one of the best pizza places in downtown detroit. the deep dish pizza is a local favourite. we had the papalis gourmet which came with feta cheese,spinach and grilled chicken. the wings with habanero sauce and celery and ranch are excellent starters. the deep dish takes about 45-30 mins to cook. but it's definitely worth the wait. value for money as a small deep dish is enough for two people.

on a recent visit to detroit, i was told to try pizza papalis for their chicago style deep dish pizzas. we were 4 people and had the gourmet chicken deep dish pizza...it takes 45 mins to make so it's better to get the order in quickly. while we waited for the pizza we had mozzarella cheese sticks and feta spinach garlic bread with a pitcher of some chilled beer. the mozzarella sticks were really crispy and cheesy hitting just the right spot with the chilled beer. then came the pizza and it was just delicious, with the mariana sauce made so well and filled with chicken..yumm.. service was really friendly and helpful.

i would definitely recommend the cheese deep
dish which takes about 40-45 minutes to get to your table, and it’s totally worth the wait. if your here for the first time, you would not want to miss this!

i have pretty tried every pizza place in the local are and hands down pizza papalis is the absolute best pizza in michigan or anyplace i have been. the wait staff is very knowledgeable and can tell you what size you need if you want leftovers or just enough for there. at least our waitress was very thorough with our order.

mind you the pizza takes a while to cook 30 to 40 minutes but i tell you it is more than worth waiting. i would have waited an hour the pizza was the more incredible tasting pizza ever. not to saucy and the vegetables are fresh tasting...i wish i had a picture of it. if you are ever in the metro detroit area....please make sure you try the pizza.

the place is located in a great location. appetizer bread was not fresh. too many employees hanging out playing on there i phone. pizza came out ok.

pizza papalis has a menu thats quite exotic and was hoping to have some great pizza when we arrived. super crowded for a saturday evening and we had deep dish pizza and a chicken pizza. the deep dish was apparently their specialty, but didnt taste so good, with just cheese and ketchup. the chicken pizza was also nothing noteworthy or worth trying again. the place was so loud so may be it is quite popular but its definitely not in my list of favorites. the service was good though

good pizza and good service. their thin crust is sooo good. the restaurant is huge and pretty nice. our waiter was super nice and friendly. i would definitely come back.

that first slice by all mine a large deep dish bacon cheeseburger rules, even found a 5 bucks off coupon. be a very long time, maybe 25 years since our last visit, they now have 7 locations.

while it might be the closest thing to a chicago style pizza in michigan, it's not close enough to warrant the price or 35 minute wait. the crust was just bland city, and the texture was completely wrong. i've eaten at all of the big chicago namesakes (gino's east, pizzeria uno, lou malnatti's, and giordano's, which is my favorite). this style is more like giordano's pizza than the others, but again, the crust is wrong, the toppings are of a lower quality, and the cheese is too moist. just nothing to write home about. and, the breadsticks were a flat-out "wtf?!?" disappointment. dry (had clearly been sitting around a while reaffirmed by the fact they came 2 minutes after we ordered them), near flavorless, and served with sysco/gfs cheese whiz?!? i don't even... ick. our service was ok, at least. and the atmosphere is pleasant enough. doubt i'll be back anytime soon, though.

solid. deep dish meat lovers went down just fine. would eat again.

pizza papalis has the best deep dish pizza in the world!!!  i love their seafood deep dish pizza.  i hope this company add a location in indianapolis.  this restaurant is one of the places i miss since moving from detroit.

city staple. although the deep dish pizza are extremely good, recently i have found that the greek town location is not as clean as it once was years ago. very dusty and the bathrooms were horrible.

you don't come this close to chicago and not get a chicago deep dish! the search for the best ended at greektown! pizza papalis taverna puts out the best deep dish i have had in the states! the greek salad was spectacular as well. i will crave this pizza... yummo

bad experience! the pizza was great but took over an hour to arrive at our table. as we were eating, my son discovered a plastic drink lid in the bottom of his water glass. it was pretty disgusting. the waitress apologized and talked to the manager. the manager did not feel it justified taking time to talk to us about it, and instructed his waitress to offer another glass of water.
so i won't be back! what an arrogant organization! they obviously have too many customers to be concerned with satisfaction.

were told 20 min & took 1&1/2 hours. would have been never if we didn't complain & manager said he had no control. didn't do anything for us. wouldn't recommend it.
