northern california july 23, 2014 leave a comment karen and i were up north for a wedding.  before leavingsanmateo we were meeting up with my cousin and my goddaughter for lunch.  we had originally planned to go to the ramen festival insanfrancisco but it was a little further out and we figured it might be crowded so we decided on a ramen dojo insanmateo.  good reviews on yelp so here we went.  my cousins got there before us and informed us that they were in line.  as we drove by looking for parking we gazed upon a rather substantial line that wrapped around the corner of the block.  thought that was a pretty good sign.  the little shop only accommodates 24 (i think?) so it may take a while to get in there.  the good thing is that while you are waiting in line and since they already take your names down they will come out and take your pre-order so that when you go in you are ready to go in 5 minutes.  that is a great idea and a good way to manage a long line with small space.  o

we were so lucky to be stayin insanmateo because we were able to check out so many restaurants especially this ramen dojo. we got here when they opened on a saturday morning and the line was halfway down the block!! i told joe if we didn’t get into the restaurant within half an hour of opening time, that we should look at other options. the guy in front of us in line told us that as long as we were before the tree, we would definitely get seated with the first wave of customers. we got the last table! woo! thank you asian guy who eats here often! pork flavor ramen w extra quail eggs we thought about getting different ramen bowls to make ours look different but joe didn’t like the idea of coordinating our restaurant visit around the blog (when it should be the other way around). we both ordered the garlic pork flavored soup base which comes with 2 pieces of roasted pork, fried whole garlic, kikurage mushroom, fresh green chives, 1 quail

my latest ramen encounter was with ramen dojo, which opened last year in the originalsanmateo location of santa ramen . in fact, they're the same owners. but ramen dojo isn't just a second location of santa ramen, it's a distinctive ramen shop specializing in spicy ramen, also known as "stamina" ramen supposedly eaten by sumo wrestlers training in a dojo.

even though i'd just stuffed myself with ramen a few days earlier, that wasn't going to keep me from eating some more. this time, i was outside of the city, at ramen dojo, insanmateo. this place is

ramen dojo recently opened insanmateo at legendary santa ramen’s original location, no doubt hoping to capture some of its good karma. in fact it’s owned by the same people. they focus on spicy ramen, specifically sutamina ramen (aka stamina ramen) that
