it's rare that you find an eatery with a truly unique take on a food you enjoy. if you are a bbq fan and looking for a 'rockin' experience, you need to trypigfloyd's. on the surface it looks like a standard counter service bbq joint but when you take a look at the menu and then taste the fare, you will be hooked. only wish it was closer to this philly guy.

here's a few of my favorites - the big floyd sandwich - melt in your mouth brisket, pulled pork, sausage, choice of hot or sweet sauce served with citrus peanut slaw and french fries or how about smoked brisket, chimichurri, pickled carrots, green over an easy egg on a baguette. then there is pork belly or pork barbacoa banh mi, piri-piri pork or you can have incredible tacos with pork belly, chicken or pork al pastor, shrimp and sausage and more. and yes, there are the usual platters of brisket, ribs, chicken, etc. and all are perfection.

you can't miss here if you are a bbq lover.

a little out of the way but well worth the ride.

this latin, asian, and southern american bbq fusion joint in orlando’s mills 50 district has a nice list of bites, including matambre smoked brisket sandwiches topped with egg, indian butter chicken tacos and the latin plantain and fried yuca sides.

but it’s all about the oakwood smoked st. louis barbecue ribs here. succulent. juicy. sweet, yet refined. delicious. when you can get it, it’s really good. the problem is that it is can sell out fast, so call ahead and make sure they’ve got some ready for you.

founded by thomas “tito” ward esteves, the founder of the treehouse truck, one of the first so called gourmet food trucks in orlando, pigfloyd’s urban barbakoa is a an ode to his family’s deep love for food. barbakoa is a form of cooking meat that originated in the caribbean with the taino people, from which the term “barbecue” derives.

saturday night was a mills 50 night, dinner at pig floyd’s urban barbakoa followed by drinks at redlight redlight.pigfloyd’s urban barbakoa describes itself as a rustic counter-serve offering globally flavored bbq dishes and that’s exactly what it is. this bbq joint is unlike any other in orlando, serving up sandwiches, tacos, meat platters and salads with caribbean, latin and asian twists.

the menu ricky even went the extra mile and made a few suggestions on what to try.  the ribs as well as the butter chicken taco.  looking at the menu i was certainly impressed with the selection.  i love gourmet tacos and i love unique sides when visiting bbq joints.  these sides had a southern spin, and when i say southern, i mean the deep, deep south.  with south american and the caribbean classics like fried yuca and plantains, i knew exactly how to order when i walked in.pigfloyd’s famous st. loui

i think i've "finally" found it--the best bbq in central florida! sure, there are a few good places, but my recent visit to pigfloyd's urban barbakoa with friends left us talking about it and wanting a return visit--even later the same night!  i'd heard about pig floyd's urban barbakoa from a co-worker, and so when some friends were in town and looking for a place to eat in the orlando area, i suggested it. they were sure glad i did--and so was i. i'd like to tell you the names of what we all had, but their web site does not have a menu yet--i guess they've been too busy taking care of their customers, and they sure took good care of us. i ordered a "take two" dish, two types of meat, pulled pork and brisket. omg, both were very good with a great smoke ring. the brisket was moist and juicy and tender and the pulled pork as well. i had the house "hot" bbq sauce and it was absolutely divine.  my sides were equally excellent. the apple fennel slaw was as good as any slaw i've ever had. and the black beans and rice had an outstanding flavor, nicely seasoned. there was nothing about this dish that i'd complain about, and i ate every last bit of it. my friend billhad a sandwich and it was piled high with meat. he said it was excellent in every regard and i've no reason to doubt that since he ate every last bit of it. the fries were done just right as well. tommy had a sandwich with brisket as well, and one of it's best attributes was the onion relish--it was sweet and flavorful, a real winner.  finally, bill had the pulled pork plate with plantains. it too was excellent. we all enjoyed our meal a lot, and talked about it a few times over the weekend. we all agreed, we'd go here again in a heartbeat. on the way out i spied a guy and girl who'd just been served a full rack of ribs, i imagine they were going to split them. they looked out of this world great. when we left, the place was really packed, and i can see why. i know i'll be back, and sooner rather than later. i

