red hot & blue

red hot & blue is a memphis style bbq joint in laurel, maryland. my grandfather loves this place and says it has consistently good food. for starters we ordered the house nachos - a choice of chili, pulled chicken or pulled pork topped with a crazy amount of jack & cheddar cheeses, green onions, tomatoes and jalapeños. there wasn't a single spot that was not covered in cheese, plus the flour tortilla chips were sturdy and held up nice & crispy under the weigh of the cheese.  while my grandparents, brother charles and mom looked over the menu, the restaurant played some pretty cool jazz over the speaker system. we choose to put three of the toppings on the side instead of adding them to the nachos cheesy mix. that way each of us could take a little or a lot on each bite.  the weekday lunch special was the best buy at $6.99 that includes a variety of lunch size sandwiches, salad and soup entrees. however, since charles and i both wanted to try the pulled pork sandwich and ribs, we ordere

great food and service. plain and simple.

i've had better, i've had worse. this place honestly is stuck right in the mundane middle of the road.
ambiance is a typical chain look, kinda like a southern themed chili's. 
i'll give credit to the service staff. i noticed the bus boys getting to a table almost immediately after the patrons left. the hostess was friendly without being obnoxious. my waiter was pleasant and never let my tea get down past halfway. so props to the staff, well run/managed. 
the menu initially looks good having a wide variety of bbq favorites. the quality of the food however is back to the middle of the road. 
i had the brisket and without the sauce would've been too dry to enjoy. the sauce was basically cider vinegar and pepper that was a bit thin.
not impressed and not disgusted, it's just very chainy.

stopped in on a whim when traveling toward baltimore. sat at the bar for lunch and had a half rack of st. louis ribs. the ribs were ok with limited smoke flavor but a nice sweet sauce. they were a little tough and could have used a little more cooking time. french fries were not fresh cut and cole slaw was crunchy but nothing special.

the menu they have is different than the menu pictured here in the app. for example, they don't have the chipotle bleu cheese burger. they will make a variation of it though!

food is okay. nothing special. affordable. kids didn't like food on kids menu but ate up what adults ordered. desserts are best feature. not a fan of coloring on the walls with crayons

average. i have been a couple of times and never really could tell what they are striving for with their food. the ribs were not tender and the mashed potatoes were average at best. i think the goal of the restaurant was to get me excited about memphis bbq, but i am not planning any trips to memphis after eating here.

not reccomended. born in memphis, tn, raised in nc... i like to think i know something about bbq. i wish i could critique the chopped carolina pork but there wasn't enough on the sandwich to judge. the chili was made of tomatoes and onions... so little meat i don't think it was worth $4. the cole slaw has zero flavor... absolutely zero. the potato salad wasn't too bad though. won't be coming back, which stinks because there aren't too many bbq places around.

memphis style bbq?????. i wonder if they have ever been to memphis? ok food good service.

good food change of pace. this past sunday the family visited red hot & blue after a multi-year hiatus. there was no real reason we stopped going. it just happened. today we stopped back. the inside layout still has the rock band pig decor. it's pleasant and enjoyable but tired.

we were seated quickly and served by a great guy that knew his job. he took the time to re-orient us to their menu. specifically, it was nice to know they consider themselves a memphis style of bbq.

we ordered a brisket potato, brunswick stew, pulled pork sandwich and chicken fried steak. the stew was tops! it had pulled beef, chicken and pork in a tomato base. it was great. my sandwich was filled with tender pulled pork. i liked the coleslaw (memphis style). the potato was well done and balanced to have extra toppings with each bite. the chicken fried steak was chewy. we did not finish it. the potato salad was not hot or cold and didn't have much flavor.

it was a really nice visit with tasty food. they could cut back on the portions and lower the price. it was a lot of food, too much. i'll give a pass on the bad fried steak. that happens more often than not. i know not to order that unless i have heard first hand it is good.

we ate here while in town for a wedding. the food was so good! i had the pulled chicken platter and it was delicious. we all enjoyed the food and would definitely eat here again!

i was mostly interested in their burgers and they carry a few burgers on their menu. we ordered the “all-in” burger with pulled pork, onion rings, and cheese and their hoochie coochie cajun burger with cajun spices and their hottest bbq sauce on. we ordered both burgers medium rare. the wait was ten minutes or so and the burgers looked pretty good when they came out. the burgers were cooked perfectly medium rare and they were both very juicy and had a meaty taste that was quite wonderful. the all-in burger had nicely cooked pulled pork that was smoky and very well made. the cajun burger was not hot at all. after dressing it with more hot sauce it got better, but it was never very hot at any time. the fries were store bought regular frozen fries and nothing special, but still cr

all of the prices are wrong. everything is at least 3 dollars more than they say.

decent bbq for the price, not great but very good. order to go is a really convenient option. go there once a month.

this one need a neutral button.. not texas bbq, not real memphis bbq, outdated on the inside, and the wait staff are too young to stop putting posts on their facebook and refill your drink.
