awesome. over the last two and a half years red prime steakhouse has steadily established itself as one of bricktown's finest dining establishments. rated by msn.com as a top ten steak house in the country, red prime provides the perfect environment for the casual or fine dining experience. featuring items such as the bone in new york strip, dry aged for 40 days to perfection, it can literally be cut with a butter knife. covered in brandy mushroom cream sauce with a touch of truffle butter it will truly electrify your taste buds. side items such as mandolin sliced slivered asparagus covered with melted asiago cheese compliment this delicious meal immensely. so next time you are in the bricktown area and are looking for a great meal or perhaps just pleasant atmosphere to have a cocktail, red prime is the place to be.

swanky panky red. i must say that i have had the best steaks in okc here. flavorfully aged and cooked correctly rare as a good cut of meat should be, my wife adores dinner here. she is a carnivore and this spot hits the spot. most of the side dishes are suitable accompaniments, but they tend be high in fat (as most steak houses are doing these days - would you like butter with your butter?). the deserts are decent... but do you really have room? the environs are very distinctly hip and hot. the one bad experience i had happened in the bathroom. someone having too much fun with "their meat." i made a quick exit for the door. this issue likely had nothing to do with the restaurant. a nice place for out of town guests and it is very un-oklahoma... swanky and... in certain locations.... panky.

very disappointed. i have to agree with the last post; our valentine's experience was horrible. waiter talked us into the special (14 ounce delmonico steak, crab legs) - even said it was "so big we could split it". what a joke! our steak was terrible - a lot of grissle, not tender, and they literally gave us one crab leg, cut in half! the side dishes (which you have to order ala carte) were okay, but when we got our bill i almost fainted. the special was $80!!!!! our total bill was over $160 for 2 sides, dessert, 2 cocktails and the special. rip off! if you want a great steak and flawless service, try the ranch steakhouse or mickey mantles.

fun place. we went here for my husband's birthday, and got the prix fixe dinner. this really seems like the best deal for the money. it was $35, and came with an appetizer, entree, and dessert.

appetizer: i got the fried green tomatoes. they were excellent, and came with some fresh mozzarella as well. my husband got the tamales. these were very good too.

entree: i can only speak for my dish here because i did not taste his. i had the filet, and it was very good, but was a tad undercooked for what i had ordered. i personally think the filet i had at cheever's was better. i know that doesn't make much sense since the same people own both restaurants, but whatever.

dessert: i had strawberry shortcake, which was very, very good. the strawberries were fried in a really delicious batter. my husband had some kind of chocolate cake with ice cream. i love chocolate, but both of us thought the strawberry shortcake was the best.

wine: they have an extensive wine menu that seems to start at $8-9 per glass. they also have half bottles and bottles.

the atmosphere in the restaurant is very dark. we enjoyed it just because it was something different. it wasn't really fancy looking, and seemed pretty simplistic. however, it wasn't stark cold white like some of the places that have been opening lately.

overall i would probably return if someone else wanted to try it, but i wouldn't frequent it. it's good, and the prix fixe menu is a good value. i'm not sure i would return for the regular menu though. i don't think the food was worth more than what we paid, and if we had ordered off the regular menu it probably would have been more like $50 per person.

savory dishes & "private" dining. the dining experience here was very personal and private. despite the dining room being full the tables were spaced apart in such a way that allowed you to have a conversation without feeling like everyone around you was listening in. the wagyu kobe skirt steak was excellent and the sides are an excellent complement to the main course. sides are served family style and are large enough for two people to share.

oversaturation. this will be short. the steak from the prix fix menu was good, the two glasses of wine helped me deal with all the d@mn red light in the place.

good food and everything, but it won't be my suggestion to go there.

a nice change. walking in to red prime, i was expecting another typical oklahoma steak house. i was far off!
nice little bar that had a fun crowd for happy hour. interior was very different. nice to see a place like this in town. it's about time someone went above and beyond on design.
i have sat in one of the half circle booths and at a regular 4 top. both were nice, but i will say the service was a little off when we were in the booth. this was probably due to the server not really being able to see how we were from afar. but it was cozy and romantic!
food has been great all around and they have a wonderful wine list. we will be back!

fine dining virgin alert. prior to this visit to red prime, the "fanciest" establishments i'd been to were chain steakhouses. i'm willing to bet that speaks for at least half of us using urbanspoon. red prime is a great place to start your fine dining experience adventure. the hostess, waitstaff, and somolier all treated us with respect, dignity and as if we were well-seasoned fine diners. (whoever those people are!) we were treated well by everyone. the only food item i did not care for was the rolls - they were well-prepared, but not quite fresh. i think they try to make up for that with high-falootin butter. that didn't fool me, though.... our fried green tomato appetizer is still fresh in my memory, almost six months later. light, flaky breading, fresh, juicy tomato flesh, and oh my the thick slices of creamy mozzella sandwiched between each tomato - topped with the most decadent, sweet balsalmic vinegar and olive oil.... that cost about $14.00 but as an income tax return treat it was well worth it to me. main course: him - steak, medium rare, of course; me - scallops. truth be told, toby keith's still wins, hands down - portion and flavor wise both. i chose scallops knowing that i was taking a chance - that they'd either be 25 bucks of mediocre or 25 bucks of heaven. thankfully, they were carmelized bliss on the outside and lusty, decadence on the inside. dessert - cheesecake - thick, rich, diet and mind-blowing guilt. and that is how i imagined fine dining - for the average blue collar joe should be.

i travel all over the country, and i have to say that my dining experience at red prime ranks up there with the very best. i really enjoyed all of the food. the tamale is incredable, the green sauce on top sets the flavor off, the dry aged ribeye was to doe for ,so juicy and tender, i had it with the guajillo chili crust. and for dessert you must try the red velvet cupcakes. if you want the best steak you will ever eat, then hurry to red prime steak. you will be glad you did.

poor to worse. the appetizers were very cold and tasteless in particular. even the tamale had a stale, bland flavor. the lettuce wedge salad had a sour taste which i associate with a lack of freshness. service was merely adequate and appeared to be rushed.
we ordered from the "prix fixe" menu. i sampled the "prime" sirloin, the filet, and the pork. i am forced to conclude that the use of the word "prime" in regard to the first was in reference to your name because the quality of the steak was somewhere far below choice grade even though properly cooked to medium rare and was, of course, served cold to the touch and without any detectable seasoning. the filet was more tender but tasteless and the pork was, for want of a better word, stringy. the best thing served was the mashed potato which, surprisingly, was at least lukewarm and had some flavor due to the roasted garlic.
this performance was sub-standard to a "sizzlin' sirloin" and not worthy of a ten dollar price much less the total bill of around $1,200.00.

red prime steak continues to thrive in downtown oklahoma city offering a high-end experience worthy of attention for a special night out. we’ve updated our review, originally published in october of 2007, with a new perspective from sarah who recently visited for the first time.
