very relaxing ambiance. maybe it's me, but i think being comfortable is part of the experience, so hard chairs and concrete, glass and wire really don't make much except very poor accoustics.

however, we went for the steak. the menu is somewhat limited, but that's fine, because we expected each choice would be exceptional. we started with salads, and were dissappointed with extremely heavy dressing on the romaine salad (good flavor, but just such heavy dressing that it was overpowering), and my husband had the iceberg bowl, which consisted of a chunk of lettuce filled with blue cheese dressing. he had to cut it all up himself (what's with that these days, why do we always have to cut up our own salads, take the tails off of our shrimp.....messy and inconvenient!)

the main courses were, of course, various steaks. the menu specifically stated that medium rare was a cool red center, and that medium was a warm red center, with medium well being a warm pink center. my husband switched to medium well, which was a big mistake. it was well done, more than you sometimes see in inexpensive restaurants. my son made the same mistake, luckily, i can handle a cool red center, so chose medium rare. . .so mine was only overcooked slightly for my taste. however, mine had quite a bit of fat in it and i could only eat aobut 2/3 of it. the rubs and sauces were good, but the green beans and carrots sides were not even slightly remarkable and quite small. . in fact, the carrots had more oddball looking things (beets? squash? maybe). . . and only a few actual carrots. i don't mind ala carte, but two sides really wasn't enough for the three of us, so they were quite small.

i'm sorry, but i just don't think this is a good resturant at any price, must less these prices. the service was fine, but the food and ambiance were severaly lacking and there is no way i'd ever go back. i've had better steaks for 1/4 the price, so as we often have found, trendy and high priced often results in disappointment if you're going there just for a good meal.

worst dinner experience ever!. tonight marks my first and last visit to red prime steak.

we should have walked out as soon as the hostess gave us an attitude for not having a reservation. well, what can i say, i didn't know this little hipster place was that popular. my bad. her condescending tone when suggesting we try the bar should have clued me into the attitude at this place.

we ordered two steaks. my 14 oz sirloin was ok, but, nowhere near worth the asking price that exceeded $40. the problems arose with my wife's meal. she ordered a 7oz filet and amanaged to get a bad cut of beef.. it happens. however, any other time it has happened, we've been offered a replacement steak and all is good. they wouldn't do that for us. see, after she took a few bites and realized the steak tasted funny, she asked me to taste it. apparently, our combined bites were too much for them to justify giving her a replacement meal or comping the one that she wasn't going to eat.

another problem we ran into at this dump was a locked ladies restroom. when she was unable to find someone to open it for her, she did what any resourceful woman would do. she asked me to stand outside the men's room door while she used the toilet. suddenly, the entire staff had a fit. where were they when she tried to find someone to open the ladies room?

one of the staffers actually had the gall to ask her to stop urinating mid stream and finish it now unlocked ladies room.who, in their right mind, would actually do that? then he gave me attitude when he asked me if i was going help him get her out of the restroom! no! she can come out when she's done and we will leave! with the employee and i standing by, i'm sure we can stop anyone trying to enter the men's room!

great experience....modern atmosphere!. red is a neat place. very modern atmosphere as opposed to the "cow on the wall" steakhouse you see everywhere else. we started out at the toby kieth "i love this bar" bar and took a carriage ride to the steakhouse about 4 blocks away. floor to 40 foot ceiling racks of wine that they access with a ladder. great steaks....had a 40 day aged steak with a coffee crust, paired with the green chili mac (adult mac & cheese). had some nice crab cakes, and awesome drinks. sit at the bar and let the bartenders be your guide.

great restaurant. in top 3 places for areas in okc. the atmosphere is more west coast upscale, rather than traditional midwest steakhouse--but don't let that fool you. the meals are excellent, and the service top notch. the wine list is fantastic as well. definitely worth a trip.

it's been two years since i've been to okc and enjoyed a businessman's dinner at red prime and i was worried by some negative reviews here - thinking maybe the place had gone to hell in my absence! thankfully, whatever plagued those who wrote of the demise of my favorite steakhouse kept a wide berth of me. i travel about 40 weeks a year and obviously i eat at a lot of restaurants. in all the world, of all the steakhouses i've been to, red prime is my favorite. tonight's visit did nothing to diminish my enthusiasm.

i always eat at the bar alone (business travel - i'm solo) so any reference to bad service by others is untested by me - the bartenders seldom ignore the guy who bellies up and orders a premium vodka martini. i imagine that automatically marks me as a good tipper; i am always treated well - attentive and respectful, a sentiment i always return.
my food choices are not adventuresome at red prime - i'm there for the steak. i ordered the iceberg wedge (they call it the iceberg bowl, but every other steakhouse calls it a wedge after morton's), a 10 oz filet mr w/brown sugar and sea salt crust, with jalapeno bearnaise. i splurged and added the green chili mac (very rich "mac n' cheese" - rotini actually, with green chilies for kick of spice).

i worried that by ordering my salad and steak together that i'll end up with my food all together. not the case - the barman spaces out my order perfectly and 5 minutes after i finish my salad, the steak and side arrive.

the wedge salad with maytag blue cheese is sumptuous. the dressing is tangy as it should be, and the salad has nice chunks or bacon and cherry tomatoes that have been halved and seared.

