over priced and over hyped. we eat out quite a bit, from very nice places to mid-priced, to fast food. red prime is way over-hyped, sure, it's "cool" inside, but because of the cool, industrial factor, you are sitting on very hard, uncomfortable chairs, so it's not a very relaxing ambiance. maybe it's me, but i think being comfortable is part of the experience, so hard chairs and concrete, glass and wire really don't make much except very poor accoustics.

however, we went for the steak. the menu is somewhat limited, but that's fine, because we expected each choice would be exceptional. we started with salads, and were dissappointed with extremely heavy dressing on the romaine salad (good flavor, but just such heavy dressing that it was overpowering), and my husband had the iceberg bowl, which consisted of a chunk of lettuce filled with blue cheese dressing. he had to cut it all up himself (what's with that these days, why do we always have to cut up our own salads, take the tails off of our shrimp.....messy and inconvenient!)

the main courses were, of course, various steaks. the menu specifically stated that medium rare was a cool red center, and that medium was a warm red center, with medium well being a warm pink center. my husband switched to medium well, which was a big mistake. it was well done, more than you sometimes see in inexpensive restaurants. my son made the same mistake, luckily, i can handle a cool red center, so chose medium rare. . .so mine was only overcooked slightly for my taste. however, mine had quite a bit of fat in it and i could only eat aobut 2/3 of it. the rubs and sauces were good, but the green beans and carrots sides were not even slightly remarkable and quite small. . in fact, the carrots had more oddball looking things (beets? squash? maybe). . . and only a few actual carrots. i don't mind ala carte, but two sides really wasn't enough for the three of us, so they were quite small.

i'm sorry, but i just don't think this is agoodresturant at any price, must less these prices. the service was fine, but the food and ambiance were severaly lacking and there is no way i'd ever go back. i've had better steaks for 1/4 the price, so as we often have found, trendy and high priced often results in disappointment if you're going there just for agoodmeal.

it's been two years since i've been to okc and enjoyed a businessman's dinner at red prime and i was worried by some negative reviews here - thinking maybe the place had gone to hell in my absence! thankfully, whatever plagued those who wrote of the demise of my favorite steakhouse kept a wide berth of me. i travel about 40 weeks a year and obviously i eat at a lot of restaurants. in all the world, of all the steakhouses i've been to, red prime is my favorite. tonight's visit did nothing to diminish my enthusiasm.

i always eat at the bar alone (business travel - i'm solo) so any reference to bad service by others is untested by me - the bartenders seldom ignore the guy who bellies up and orders a premium vodka martini. i imagine that automatically marks me as agoodtipper; i am always treated well - attentive and respectful, a sentiment i always return.
my food choices are not adventuresome at red prime - i'm there for the steak. i ordered the iceberg wedge (they call it the iceberg bowl, but every other steakhouse calls it a wedge after morton's), a 10 oz filet mr w/brown sugar and sea salt crust, with jalapeno bearnaise. i splurged and added the green chili mac (very rich "mac n' cheese" - rotini actually, with green chilies for kick of spice).

i worried that by ordering my salad and steak together that i'll end up with my food all together. not the case - the barman spaces out my order perfectly and 5 minutes after i finish my salad, the steak and side arrive.

the wedge salad with maytag blue cheese is sumptuous. the dressing is tangy as it should be, and the salad has nice chunks or bacon and cherry tomatoes that have been halved and seared.

the menu says mr is "cool red center" but i know very well that the world over mr is a warm red center so i take my chances and, as expected, i get a perfect warm red center. the crust is savory / sweet perfection (i've ordered this same crust every time for several years now) - it gives the steak a crisp exterior which adds variety to the texture. the jalapeno bernaise is nice and thick, creamy with an intriguing bit of spice that melds beautifully with the sea salt and caramelized brown sugar crust.
the green chili mac is rich and decadent. i regret ordering it because it's just too tasty and i can't stop eating it.
i laugh off the idea of dessert as always - i'm ready to roll to the sidewalk as it is; the portions will never leave you wanting.
if i had to find a fault, it is that the bar manager has recently quit, leaving the liquor inventory in disarray. my first choice for vodka (ketel) is unavailable due to a failure of ordering, so i take the bartender's suggestion and try hangar one, which i like! it doesn't hurt that they serve my greatest indulgence - blue cheese stuffed olives. i order a second martini and am floored to find that they're out! i had the last drop! so i ask what's comparable and the barman tells me that only stoli elit is close and it's $24! i told him that since i was getting worked with them being out of my first two choices he should pour me the elit for $15. he laughs, gives me a high five, and pours me a stiff one of the elit.
what can i say? steak perfection, once again.

