still great pizza!. my first taste of uno's was when i was stationed at great lakes navy base back in the 80s and we took the train in for the weekend.

had never eaten deep dish pizza before, but i was sold after the first bite!

it's a bit dated after all these years, (as other reviews have stated) but still a danggooddeep dish pie!

love the bar and beer selection too.

i always heard about deep dish pizza and when i arrived to chicago this was on my list!

the pizza is great, the service great too,
the only let down is the waiting time for a take away single pizza 1 hour and was just before dinner time, i will recommend order on line and pick up, the place is always packed sogoodatmosphere too.

something strange is drinks are ordered and paid separately from the food, that's make it complex as queues are long for both.

besides that is a great place and planning come back every time i'm back in chicago.

we had heard a lot about the deep dish pizza of chicago and this was definitely on our list when we landed there...the place was jam-packed on a saturday afternoon and took us bout 20 minutes to get a table. we ordered a large veggie pizza, bbq chicken individual pizza and a garlic bread. the garlic bread turned out to be reallygoodand gave us quite an appetizing start..the downside would be the wait time for the pizza which is close to 45 minutes -1 hour. thegoodpart is that the staff warns you about it at the very start and keeps informing you your wait time. now comes the food...pizza was just like it's name deep dish so the outer crust and layer was quite thick compared to the inner bread. had base of tangy yet sweet tomato puree which dint go down well with our taste buds and up with toppings. couldn't really take to the taste of it instantly. may be if you walk down here often it might grow in to you. butgoodservice. nice location at the prime of chicago and who dsnt love pizza...😄

googled the best pizza in chicago and opted for uno as it was literally just around the block. winged it for a saturday night and after a short wait got a seat at the bar. this suited us fine as we were well attended to by bar staff and could comfortably talk sitting side by side. buffalo wings to start with smothered in the tasty and tangy sauce and went well with the sam adams.
veggie deep dish was the pizza of choice. crust wasgoodand the topping was very tasty but the both thought the tomato paste to be a little lacking in salt.goodpizza but agreement was pizzano's was better.

long wait, goodfood. wait was over two hours, they said they can't handle more than two or three large tables. wow, i never thought five people was considered a large table! food was good. employees had great/positive attitudes. unfortunately the wait was too long to give it a thumbs up.

great original pizza. okay, here's a bit of pizza information. pizza in chicago is changing, deep dish is no longer the king, there are many new influences that are being introduced and the pizza culture is changing.

however the one that started the deep dish, will forever hold a special place, and yes its true with some of the other reviews the service is slow, but let me say its due to the fact that uno's still uses same 1943 recipe for their crust unlike many other deep dish places. so service on a pie will be usually 45-60mins depending on how busy the place is.

now for the pizza, we ordered the:

numero uno
a 'works' pizza with sausage, pepperoni, onions, peppers(held), mushrooms, chunky tomato sauce. topped with mozzarella & romano.

simple, amazing, beautiful crust, not soggy (as some reported), heavy with the toppings, great tomato sauce.

it was agoodpie, no complaints. can't ask for anything better.

good pizza. the resteraunt makes a danggoodpizza. it has the most tangy, perfect sauce that accompanies and offsets the undesirable aftertaste of meat. the crust was a little on the heavy side, but then again it's deep dish pizza. the actual resteraunt is dark and crowded, but it doesn't really subtract from the experiance. so overall, it was a great dining experiance.

awful service!!.goodluck ordering food from here. they don't deliver so they gave us the name of the delivery company they use. everything i tried to order they said was not on the menu....even though i was looking at their menu on their website.

when i called the restaurant to complain they said that was their other location. none of the locations that i called had what was on their website. it was a total disaster and it's run by complete morons!!

