proof

talk about a place with ruder servers and unresponsive management. based on the the type of service we had, the tip was logically less. we were glad we were out of there but found out later (credit card bill) that the waiter gave himself an extra tip which he did not deserve. when i returned back to the restaurant to complain, management had a very cold attitude and had no remorse on behalf of their staff. they were going to look into the matter but no response.foodwas average too. not worth the price and service.

excellentfoodand wine paring with the chef's choice.

a few nights ago i had plans with a friend who i haven't seen in awhile and we were searching for the perfect place to go where we could catch up, celebrate the new year, and have deliciousfoodand wine. after some back and forth we settled on proof which we both happen to love, and we were looking forward to going back since neither of us had been in awhile. i love the fact that proof is just a few steps from the bustling verizon center, but once you step inside you would never know. it has a wonderful atmosphere with dim lights, a great bar area that serves wines on tap, and comfortable booths towards the back that create a quiet and warm setting. the service is always great, and the waiters tend to be incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and the menu which i always appreciate.

all in all, the service was spectacular, the wine was exquisite, and thefoodwas good. next time, we may just come for drinks and appetizers though. the meal itself with wine was pricey -- in the end we paid over $200 including tip. if i am going to spend that kind of money, i can think of a few other places in the city i'd rather go. that said, i'm glad we went to experience proof and certainly enjoyed the experience. if they were to offer a new vegan entree at some point, we would definitely return.

simply incredible. the food, wine, atmosphere and service were impeccable! made for a fantastic evening!!!
the cheese plates and the charcuterie were unbelievably decadent, especially paired with a lovely white wine. i suggest forgoing the main course plates and ordering a few first course plates and some meats and cheeses to share with the table - it's a great way to keep the palate fresh and experience all that proof has to offer.
thefoodwas all so fresh and mostly local, which is a nice bonus. can't wait to go back!

wonderful place. absolutely perfect experience. thefoodis very yummy, very inventive and in quite big portions (after 4 tapas size appetizers for two you can feel absolutely full). the service is very professional and friendly, the ambiance is modern, cozy and relaxing, the wine list is long and sophisticated but a bit expensive (though you always can find some good alternatives with their beer list or cocktails). this was our fourth visit and we always left very satisfied. highly recommend tofoodand wine lovers.

a pleasant surprise. on my recent visit to dc i had originally made reservations with legal seafood but while waiting for my table i stumbled upon proof & decided to eat there after reviewing the creative menu and the maitre'd was able to immediately seat us. the decor was very nice; comfortable, nice size & acoustics were great for conversating & not yelling. the waitress was very accommodating and very attentive throughout the entire meal. the wine list was very comprehensive and intimidating so i asked for the sommelier & gave him some basic criteria and an under $70 price range, he recommended an excellent wine for $38, kudos to the sommelier! when thefoodarrived it was excellent. presentation, amount & temperature were dead on.
being from houston, fearing eating out at overpriced/under proportioned lacklustered meals which i've had in past trips this was a pleasant surprise and would recommend it to anyone visiting dc.

think wine, not cocktails. mistake to order the cocktails here. proof is supposed to be known for its wine, so better luck next time. am interested in trying it again, to see how thefoodpans out.
