pod

pod is an overall eating experience. from the contemporary decor to the welcoming staff, the restaurant is really a treat. as for the food, the prices are a bit high, but thefoodis good. i just wish there were more vegetarian and vegan options. their sushi rolls are made to order and delicious (the shrimp tempura and tnt rolls very tasty. i'll have to come by to try their cocktails at happy hour!

love it!. a little expensive but overall great experience, hung out here with a few friends after work and the drinks were fun and good. thefoodwas good, duck and lamb are on the top of my list

my colleagues oleg sokolsky and insup lee took me to a stunning restaurant located on the u penn campus. pod is one of the creations of philadelphia restaurant mogul steven stark. it specialty is sushi and the decor is jetsons modern. i apologize for the horrible quality of this photo (no flash on an iphone) but this is our sushi assortment. as you can hopefully tell, it is served on a multi-tiered carrier from a tea service, which was a very elegant touch. the sushi was of very high quality. my first piece, salmon, set the mood for the evening with its buttery softness. the sushi went quickly. we also had several other items. the roast pork was competent but not exciting. the mushroom fried rice was very light and refreshing. the desert, chocolate chocolate chocolate, was an excellent trio of chocolate items. such a rich dessert coupled with excellent asianfoodis a rare treat. 0 comments: post a comment

pod is a gussied up american take on asianfoodrun by a well known philadelphia restauranteur, stephen starr. it has a 60’s retro-chic interior with a smattering of dim bluish and purple light cast over white furniture. it is a glissile place where, by the looks of it, there appears to be no friction: a bottle of beer could just slide forever down the long bar. to me the place feels like the womb of an enormous whale deep under the arctic waters. it is a cold ambiance. cozy is not the word that i would use for it, but some folks like it (including my son).

hmm.... pod was saved in this review by their fantastic shrimp tempura sushi and mordern decor. there were a number of issues.
the service was very slow. yes, it was a saturday night, but we would even strategically tell the waittress "we will only take a minute to decide..." and 10 minutes later she'd return.
the skirt steak was overpriced for the quantity served. i don't have a problem handing out big bucks for food, but the amount of steak served to me for $32 was skimpy. i had no been planning on ordering dessert but was forced to do so by the fact that my beef was shrimpy.
all-in-all, i'd suggest that pod reevaluate itself. yes, it has potential, but let's be realistic here. i'm all for a chill, modern atmosphere, but the cool furniture does not merit the inflation in their prices. at the same time, i believe that other reviews, such asfoodcritic, are overly harsh and should learn to stick tofoodand leave gaga alone (obviously doesn't understand her either). i would probably give them another try.

horrible. total waste of money. ambiance is acceptable. we were in a private pod. other than the lights which change into different colors the place is a garbage. thefoodtasted like lunch special from a local chinese restaurant. sushi was ok. but overall if you want to blow some money you won at the casino go for it. overall experience 3 out of 10

goodfoodnot so good service. i have gone to pod several times over the years. i think it's a fun place to go. i don't mind the decor at all, the chairs are a little uncomfortable but not worth complaining about. thefoodhas always been amazing when i've eaten there. the portions are on the small side. i have noticed my last few times there that the service has really gone down the tubes. the hosts and servers are generally curt and don't seem to want to be bothered with doing anything. i don't mind that they aren't constantly at the table but last time i was there i literally waited 25 minutes to order desert and drinks and the server seemed almost offended that he wasn't getting us out the door. i have never had a service issue at any other starr restaurant but i definitely think pod's staff is slipping.

you pay for decor.foodis so-so. spending this kind of money? go to miramoto or umai umai. do not recommend this place.

good food, but pricey. very goodfoodi ordered (for delivery) the wasabi crusted filet mignon, seafood fried rice, and hirame sushi. thefoodarrived in about 30 minutes, with the medium rare steak and rice still hot. goodfoodbut not great. to elaborate more, yes thefoodwas better than your average restaurant, but with portions the served (minus the rice) and the prices you would think they would be closer to the great (not excellent) side. would i eat their again, yes.

like it, somewhat.... i think pod is over-priced, there i said it. read my other reviews, i only comment about price when thefoodjust isn't quite worth it. thefoodat pod is good, some of it is great and the atmosphere is hip (although sitting in the pod with the changing colors makes yourfoodlook inedible at times) but it is a bit too loud and a bit average in thefooddepartment to be worth the price. i still like it and have gone more than once.

pod, philadelphia pa. pod has greatfoodbut is extremely overpriced. it is a place to try once for its futuristic atmosphere. it is a fun ride but it is not worth a dent in my wallet to make myself a regular. it's a great place for a first date.

atmosphere:

i felt like i was warped to mars, its quite cool inside. it's almost like george jetson designed this place. they use lots of red colors and they have elevated egg shaped rooms. the lounge music they play during dinner went well with the muted old movies they were showing in black and white on the flat screens.

food:

like i previously stated, it was great sushi but i've found the same quality at a more reasonable price in old city.

awesome place. decor and atmosphere are a cross between ny, la, and miami chic. love that they play lounge music in the background. foodis excellent. i've had the wasabi crusted filet mignon a couple of times and does not disappoint. sushi is very good as well. one of my favs about the place is the dessert. i've had their collection of sorbets...heavenly. all of them are asian fruit inspired...coconut ginger, mango, etc.