pizzeria uno =goodgrub!. it's time to man up. sure it's in the 80's back home, and it's in the 30's out here … and the wind makes it feel like your face is getting a rub down from a pineapple … but the streets are alive and the pizza is freaking unreal! four words … totally, worth, it … boyeeeeee. i know it's been pretty well documented, but i love myself some pizza … especially that of the chicago persuasion. from zachary's to pizano's, we've dipped our grub-toe into some of the finest. but this time around, it was time to try one of the originals. so say hello to pizzeria uno … the mouth-watering and belly-rumbling chicago pizzeria that started it all. like a journey to the west wall, i have found the holy land … and my followers … it is delicious. like all great grub-spots, the line is out the door as we arrive … but have no fear, because even though the wait is about an hour, it takes the bubbling pizza pie about that long to be whipped up from scratch, and they let you put in your order with your name … or vice versa. hello i'm medium stuffed spinach and mushroom, table for … whatever you'd give me. seriously, i'd eat it sitting cross-legged on the floor if it meant i got to shave five minutes off sinking my teeth into a slice of their … thick, sweet-and-savory, buttery-crusted, bursting with loads of toppings, cheese, and thick-chunked tomatoes … pizza pie. while we waited for our bounty, we took down a couple of pints of 312 and honkers ale from goose island, a chicago brewery, which primes the belly for the insanity about to ensue. and that's exactly what it was … absolute insanity. let's just say, uno's slice can throw down with any of the greats that thegoodgrub has encountered. with a slightly sweeter sauce and crust, and toppings that are a little more packed-in and closer to the surface, each bite was bursting with flavor and bringing a giant smile to our faces. match that up with the old-school feel of the place, and our waitress marty (aka happy gilmore's grandma … oh, now your backs going to hurt, because you just pulled landscaping duty) … and it was one of the top grub-sessions yet. so make your pilgrimage to the corner of ohio and wabash, weave your way through the line of hungry patrons, and get ready to dive headfirst … directly into the deep dish.

decent pizza, great atmosphere. my second pizza experience in chicago, pizzaria uno was brought to my attention as the place where deep dish originated.

i enjoyed my deep dish pie and of course i had to get the house special: numero uno. lots of toppings on this one. if you like veggies, you'll taste veggies - made the pie extra crunchy. the crust itself was a drier, crumblier pie, broke up kind of "dusty" in my mouth.

set up like a small pub in the midst of a very busy area of chicago, there was a brief wait before i got seated at the bar. however, the one thing that really stood out at this bar was the atmosphere. the bartender, while obviously busy with a packed house, took a few moments to chat me up about my visit. while watching the hockey game, i cheered along with the locals for their team and amazing patrons ended up buying me a few rounds of beer.

this was pretty much everything i imagined agoodchicago pub would be and i walked out that evening feeling prettygoodand really appreciating the people of the city.

mediocre deep dish and dismal service. recently while attending the annual "taste of chicago" i was afforded the opportunity to try out the original pizzera uno; a chain which we have in florida that has never quite risen to the bar of it's competitors in terms of deep dish pizza.

regrettably my experience here in chicago closely paralleled those i have had in both orlando and daytona beach... the service was less than exemplary and the quality of the pizza was sub-par to it's local competition. it's not to say the food here is bad, it's just not asgoodas some of its competition. the crust on the pizza was soggy, the italian sausage was nearly tasteless and there was way too much grease. again, not bad in the grand scheme of things but notgoodeither. the staff seemed rushed and a tad unfriendly but the decor was pleasant and clean. all in all a mediocre dining experience.

serious chicago deep dish pizza!. we really enjoyed this place. we wanted a traditional chicago deep dish experience, and we got it! the pizzas aregoodsize, a small is more than enough for two people, and have generous, fresh ingredients. they take your order for the pizza when you give them your name for a table, because it takes about an hour to make the pizza, which was great, because we didn't have to wait forever for our pizza once we got our table. expect a bit of a wait to get a table, they're pretty busy, especially on weekend nights. the staff is very friendly and courteous though, and they get you in to a table as quickly as they can. also, there's a bar where you can get drinks while you wait, which makes the wait go faster.
