pod

pod is an overall eating experience. from the contemporarydecorto the welcoming staff, the restaurant is really a treat. as for the food, the prices are a bit high, but the food is good. i just wish there were more vegetarian and vegan options. their sushi rolls are made to order and delicious (the shrimp tempura and tnt rolls very tasty. i'll have to come by to try their cocktails at happy hour!

my colleagues oleg sokolsky and insup lee took me to a stunning restaurant located on the u penn campus. pod is one of the creations of philadelphia restaurant mogul steven stark. it specialty is sushi and thedecoris jetsons modern. i apologize for the horrible quality of this photo (no flash on an iphone) but this is our sushi assortment. as you can hopefully tell, it is served on a multi-tiered carrier from a tea service, which was a very elegant touch. the sushi was of very high quality. my first piece, salmon, set the mood for the evening with its buttery softness. the sushi went quickly. we also had several other items. the roast pork was competent but not exciting. the mushroom fried rice was very light and refreshing. the desert, chocolate chocolate chocolate, was an excellent trio of chocolate items. such a rich dessert coupled with excellent asian food is a rare treat. 0 comments: post a comment

good food not so good service. i have gone to pod several times over the years. i think it's a fun place to go. i don't mind thedecorat all, the chairs are a little uncomfortable but not worth complaining about. the food has always been amazing when i've eaten there. the portions are on the small side. i have noticed my last few times there that the service has really gone down the tubes. the hosts and servers are generally curt and don't seem to want to be bothered with doing anything. i don't mind that they aren't constantly at the table but last time i was there i literally waited 25 minutes to order desert and drinks and the server seemed almost offended that he wasn't getting us out the door. i have never had a service issue at any other starr restaurant but i definitely think pod's staff is slipping.

awesome place.decorand atmosphere are a cross between ny, la, and miami chic. love that they play lounge music in the background. food is excellent. i've had the wasabi crusted filet mignon a couple of times and does not disappoint. sushi is very good as well. one of my favs about the place is the dessert. i've had their collection of sorbets...heavenly. all of them are asian fruit inspired...coconut ginger, mango, etc.