we've been going there since they opened in 2002 or so...they have always been consistent ...i think this is the best steak in town. service isgoodevery time. not pretentious like mahogany or ranch. only complaint?...the red lighting...not everyone likes red lighting...tone down the red light a bit...otherwise perfect.

recently had dinner at the red prime before a thunder game. we were quickly seated and our drink orders were taken. the waitress was great and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. she answered all of our questions. the bread was very good, as was the french onion soup. we split a bone in ribeye and ordered it medium well (my wife's choice, i am a medium guy). we got the mushroom crust and horseradish sauce. the steak was probably closer to medium when it arrived, had a little gristle, and was not quite as tender as we expected. i would describe it as not the best steak we have ever had, but pretty good. the potatoes and salad were both outstanding. overall agoodexperience, andgoodenough for a return visit, but not the best steak in okc.

great food service stinks. wonderful steaks, great appetizers! host was nice, however, our waiter had zero personality, not friendly at all. barely saw him all night, and when we did, if we would ask for something he didn't even respond. they need to make sure their waiters are better and it would be a wonderful place to go eat. food really wasgoodthough !

worth the price. we've been fortunate to be able to eat at most of the fine dining establishments in the city, and i must say that red prime is head and shoulders above their competition (actually tied with the mantel) in taste and service. i will admit it is rather pricey, yet there are options that minimize the over all sticker shock. kevin, our server, was absolutely spot on. he emanates what agoodserver should be. excellent service! finally, the food is ridiculously good. the chef has dialed in a menu that is top notch and should please even the most picky of pallets. we will definitely return upon the next "special" occasion.

don't get me wrong, the food was delicious. it was cooked perfectly, the atmosphere was unique and different from your average steakhouse, and i do appreciate that. the server was very informative, a little too dry (i would've appreciated a more welcoming attitude but that reflects more of my personal preferences as opposed to his overall serving ability). despite all the great qualities of this restaurant..i can't really bear to give it agoodreview. i'm more then willing to spend my money on a high priced establishment such as this, but i do believe that i have had better steaks for less. it costed me $9 for a side of mediocre mushrooms. the host greeted us with a cold stare and sour disposition. while i enjoyed my time and applaud it for being something out of the ordinary for local oklahoma city restaurants, i'm not likely to spend another $400 there without a really great food recommendation from a reliable source.

1st time for restaurant week. my wife and i went here for restaurant week, as we've been wanting to try it out after hearing so manygoodthings from friends. to start off, i will say that we've eaten at many high end steakhouses in dallas, houston, vegas, etc. price-wise, this was on par with all those steakhouses. quality-wise, it's sub par. not sure if they got cheap with the meat for restaurant week, but my prime sirloin was much chewier than it should've been. not sure if things would've been better if i had ordered off the menu, but this steak was not worth the money. my wife got the salmon, and it was average as well. presentation on both dishes was good, but the food left a lot to be desired. i will say that my french onion soup was excellent, and my wife's tomato appetizer was verygoodtoo. the only other nicer steaks i have eaten in okc were at metro wine bar and deep fork, and both were a long, long time ago. however, both were better steaks from what i remember. also, one of my favorite steakhouses is ruth's chris, and i tried them during restaurant week in dallas, and everything was great. i will try red prime again at some point and hope that it's better than what they served during restaurant week.

absolutely fantastic. the food really shows a chef with a lot of heart. our server was great, especially for as busy as he was. a lot of servers walked by our table looking not nearly as busy when we needed water or dirty dishes out of our faces like it was no concern of theirs... that was s little off putting, but other than that, i was impressed.goodhand crafted cocktails as well. i will return.

well worth the price.. went to red about a month and a half ago with my girlfriend. red is easily the best steakhouse in okc, and their food is well worth the price, although the decor and lighting might be somewhat off-putting for some people, which is understandable.

food: 10/10 - i had the french onion soup, 40 year old dry-aged bone-in strip, and my girlfriend had the 7oz filet. we shared the green chile mac, sauteed mushrooms, and cream brulee. the soup was far and away the best i've ever had, and was a larger portion for less money than what most other places serve. their sides were great - not a fan of mushrooms, personally, but i ate my fair share of them at red - and it goes without saying that the steaks were worth every cent. the steaks were cooked perfectly, and easily met and exceeded the expectations we had. their dessert, like their sides and appetizers, were both delicious and generous in serving size; no small plates or skimping on portions here.

service: 10/10 - attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. our waiter had a solid grasp on both the food and drink menu, and when we went with his suggestions they were usuallygood- as opposed to just expensive, as is the case in many restaurants. our food and drinks both came out much more quickly than we expected, and much quicker than i've seen at similarly priced restaurants.

