pyro's is on fire!. first of all, full disclosure: i love pizza. i could seriously eat pizza every single day and never get bored with it. c'mon, it's got all the major food groups except dessert. it's fabulous. also, i 'll eat just about any pizza, even bad school cafeteria style pizza. it's pretty hard to muck it up for me. it can be done -there at least two major chain pizzas you couldn't pay me to eat- but it's a rare experience.
i more than like pyro's pizza. i truly, madly, deeply love it. i'm a thin crust kind of guy anyway, and their flatbread style crust is simply wonderful. i also love the "subway" style of walking thelineand picking out exactly what i want on it, and folks there's an abundance of different toppings, at least 40 of them. you get loads of veggies, meats, cheeses, and sauces from which to choose. the best part: you get as many as you like for one low price. it's 8 bucks whether you get 2 toppings or 20.
one tip: get the 11 inch pie. a 7 inch is offered, but it's barely a couple of bucks less. in this instance, size definitely matters, with the larger the better value.
on my most recent visit, i had them spread half the pizza with spicy marinara sauce and the other half with pesto and added gorgonzola instead of the pedestrian mozzarella. i love the fact that there so many different cheeses from which to choose. the staff makes it exactly to order, and they're all terrific. they build your pie in front of you, and if you want more items or the pie constructed in a different way, they're happy to do it for it. the service at the union location is exceptional. and to seal the deal, there's a nice selection of wine and beer available if you wish to imbibe.
granted, pyro's is new to midtown. clearly, they're off to a good start and firing on all cylinders. i hope they continue to offer yummy pizza at a fair price with friendly service. i wouldn't go anywhere else for a pie. sorry memphis pizza cafe. time to step your game.
