fine dining virgin alert. prior to this visit to red prime, the "fanciest" establishments i'd been to were chain steakhouses. i'm willing to bet that speaks for at least half of us using urbanspoon. red prime is a great place to start your fine dining experience adventure. the hostess, waitstaff, and somolier all treated us with respect, dignity and as if we were well-seasoned fine diners. (whoever those people are!) we were treated well by everyone. the only food item i did not care for was the rolls - they were well-prepared, but not quite fresh. i think they try to make up for that with high-falootin butter. that didn't fool me, though.... our fried green tomato appetizer is still fresh in my memory, almost six months later. light, flaky breading, fresh, juicy tomato flesh, and oh my the thick slices of creamy mozzella sandwiched between each tomato - topped with the most decadent, sweet balsalmic vinegar and olive oil.... that cost about $14.00 but as an income tax return treat it was well worth it to me. main course: him - steak, medium rare, of course; me - scallops. truth be told, toby keith's still wins, hands down - portion and flavor wise both. i chose scallops knowing that i was taking a chance - that they'd either be 25 bucks of mediocre or 25 bucks of heaven. thankfully, they were carmelized bliss on the outside and lusty, decadence on the inside. dessert - cheesecake - thick, rich, diet and mind-blowing guilt. and that is how i imagined fine dining - for the average blue collar joe should be.