the menu says mr is "cool red center" but i know very well that the world over mr is a warm red center so i take my chances and, as expected, i get a perfect warm red center. the crust is savory / sweet perfection (i've ordered this same crust every time for several years now) - it gives the steak a crisp exterior which adds variety to the texture. the jalapeno bernaise is nice and thick, creamy with an intriguing bit of spice that melds beautifully with the sea salt and caramelized brown sugar crust.
the green chili mac is rich and decadent. i regret ordering it because it's just too tasty and i can't stop eating it.
i laugh off the idea of dessert as always - i'm ready to roll to the sidewalk as it is; the portions will never leave you wanting.
if i had to find a fault, it is that the bar manager has recently quit, leaving the liquor inventory in disarray. my first choice for vodka (ketel) is unavailable due to a failure of ordering, so i take the bartender's suggestion and try hangar one, which i like! it doesn't hurt that they serve my greatest indulgence - blue cheese stuffed olives. i order a second martini and am floored to find that they're out! i had the last drop! so i ask what's comparable and the barman tells me that only stoli elit is close and it's $24! i told him that since i was getting worked with them being out of my first two choices he should pour me the elit for $15. he laughs, gives me a high five, and pours me a stiff one of the elit.
what can i say? steak perfection, once again.

we've been going there since they opened in 2002 or so...they have always been consistent ...i think this is the best steak in town. service is good every time. not pretentious like mahogany or ranch. only complaint?...the red lighting...not everyone likes red lighting...tone down the red light a bit...otherwise perfect.

best restaurant in the city!. i'm a frequent diner at red. i've been eating there periodically for years and have always had incredible service and truly remarkable food. they have some of the best specials in town (including rare cuts you can't get anywhere else).

reading the review by jim lowe made me feel like i needed to write this review for my favorite restaurant. first, the women's restroom does not have a lock on the door. the doors don't even latch, they just push open and closed like every other restroom. second, there's no 14oz sirloin on the menu. the 14oz is a dry aged ribeye (which i remember well because it's my favorite), so it's not that surprising that it wouldn't taste like a sirloin or that the price would seem high for a sirloin. if you don't know the difference between a dry aged ribeye and a sirloin, then i don't think anyone could take your opinion about fine dining seriously. have a nice day.

as someone who has frequented red primesteak on numerous occasions i was extremely disappointed in the lackluster manner in which my party was greeted by the restaurant host. we made an impromptu drop on on a monday evening after a reception at our church. the thunder were playing were playing down in san antonio so the restaurant was about 80% vacant. one of the members in our group didn't have their driver's license, so rather than sitting at the bar, we moved to a table, which was fine. i was pretty shocked when the host turned, led us to the table, and handed over the wine list without uttering a single word. as i said before, red primesteak is a great restaurant and i would normally give it a great review. however, after the overall attitude tonight, i wonder when/if i will return!

one of my favorite places to enjoy a phenomenal steak (or anything on the menu for that matter), a bouqueted selection of wine and affordable happy hour appetizer and adult beverage selections. what better location than to be split between the skyline of downtown and the growing -historic automobile alley? i can't say enough about the "red" ambiance (especially at sunset) that sets the atmosphere -which also brings in a crowd of all legal and seasoned ages. staff and management are impeccable. i love you guys! this is a must-stop if you're visiting out of town.

best steak house i have been to so far in okc. everything from the ambience, the classiness, and the most important the food! we had the surf and turf with a 40day dry aged bone in strip with a lobster tail. **see my pics. we had crap cakes for appetizer and my oh my. i could have easily eaten two orders of those. we ended the meal with their chocolate cake with drunken cherries, caramel topping, and ice cream on top 😋. will be going there again.

definitely the best steak in town. service was top notch, atmosphere was as well. this was everything you'd expect from a restaurant at this price point. the dry aged steak was incredibly flavorful! get the lobster tail added on and you won't be disappointed.

we went for a valentine's night (we try to go out somewhere new every year). definitely way over hyped, the red "light saber "looking lights made me dizzy, service was decent, but slow. we both got fillets with crusts. i got the resoto, it was okay way too garlicy, he got the potato gratin (horrible) tasted like horse radish. total was $155, i don't think it's worth it.

great dinner with friends (4 of us) before thunder game.  crab cakes and rp tomatoes for apps.  2 of us got chopped salads and 1 romaine salad (which is a caesar salad).  i had filet med-rare with cracked pepper crust and mushroom sauce on the side. very good.  especially when you smear that roasted garlic all over it!  one got the dry aged ribeye, one got wagyu skirt steak and red snapper.  it is a must to get a little dish of that black truffle butter to dip your steak in.  heaven.  we all had bites of each and everything tasted delicious.  i only order steak at a steakhouse, but that red snapper tasted amazing.  we had green chile mac n cheese, loaded mashed potatoes and black truffle risotto as sides.
i still like ranch best, then mahogany, then broadway 10 then red prime.  but #4 out of all of okc is not a bad place to be.  the service at red is just not as great as the other places (it's really good, but not quite up there as the others).  and they have overcooked my steak on several occasions.  i didn't send back, but i did let them know when the server asked for us to cut into them.  when i'd shown the server it was medium instead of medium rare, they have offered to make another one, but i declined because it was still ok.  they will try to make it right or offer a free dessert or no charge something on the ticket.
