best place in dc. from the time i first visited proof, i knew it would be the beginning of a great love affair. the food, the wine, and the service are nothing short of spectacular. don't get fooled by imitators or cheesy reviews of any other spot!i would certainly recommend that anyone really trying to experience what proof has to offer should order the chef's selection with wine pairing- it will, without a doubt- be one of the best dining decisions you could ever make.

truly enjoyable dining experience. i eat out in dc a lot (i work here for a few months at a time) and proof is the best dining experience i have had so far. i was feeling summery and ordered the gruner veltliner- lovely. for my entree i got the pekin duck breast- perfect. i figured i was already 2 for 2 and ordered the chocolate hazelnut cake with espresso gelato- yum! to sum up, great spot to people watch, great wine list, great food, and great service. i'll be back!

we got the two pastas. gnocchi beef was dry and gnocchi pasta was soggy. pesto genovesi was bland, lacking any flavor. scallops were minimal and improperly cleaned; one still had a mussel attached.

everything was overpriced. even water is expensive.

visited here on saturday night for a nightcap. wonderful selection of wine and very knowledgeable and interested servers. helped us select some delicious reds to try. next time i’ll visit for dinner!

the restaurant looks trendy and modern with an exciting feel. the menu is refreshing with some unusual twists such as an odd salad with bitter greens. the toffee pudding was a cake. the entree was great mix of veggies and protein. the service started fast and then died.

talk about a place with ruder servers and unresponsive management. based on the the type of service we had, the tip was logically less. we were glad we were out of there but found out later (credit card bill) that the waiter gave himself an extra tip which he did not deserve. when i returned back to the restaurant to complain, management had a very cold attitude and had no remorse on behalf of their staff. they were going to look into the matter but no response. food was average too. not worth the price and service.

i loved this restaurant. everything we had for dinner was on point. they have an extensive wine and cheese selection. even if you do get cheese, also get the goat cheese appetizer...it is amazing. also they have great lunch deals during the week; for $15 you can get a meal and wine if you sit in the bar area.

food was excellent--had some cheese and charcuterie and split a small plate (spicy meatballs). prices on drinks were absurd--the wine was way too expensive and i didn't feel like the red wine was served at the correct temperature--it seemed too warm.

undesirable experience all around. went to have cocktails and sat outside. was told could not sit outside without ordering food. cocktails and wines were good but on the expensive side. eventually ordered desserts that were good.

waiter was extremely snippy and overall seemed very unhappy to be there.

the most disturbing event of the evening is one of my friends and husband went to the bathroom and rather large full nude picture of a women was in the mens bathroom as well as lude and provocative pictures of women above the urinals. this was very deeming to us as patrons to have derogatory/ pornographic pictures of women in a public restaurant. very disturbing that this upscale resturant would portray women in such a way. what kind of image are they striving for.

as a woman will not be back!!!

ever since meeting scott 3 years ago, i have spent every birthday evening at a different and highly recommended dc restaurant. my first birthday together was spent at zaytinya , last year we celebrated at rose’s luxury , and this year was the highly anticipated and long awaited proof in penn quarter, dc. it seems the boy really ups the ante every year, and i left another birthday dinner on cloud 9. having been more than impressed with their sister restaurants, ( estadio , doi moi , and 2 birds 1 stone ) the bar was set high for proof. the excitement mounted exponentially when they were recently nominated for the rammys as  best wine program  and best upscale casual restaurant. we couldn’t agree more.

vegetarians who also are wine lovers will fall in with love proof , the first of a trio of first-class sister restaurants that also include estadio and doi moi (read my write-ups of the those two here and here ).   proof is a romantic wine bar located in dc's penn quarter/chinatown neighborhood.  the dinner menu changes seasonally, but as noted on the washington, dc restaurants page of this website, it always offers a number of hearty meat-free appetizers, salads, and cheese plates, in addition to several tasty side dishes.  fortunately for me, my favorite vegetarian entree -- the napoleon of crispy tofu, wild mushrooms, and spring vegetables -- is a year-round staple . napoleon of crispy tofu, wild mushrooms, and spring vegetables, including baby bok choy, snow peas, green beans, and served with a sweet chili garlic sauce

a few nights ago i had plans with a friend who i haven't seen in awhile and we were searching for the perfect place to go where we could catch up, celebrate the new year, and have delicious food and wine. after some back and forth we settled on proof which we both happen to love, and we were looking forward to going back since neither of us had been in awhile. i love the fact that proof is just a few steps from the bustling verizon center, but once you step inside you would never know. it has a wonderful atmosphere with dim lights, a great bar area that serves wines on tap, and comfortable booths towards the back that create a quiet and warm setting. the service is always great, and the waiters tend to be incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and the menu which i always appreciate.

my favorite restaurant in the district. this was the go to place for my wife for special occasion dinners. the sweetbreads are amazing and the duck is always a pleaser.