drinks: 9/10 - i had a tom collins that was pretty impressively mixed, and my girlfriend's mojito and dessert drink were both good. the only hitch was with the mojito, the alcohol seemed to be concentrated on the bottom, as if it hadn't been mixed as well as it could have been.

decor: ???/10 - the decor is going to be hit or miss for people. some peope might find it awkward or pretentious, others might like it. the red lighting was a little annoying at first, but overall i liked the "industrial" feel, and it made the atmosphere much more relaxed than in a place with more traditional decor. it's best to see for yourself whether you like it or not, because you'l get wildly divergent opinions otherwise.

overall: 9/10 or 10/10, easily worth the price for the food and the promptness and friendliness of the staff, didn't mind the decor, and would definitely go again.

wow, where do i start. 1st impressions is that they're shooting for the cool trendy upscale look. the place leaks when it rains. the decor is a wreck inside. the bathrooms look as if your in a 2nd rate bar. they spend more effort making the food lookgoodthen actually havinggoodfood. i could used a saw to get through my steak and after dinner, barely made it to the bathroom which was a floor below us. will never be going back, way over priced!!

special evening out. we were met graciously at the door and seated immediately. very pleasant atmopshere. we were attended to expeditiously. drink order placed and delivered in a timely manner. our intial order was placed and also delivered quickly, but not to quickly. the timing of all our dishes made for a wonderful experience. the steaks were cooked to perfection. my ny strip steak with a crust of wild mushrooms and topping of truffle butter was nothing short of amazing. the tamales were extraordinary and just melted in your mouth. the fried quail with fresh rosemary was also a wonderful and delectable treat. the side dish of butternut squash polenta was a creamy, rich joy which i would strongly recommend. the 6 oz. filet was verygoodwith the coffee crust and homemade worcestershire. (having a selection of crust and sauces for your steak is a great feature of their menu.) the prices were acceptable for the high quality of food and service. (we have very recently been to a fine steak house in far north okc that had half the quality of food and service for the same money as red primesteak.) the decor is edgy and contemporary. the only thing i would change is the low red lighting makes it difficult to read the menu. be sure to bring your cell phone. we will highly recommend red primesteak to anyone for a special evening.

red prime was great. it was our anniversary. we ordered the "long bone" bone-in ribeye for two, cooked medium with family style sides (squash and green beans), fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and finally an order of pumpkin bread pudding with icecream.

the wait staff was amazing. they greeted us with a cheerful pleasant tone of voice. we received immediate seating and there was literally zero waiting for our server and waiter to arrive at our table. the waiter was absolutely the best waiter i've had the pleasure of having serve us dinner. he was extremely polite, he knew the menu items very well and explained everything in simple terms. he wasn't trying to rush us at all. drink refills were right on time. dinner service timing was perfect. he even noticed a stray sesame seed on a clean plate and removed it immediately before i noticed it--great!

the dinner itself was tender, delicious and juicy. the steak was cooked maybe a hair too rare but i'm not picky and i didn't send it back. it was still great! the side dishes were verygoodas well. the bread pudding was some of the best bread pudding i've ever had. it was nesled in a caramel sauce and accented with pumpkin seeds. it's an absolute must-have dessert for sweet lovers out there.

thank you red prime for making our anniversary so special. the cherry on top is when we left, the door greeters both said "happy anniversary" to us!

we will be going back here as soon as we can save up some cash.

horrible service!. service was really slow! waited 45 minutes for an ok steak. waited almost as long for dessert. the restaurant was not busy. would have been alright with the industrial and cold ambience if the food would have been incredible. chosegoodreviews for food over ambiance for my 40th birthday and was disappointed.

had dinner there for first time. upon entering was struck by the industrial decor which we like especially the wine rack behind the bar. however, we where greeted by a host that wreaked of cologne. we were seated promptly, which was a bit of a surprise since it was saturday night. our server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. we were pleased with the wine list and proceeded to order. all was prettygooduntil entrees came out. a ribeye was ordered, but a sirloin was served. only a few bites were taken and when the server asked to clear the table we asked that we only be charged for the sirloin....$12 less. she asked the manager, who came to the table and told us we were wrong. when we told him that we were quite knowledgeable about cuts of meet he stormed off. we didnt want the meal to be comped just to be charged for what was served. that ultimately took place- however upon leaving we tried to post a review on red's fb page and it was immediately removed. we certainly will not return to an establishment which clearly places more emphasis on the decor than qualified, gracious staff.
