thisrestaurantis located in jersey city. we were a group of four and went there last month. the ambiance of the place was nice.

the chicken biryani gives you the authentic indian taste. the naans were properly cooked and the curries tasted well.

totally recommended if you're looking for tasty indian food in jersey city.

try it!. rasoi is my favorite indianrestaurantwith chinese influences. the dishes i recommend are the mango lasso (a mango yogurt drink), britain (indian style fried rice really strongly spruced but delicious and fatty), tikki masala if you're new, and saga (spinach cream curry). remember to order everything mild or your mouth will be on fire!

purpose of visit: this review is from month of september, when i was to meet my old friend

location: thisrestaurantis located on indian street at jfk blvd.

restaurant details: the ambience is okay, the lights were pretty dim and not bright, they can improve on it. the staff was friendly and cooperative though.

order details :
1) navratan korma- we decided to go for navratan korma, it was tasty enough according to the american standard. not spicy or too sweet either, the cooks atrestaurantshould try making fresh tomato puree instead of getting a canned one which makes the curry on the sweet side. rest of the ingredients were in right quantity.

2) naan: the naan bread was soft too and was good.

conclusion- overall a good place and one of the famous places on the indian street. they still can do better in terms of curry making as i mentioned before.

food -4/5

4/5 !!

always with the aim of assessing arestaurantagainst what else is out there in its own space, we deem rasoï a standout because it did to indian cuisine what its saint-henri cohort, cho, did to asian. both made their respective ethnicities' food fun, contemporary and creative. and while we thought a couple dishes fell flat, we still enjoyed the overall proposition, from the attractive décor to the tasty food.

rasoi is a fusion indianrestaurantin st-henri. it isn’t particularly fancy or overpriced but because most indian restaurants in montreal are of the hole-in-the-wall variety, rasoi definitely stands out. we had been to rasoi in 2014 and had enjoyed a dinner that was as expected. we weren’t in a rush to return but recently we were invited to try some new dishes, and we were intrigued to see what had changed.

my firstrestaurantthat i visited in the united states. my cousin and his wife took me here on a sunday. the food is good. the spread is huge.. i loved their mango lassi.. the disadvantage is that you don't have parking and have to depend on street parking or park a little away from the restaurant.

their saag paneer was delicious and biriyani was tasty. lovely appetisers like paneer tikka.

will visit again.

we walked in when therestaurantwas full but were assured that it would only be about 15 minutes for a table so we gave our number to hold our place and went to have a drink while we waited. we returned after 20 minutes without a call back to see that they had seated a new walk in just before we arrived yet they had never called us to advise that a table was available.
not sure if i would go back as the experience was very frustrating. we could have just gone somewhere else straight away had we known.

disappointed tonight with a favorite restaurant. i love rasoi, one of my favorite restaurants in the hood. i've introduced many a friend to the delicious food and warm and friendly ambiance. tonight was unfortunate, as i introduced yet another friend to this charmingrestaurantwe were affronted by unfriendly, inexperienced and definitely unprofessional staff. a most unpleasant experience and it will give me pause as to choose rasoi over the many other restaurants on notre dame again. bummer, cause i really like this place but such rudeness to a paying customer is unacceptable and kinda put a damper on the whole evening. .

great st-henri restaurant!. we like to support our st-henri restaurants and therefore yesterday we decided to give rasoi a try. we booked our reservation through opentable. we arrived on-time and were seated right away. however, it did take a bit of time before we had a waiter take our drink/ dinner order (different waitress/ waiter). it is a tapas stylerestaurantand therefore the portions are small, but reasonable for the price. we ordered the baji d'onion, salade papaya vert, poulet au beurre, aloo ghobi and pain naan x 2. everything was delicious but we found that the papaya salad (excluding the shrimp) lacked flavour. the decor is beautifully set up and colourful. will definitely continue to support this indianrestaurantand look forward to their expansion to brunch, lunch and lounge.

for these prices and wait times, i could've flown to india for real food.. i recently visited rasoi on a friday night as part of a group of 10 diners, all in attendance for a small birthday celebration. from the moment i sat down to the moment i left therestaurantnearly four hours later, my experience at rasoi was rendered tortuous by the intensely terrible service and sub-par cuisine.

when you arrive at rasoi, you are immediately impressed with the interior decor. the main dining area is very clean and fresh, and manages to be modern while still imbuing a rustic indian charm. retrospectively, i can now see that this is a massive case of emperor’s new clothes, no question.

