so disappointed. i have had some wonderful meals at this beautiful restaurant, but last night has left a sour taste! my partner and i were excited to be back at one of my favourite restaurants and we were seated next to the wonderful open fires and given water. dave ordered the special pizza and i the parpadelle with slow cooked lamb. the crust on the pizza was very thin, almost paper thin and topping was sparse $27. my parpadelle pasta was gorgeous, but the meat was in cubes! like off cuts from a fatty lamb roast and hardly the delicious, slow cooked lamb that the menu promised for $34. our lovely warm fire was left to dwindle to ashes and our water did not get replenished. oh epicurean! what has happened??

perfectly flavoured pizza, light bases and flavoursome topping but not too heavy. the ravioli was beautiful!! so much flavour and generously sized pieces. awesome atmosphere, will be back.

very big and busy place with a casual feel. lots of large tables, couches, bar tables to choose from. loved the rustic look and feel of the place.
the service staff were run off their feet as it was so busy. the service was lovely and friendly though.
the recommended pinot noir was lovely and the food was okay. the pasta and gnocchi were over cooked but the dessert was lovely. bread was amazing.
will be back to try the pizzas and some antipasto next time.

warm welcome!. truly i must enthusiastically declare what a generous offering and design statement this sensational new establishment has delivered to red hill and the mornington peninsula. design statement being getting so many elements right, spot on in fact from total wrap around warm welcome of smiling faces, easy music. indulgent fireside seating and delicious food, efficiently delivered.
well done to all involved, it is rare for a new venture to be so on the money so soon ...just can't wait to return!

very disappointed. the two of us arrived just after 5pm, and although the kitchen was due to open at 530, they said we were welcome to have a drink while we wait. while enjoying our drinks, 530pm came along without any attention from the staff. at 550pm, we finally got the attention of a staff member who appeared to be the manager, and we asked if we could see the dinner menus. he went to get them, taking my empty glass without asking if i would like another drink. we eventually got his attention to place our order. the pizza and polenta chips came out quickly, probably because there were only three other occupied tables in the massive, cavernous space. the pizza was ok (although it had a hole in it!), but nowhere near the quality of doc mornington - who we ate with the previous night - and the polenta chips were not crisp, and very gelatinous - not particularly appetising. when our plates were cleared, he did not ask us how we enjoyed our meals, and when we asked where to pay, he simply pointed in the direction of the till. all in all i would call his service surly and inattentive. the only plus side was his offering of complimentary sweets from the day's cafe service as we left, which really did not balance a truly sorry experience.

unfortunately no. so we are 4 months in now since the opening and this was our 6th visit but the first time for dinner. what a shame! the poor service on the previous visits has been partially rectified with attentive staff but i still dont understand why ere are so many staff walking around trying to lokk busy. its gives an air of confusion. not the right atmosphere for dinner. and while they we very attentive its a pity they still didnt get the drinks or meal order right. how hard can it be? to the food.....in the past we have had the pizzas which are sensational. last night we went for the a la carte dinner menu. not sure what the gnocchi was like as they bought out ravioli instead. the pork filling was good but the shells needed more time in the pot. the rack of lamb was a shocker. ordered it medium well done and when it arrived it was still bleeding. well.....what meat there was. it was the fattiest lamb ever.. and because it was undercooked the large fatty slabs were inedible. the accompanying beans with bacon were incredibly fatty and rich as well. if you like fatty food you will love it. given we are locals we have been hoping that this would work a treat. its a wonderful renovation and the wine list is superb but the service stills needs a lot of work and the food weve had apart from the great pizzas certainly dont match up to the many options in the area. overall.....if you can handle ordinary service call in for a pizza. if you want something more...definitely go to the many other places in the area. for us...we will wait another few months and try again.....we so want this place to work!!!!

walked out. visited today for lunch ( friday lunchtime - about 1pm - wasn't overly busy). we were really looking forward to trying the pizzas, even after some of the reviews we'd read on here.

we walked in and asked for a table. there was a few spare tables. we were pointed in the direction of a spare table ( not taken to it - it was pointed out).

we sat down, waited about 10 minutes. no one approached us, gave us a menu, offered us a drink or even acknowledged us. we were sitting right in front of the bar, staff were walking past constantly - not like we were tucked up in the back corner.

we waited another 5 minutes, after still no service, we walked out.

this is the first time i've ever had such bad service that i've felt compelled to write a bad review on urbanspoon.

on a positive note, really liked the bakery section. purchased some bread which we just ate with dinner. was fantastic. some of the other foccacias, lunch items, etc looked really good.

went to epicurean unsure what to expect. huge warehouse seating area and very well setup. we had the bread sharing starter with dips (very tasty - olives could have been better!). then we had sea food pasta dish and a special sausage pizza. the pasta dish had some delicious seafood in and was good (perhaps just a bit too garlicky but still v good!). the pizza base was fantastic...the toppings i was unsure of. yet again not taking anything from the dishes as done very well. wine tasting was slightly disappointing as we were just served the wine with no explanations or descriptions. overall it was good and i recommend a visit.

steve. we've been to the shed at the epicurean four times now. on every occasion we have had great food, an excellent wine selection with reasonable prices considering the quality of the establishment.
it has a relaxed great atmosphere with 3 open fires in the cold weather. despite the relaxed atmosphere the staff are attentive, friendly and efficient. guisseppe attended to us today and he was witty as well as attentive.
would recommend this place to anyone.

disappointed. friendly staff, prices were overrated as the dish had minimal food on it. pizzas there are a joke as topping was scarce, can't believe i paid for a wood fire pizza with next to nothing toppings.
don't waste your money there as you are slugged with a 15% surcharge on holidays and they corner you with tips on their atm machine. was very disappointed as i use to go their often and the menu was reasonably priced. who ever now runs the restaurant is cheeky and unreasonable in pricing meals with minimal good on the plate. i've been to better places in the area that have more food on the plate at their prices. do no recommend unless you don't care about eating and paying for air.

no welcome at all from staff when entering the venue. line up of people and an empty restaurant and staff scuttling around providing no assistance. was shown finally to last table available, apparently all tables booked. service was cold and didn't take the time to check order, so our drinks order was wrong. was told to order a side with a main as was told the meals are "sparse". couldn't finish the side so waste of money and food. won't return.

the grilled gippsland porterhouse was of particular note - simple, delicious and very well executed. the beef was cooked to a tender and juicy pink and was exceedingly flavoursome and "melt in the mouth" while the accompanying truffle mash was luxurious.
