pretty good local pizza; owner often works the register. lately, zas w loads oftoppings(we usually get pep, chz, & pineapple or supreme) have suffered raw dough, except smalls. must be a result of ppl complaining about the wait...just start on a pitcher of lazy magnolia's southern pecan and wait.

pizza shack used to be awesome, but they have gone way down. the last few times i have been i have gotten a greasy soggy pizza. their crust is too thin to support the amount oftoppingsand cheese they add.

the last time i decided to get wings and the philly cheese steak sandwich. they weren't busy but it still took 45 minutes to get my order. the wings were soggy, it was like they cooked them first and left them sitting in the sauce for 30 minutes. the philly cheese steak is the only good thing i've gotten from there in the past few months. needless to say that was my last visit.

open late?. urban spoon says that one of the features of pizza shack is late nights. then under hours late is not checked. this place is not open late! unless you consider closing at 10ish as late night?

love the pepperoni but...... first off, i love urban spoon i feel like the reviews are very helpful in deciding on restaurants for the first time or if you are visiting a new area and want honest opinions.
not being a native jacksonian and loving pizza, this was one of the first pizza places i tried. the first time i tried the pizza we ordered the supreme. it was loaded withtoppingsand the middle was extremely doughy. frankly i was outraged! a 30 dollar pizza that tastes like that is offensive! i heard friends that were natives rave about the plain pepperoni. i decided to give them another try, so the next time we ordered from pizza shack we ordered a pepperoni and cheese well done!. it was great! not as expensive as the speciality pies and wasn't doughy either. perfect with a beer! from now on being a pizza kinda girl, if i'm in the mood for pepperoni i order it from pizza shack. anything else i order from sal and mookies. sal and mookies has a similar price point as pizza shack and even offers specials on prices if you join their mailing list (something pizza shack doesn't offer on either count). with all that being said pizza shack's pepperoni and cheese cooked well done with cheese sticks can not be beat! otherwise go to sal and mookies !

pizza shack. pizzas can be pretty good but only if they get your order right and or actually decide to cook it. i've been to pizza shack many times pre and post state/fort st. move since college. my friends always want to go so i oblige them even though about 80% of the time they screw up my pizza. what's funny is they act like its my fault (argue with me about what order i placed, look at me crazy, or argue and make uptoppingson a pizza even when i have the menu i front of me) and then take another 40 minutes to redo my pizza. also the wait time when they don't mess it up and are not busy is ridiculous. grease/uncooked middle can also be pretty bad sometimes. could be good pizza if i could just get it.

not as good as all the hype. they pile on so much cheese andtoppingson these pizzas, they can't even cook the dough properly. last time i sent back my pizza since the dough wan't cooked and i asked them to put less cheese on it when they redid it. there was still so much cheese on it when it came back, i couldn't even tell if the dough was cooked or not. it was just a big sloppy mess. gross.

every time i get a personal size pizza from here it never gets done in the middle. i get home and have to put it in the oven. too manytoppingscan be a bad thing. does this happen to others or just me?

anyone out there ever had real pizza?. after eating at pizza shack on several occasions and reading the reviews on this and other websites, i am beginning to wonder if i am eating at the same place as the other reviewers. if you are impressed by the the sheer size and weight of a pizza, then this is your place. if you are more concerned about things like the quality of ingredients, taste and appearance of the food, then this is not your place. i have never understood the mindset that a pizza piled high with ingredients is a good pizza. when i pick up a slice of pizza, i would like to be able to take a bit without all of thetoppingssliding off onto the plate or my lap. pizza should be a combination of well made crust topped with just the right amount ingredients and cheese. now i know there will be those of you that point to chicago style pizza and it's abundance of toppings, but this is no chicago style pizza. that is a different beast altogether. the owners would probably save some money on ingredients and make a much more edible product if they just eased of on thetoppingsa bit. also, all thosetoppingsmake for a super soggy crust.
i also have to agree with several other reviewers that noted the increased prices of the pizzas. a year of two ago, the real attraction of pizza shack was the feeling that you were getting alot of bang for your buck. funny how success can change things. i know ingredient prices go up over time, especially in this economy, but the price increases seem out of line, but it's their business, and i guess they do what they have to to keep it profitable.
not much to say about the service. take the order, take the money, serve the pie. no brainer.
i haven't been to the new location, but the north state shop needs a little freshen up. nuff said.
a little tweaking and this place will be around for a long time.

educated opinion. the pizza shack offers a true representation of the perfect pizza. i have lived all over the us and traveled extensively throughout the world. i even managed my own pizza place. the pizza shack offers a great variety of pies representative of the pies available throughout this world without having to travel to experience the same vaieties available here. the crust is a great representation of a light fluffy "pan" crust. the sauces are awesome and thetoppingsabundent. the wait required is indicative of the time required to make "your" custom pizza pie. this is by no way, shape, or form a fast food cardboard cutter pizza factory as other "experts" compare. the people have always been friendly to myself and family. i return 30 miles twice a month to enjoy the pizza shack. i suggest the same for true lovers of pizza - the others, stay at home and go elsewhere.
