i think i must have driven pastrediguana a million times on the way to the salt lake city airport (via north temple). its red-yellow dive front seemed to overflow with white caucasian business suits at lunch hour. i never would have walked in if it weren't for houston davidson (lover of music and all things spanish, mexican and portuguese) who adamantly lovedrediguana. chips and salsa. complimentary and addicting! side of fried plantain, $1.75. the plantains were amazing - sugary sweet, cinnamony, dense, flavorful. wow. what's up with the whipped cream and cherry on top?! poblano plate, sour cream chicken enchilada, taco a la iguana, beef tostada, guacamole, $12.45. yes, it's unadventurous, but...but, with any new restaurant (mexican or not), it is wise to always have a safety dish (as insurance...) and this was it. the guacamole was the best guac i've ever had. the enchilada sauce was tasty and reminded me of chinese sweet 'n sour sauce. the tostada was major comfort food. mole po

the popular originalrediguana and therediguana ii located a couple of blocks away share recipes and quality of the menu items. both are very popular but valet parking and tables are often more available at the larger second location which has a few streetside tables for warmer weather. both locations are single story. there's a lot of choices on the menu. the mole' dishes are not available at most competitors and are excellent. other menu items are universally good and you often have a choice of heat in the dishes. liquor is available. there is a party room adjacent to the iguana ii location for private parties and corporate events. lunch time and dinner time can see some short waits and lunch groups of 8 or so are common. prices are modest. we go here for both lunch and dinner.

love the mole here, the coloradito is my favorite. plan ahead or bring good company to wait in line with as it's always busy at meal time. rediguana 2 is not far and they have the same menu as far as i can tell.

we went to therediguana at the suggestion of the airbnb host and also the numerous reviews online. the wait was long but well worth it. this is not your regular texmex. we both got molé sauce on our enchiladas and a side of rice and beans. enchilada verdes and enchilada amarillas. the flavors were out of this world. very rich and complex. we suggest this restaurant as a must if you happen to come to salt lake city

i can't think of another mexican restaurant that is hyped as much asrediguana. but i have to be honest, i've never had anything here that really wow'd me. i've had several mole dishes, tacos, etc. sure, it's good. but nothing special.

this valley is filled with mediocre mexican food restaurants, and i see this and just another one.

mole verde is amazing. i have been eating atrediguana for years. i have also been challenging myself to find a comparable or better mole... not just in utah. to this point i have not.

if you are new torediguana and their mole sauces, get the sampler and have fun trying the different types (green, yellow, red, brown...).

you may think that the mole sauce will be too much when they bring out your food souped in it. however, the flavors are not overpowering and work with the enchiladas ordered (regardless of carne asada, chicken, etc.).

mole holds up well the next day if you have leftovers.

therediguana has other great meals that don't contain mole, but i stick to the mole verde mostly.

the only weak point is the salsa. i give it a 7/10 because it is good but not great. i feel like it could use fresher ingredients.

i've been during lunch and during dinner, and for obvious crowd-loathing reasons i'd pick lunch. table for two, we got right in and the food was better than it was at night (staff is in less of a rush and food is fast and fresh). the chile con queso is to die for, the heat level on everything is just right, and oh that virgin strawberry margarita. happiness =rediguana.

visiting salt lake city & saw therediguana was highly rated. it's pretty amazing. the food is spectacular, and the service is upbeat and attentive.
i'm in slc for a conference and visitedrediguana on a wednesday; there was a 30-min wait! of course the actual wait was shorter, that's a good sign for a restaurant (don't go to an empty restaurant). since i was alone, i was seated in a little alcove between the main dining areas. it'd be great for a couple, but a little odd for me. also, i didn't get to experience much of the restaurant's ambiance.
my server was tony, and if you visit, ask for him. i could not have been happier with the service. he was polite and attentive, yet patient with my questions about the menu and their signature moles.
i ended up ordering the enchiladas amarillas. they're pork carnitas enchiladas covered in the mole amarillo, which is sweet and spicy due to both habaneros, raisins and bananas. it's complex and balanced with the sweetness of the fruits countering the spiciness of the chiles. you won't be disappointed if you give it a try.
i only wish i had more time in slc to try more of the dishes.

a must-visit if you're in salt lake city. if you're a fan of mexican food, you simply must stop byrediguana...it is one of the finest establishments of its kind. some of the best service i have ever encountered, and the food itself is top-notch! expect a line out the door if you visit in the evening or on weekends.

smooth. i have not been here in years!. as a vegetarian i am used to having a limited assortment of extraordinary dishes on a menu. i love that the vegetarian dishes have all been clearly marked (making mine, the kitchen and the servers life easier). today i brought my parents who have never been here and are very much carnivorous. we were immediately greeted when we walked in and seated without a wait. our server who was taking care of us was adam. he was knowledgeable of the specials and drink availability. more importantly he made us feel welcome and comfortable. our meal was paced perfectly, receiving appetizers first and with enough time before the entrees. literally everything on our table was prepared perfectly. on the table we had the hongos al ajillo-
mushrooms sautéed with garlic, butter, white wine and crushedredchile
encurtidos-pickled jalapenos filled with shrimp and queso fresco, dipped in egg batter, fried and topped with salsa espanola, served with guacamole
enchilada poblanos, therediguana and fish tacos.
i've ran several very successful restaurants for years and with how happy me and my family (who want to go back tomorrow) were after we left i must give a cheers to the staff here. keep smiling :) you're doing it right.

never been disappointed. about two or three years ago, my family and i decided to check out therediguana. we had heard numerous good stories about it from relatives, so we had high hopes. when we arrived at the restaurant, my family was slightly dismayed by the appearance of it. but nevertheless, we joined the long queue in the cold with high expectations. the restaurant was slightly cramped, but the food definitely made up for it. my brother and i couldn't decide what to order, so we followed in my father's footsteps and ordered the pistachio mole, the special that day. the mole was amazing and undeniably perfection, despite the strange green color of it. before going to therediguana, i hated mole. i thought it was disgusting and wondered how people could eat it. but therediguana opened up my eyes, or my taste palette, and i am now a lover of all things mole. i've been back a few times and i ordered different types of mole, and i have never been disappointed. i definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. do not be dismayed by the appearance or the lines; the food is definitely worth it.