mills is exploding with tasty new restaurants and this self-proclaimed urban barbakoa joint is no exception to this growing group. i was a bit skeptical about the place since i’ve heard mixed reviews and am incredibly loyal to that other smokehouse across town. but after devouring a heaping plate of bbq, grilled corn and wine, i thinkpigfloyd’s could be a nice alternative for the long lines and sunday cravings on fairbanks. i love the diversity of barbecue in town, butpigfloyd’s is just a little bit different and still a hidden gem. i was a bit surprised by the price, $22 for two sides, wine and meat – but it was worth every penny. here’s what we feasted on and thoroughly enjoyed this weekend! barbakoa meat platter: oakwood smoked brisket: a little fatty, but so smoky and juicy once you cut around the fat. thrill your taste buds by dipping in their homemade gluten free hot bbq sauce. oakwood smoked pulled pork: smoky and meaty, this pulled pork was smoked and flavored to perfection. why choose just one meat when you can go for two with their combo platter? grilled corn on the cob: topped with chili, lime and cotija cheese – holy moly. i’ll never eat plain corn again, a side so tasty i’d go back just for this dish! cuban black beans & rice: a nice alternative to traditional bbq beans, but probably not something i’d order again. i’m not a huge beans and rice gal anyways, but it was a nice pairing with all that meat and corn. we’re coming back for the butter chicken tacos and ribs! hurry in before the lines grow and the secret gets out about orlando’s newest barbecue haven.pigfloyd’s is located at 1326 north mills ave., orlando, fl 32803.     posted by spork orlando   uncategorized   no responses »

mary. eating atpigfloyd's is a relaxing and enjoyable experience. the outdoor patio is very pleasant especially this time of year. the servers, from the cashier to the waiters, are all friendly and helpful. now for the food...we have had the ribs a couple of times and they were terrific. the tacos are unusual but very tasty. the big floyd sandwich is a winner! love the fries, the black beans and rice (while they aren't authentic cuban, they are quite good), but the plantains are where it's at. can't wait to try the corn on the cob at our next visit. this place just keeps getting better.

awesome!. hmm my review didn't post the first time, so hoping it doesn't repeat lol. i went topigfloyd's tonight for a friends' birthday, and i'm sold! definitely coming back! i tried the 50 mills cheesesteak which was incredible and finished the night off with the black and tan for dessert. it's a very delicious, chocolatey pudding with chunks of brownie and cookie dough. yum! even their corn on the cob was amazing! i know what you're thinking..."how can corn be amazing...there is only so much you can do with corn, why are we even talking about this?" trust me and try the corn. if you want fresh, quality bbq that's reasonably priced, go here. great place to chill with friends and get yummy food.

so yummy!!. we have been waiting forpigfloyd's to open and the day finally came! you order at the cashier then the food is prepared at brought to your table. the prices are very reasonable! service was friendly, genuine and prompt. the owner was even out and about saying hello, running food and helping out. we got a ton of food for about $35. they also seemed to have good drink choices but we skipped out on the alcohol this trip. we waited about 45 minutes for our food but i attribute that to opening day. however, our meals were so worth the wait that i beg them never to change the timing if the 45 minutes was necessary. (seriously, please, please, please do not sacrifice the quality of your food for speed and crowds like a certain local bbq place did).

we tried all 4 tacos on the menu, the whole rack of ribs, corn on the cob, and fries with fancy sauce. there was nothing on the plates that we didn't love! the ribs fell off the bones. the spicy bbq sauce was so delicious - still had sweetness too it but it wasn't overbearing. all 4 tacos were so unique and flavorful. i would get each and every one again. personal favorite with the chicken al pastor - due to the sweetness from the pineapple. my next favor was mint in the shrimp & sausage taco really added a nice element to the taco. the sides we got were also tasty but i would not say remarkable or out of the ordinary. however the fries were elevated to spectacular because of the fancy sauce! dang was that stuff good! i will definitely try some of the other sides next time like the fried yuca or fried plantains.

all in all a great place and i can't wait to go back!!!

they will have a nice variety of sauces from the traditional sweet bbq & hot bbq to the exotic dragon sauce and indian inspired tikka masala sauce.

vegetarians do not be disheartened, they will be able to make many items with tofu and will have some solid salads & meat free side dishes.

salads include one with baby kale, roasted peppers and bbq croutons, another has field greens, spiced walnuts, apples, beets, fennel & goat cheese.

they are going to have a great outdoor seating area and eventually somepigroasts!