our reservation was for made for 7:30pm. my boyfriend and i were the first to arrive, precisely at 7:25. the hostess and waiting staff seemed to be rather confused by our early arrival and insisted that our reservation was for 8pm instead, despite ‘7:30’ being clearly written next to our reservation name. but no matter; we were seated on the back patio, which, to the credit of the restaurant, is a very pleasant space. less pleasant, however, were the group of three staff members attempting to string holiday lights haphazardly around the canopy of the patio with an obviously ill-chosen adhesive. as a result, the lights promptly came smashing to the ground, the glass bulbs exploding everywhere. this process went on for about 20 minutes, with staff members cursing throughout. we found this to be profoundly unprofessional, not to mention potentially dangerous for us and other restaurant-goers. we actually debated leaving at this point, but mistakenly opted to stay.

once the remainder of the group arrived, our orders for appetizers and main dishes were taken. noteworthy sidebar: rasoi does not offer paper menus, so if you plan on sitting anywhere but the main dining room, take a photo with your phone of the chalkboard menu on your way through. doing this will spare you from looking like an idiot when you have to go back inside and stare over diners’ heads while you make your decisions.

our table experienced excessive wait times for both our appetizers and main courses, on the scale of hours. to pacify us in the interim, we were offered a plate of four “papadams”, or more aptly titled “intensely salted pringles”. when it deigned to appear, the food itself was pretty ordinary, and rather akin to low-end indian buffet fare; the only real difference being that you get the privilege of paying $40 for it at rasoi. i should mention that i’m making this comparison as a torontonian, so perhaps some bizarre, upside-down price-quality reciprocal exists in montreal that i’m not aware of. the meals were relatively small-portioned and, as a result, completely consumed within minutes of reaching the table. overall, it was a fairly anticlimactic payoff for our near 3 hour stomach-numbing wait.

at this point in the evening our group was pretty much entirely frustrated, despite us being completely outwardly empathetic towards our server; we all understand thatrestaurantkitchens can get back-logged, or that the establishment is understaffed on a given evening. however, the tipping point came when our waitress informed us that it was impossible for her to split the bills among individuals or even couples — there was going to be one combined bill for all of the food and all of the alcohol. we would be responsible for referring back to the menu and divvying up the bill if we so chose. i think that we can all agree that this is pretty absurd, especially when one considers the infinite customization capabilities of modernrestaurantpos systems. it is ludicrous that a guest who drank only water with their meal is now responsible for paying equal share for another guest who ordered 5 alcoholic beverages. this really was the sour cherry on top of our already terrible evening of exorbitant delay times and lacklustre food.

after much arguing back and forth, our waitress re-took our orders and issued individual receipts. i suppose she has chosen to adopt a rather loose definition of ‘impossible’. this process took another 30-45 minutes. at the end of the night, our group failed to receive either a consolatory discount on our meals or even an acknowledgement (much less apology) from the manager for the dismal service. rasoi was a massive disappointment and one that i most certainly will not be returning to.

service among the worst i've ever experienced. anywhere.. prices are out of touch with reality, service was awful, after 45 minutes if waiting i had to go corner the server at the bar, drinks were 15 minutes later, and the food still hasn't showed up. worstrestaurantexperience yet after living in montreal for the last year and dining out regularly.

overpriced and boring. why pay 10$ for a meal you can get it at 25$ and more at rasoi!?
from the comments here, i was expecting a good service... things started oddly with the server dropping the pitcher of water on the table and leaving, even tho therestaurantwas empty at that time. then the waiting started. after an hour and a half, we finally ordered the food...
asking the question what was «chicken jafeezi» (i don’t remember the name correctly), we had the answer: «it’s chicken, and onions, and it’s very good». don’t imagine a lovely indian girl having a hard time speaking english, the waitress was caucasian...
so we stick with the classics goat vindaloo, butter chicken and some veggie curry. the vindaloo was kind of okay (but worth 30$ with a little soup) and half the plate was bones. we were a group of 4 and were all disappointed with the butter chicken which was not bad but again not worth 25$. this meal is the easy way into indian food, make it good... and then i thought that our bowl of chick peas at 16$ or something was basically stealing... i mean, 16$ for a 1$ can of chick peas with a spoon of curry powder, really?
overall a disappointing experience because of the poor service, overpriced meals and very boring food... i will stick to my favorite places in jean-talon and parc-ex next time
