now with two locations, thomas ward’s “pig floyd's urban barbakoa” is frequently mentioned amongst orlando’s best spots for bbq, and channeling his hispanic background alongside 90’s pop-culture references the north mills avenue original is anything but a typical country western smoked meat setup.

debuted in 2014, years operating a food truck finding ward now brick and mortar with an extensive menu of sandwiches, sides, tacos and combo plates, it was after debating several daily specials that the #19 was ordered, the pulled pork unfortunately a little over-sauced while lean brisket is surprisingly supple with deeply penetrating seasoning and a good bark.

not about to waste stomach space on store-bought tortillas, at least not when elbow macaroni with aged white cheddar is available, fans of elotes won’t want to misscorncovered in chile-lime butter plus cotija, nor stick-a-spoon-up-straight banana pudding with chunks of fruit juxtaposing nilla wafers.

pig floyd's was a 7.5/10 in our book. it's a little hole in the wall kind of restaurant with a unique feel. you walk in, order, and take your order number to your table besides the standard sit at the table and be waited on. due to the size of the place, the line was a tad long and wrapped to the outside of the restaurant. however, someone very picky would only degrade the restaurant on that. it didn't affect our score. the vibe could use a little work to get a greater sense of what culture the restaurant is trying to display. it was a tad bland on that aspect. the food was very good with a unique flavor. we got the pulled pork withcornand fries as well as the al pastor taco and the pork belly taco. there is a relaxed outdoor area for larger groups with heaters for the cold, and the inside of course for smaller parties. overall, good food and we look forward to returning.

mills is exploding with tasty new restaurants and this self-proclaimed urban barbakoa joint is no exception to this growing group. i was a bit skeptical about the place since i’ve heard mixed reviews and am incredibly loyal to that other smokehouse across town. but after devouring a heaping plate of bbq, grilledcornand wine, i think pig floyd’s could be a nice alternative for the long lines and sunday cravings on fairbanks. i love the diversity of barbecue in town, but pig floyd’s is just a little bit different and still a hidden gem. i was a bit surprised by the price, $22 for two sides, wine and meat – but it was worth every penny. here’s what we feasted on and thoroughly enjoyed this weekend! barbakoa meat platter: oakwood smoked brisket: a little fatty, but so smoky and juicy once you cut around the fat. thrill your taste buds by dipping in their homemade gluten free hot bbq sauce. oakwood smoked pulled pork: smoky and meaty, this pulled pork was smoked and flavored to perfection. why choose just one meat when you can go for two with their combo platter? grilledcornon the cob: topped with chili, lime and cotija cheese – holy moly. i’ll never eat plaincornagain, a side so tasty i’d go back just for this dish! cuban black beans & rice: a nice alternative to traditional bbq beans, but probably not something i’d order again. i’m not a huge beans and rice gal anyways, but it was a nice pairing with all that meat and corn. we’re coming back for the butter chicken tacos and ribs! hurry in before the lines grow and the secret gets out about orlando’s newest barbecue haven. pig floyd’s is located at 1326 north mills ave., orlando, fl 32803.     posted by spork orlando   uncategorized   no responses »

dry brisket...ribs were good.. the ribs saved this place, although i probably won't rush back. first of all, the brisket was like shoe leather and so chewy, even my dog would have had a hard time.
thecornwas dusted with cheese and packed with scallions (i have an allergy to onions) wish i would have known this prior. the ribs were their saving grace. they were very good.
hopefully they can get some tips from 4rivers on the brisket.

awesome, amazing, wow!. 1st time eating here and i highly recommend it. everything was delicious. the spice rubs used are outstanding. the prices are good for the quality of the food. it's about what you would pay to eat at smokey "you know where's" but the food is so much better. the atmosphere is great and the outside dining area is really nice. the music is a nice touch too. and all of the staff are very attentive and friendly. definitely worth going!

we had the 1/2 chicken platter and the beef brisket & pulled pork platter. delicious! the plantains are outstanding....they have a sugar coating on them which was so good you can't stop eating them. the fried yuca, french fries andcornon the cob were out of this world. and the portions were perfect. you leave there feeling completely satisfied without feeling like you need a nap!

take a date...go with friends or just swing in for a bite to eat. it's a great place to enjoy some fantastic barbecue. make sure to put this restaurant on your list of must go places!

mary. eating at pig floyd's is a relaxing and enjoyable experience. the outdoor patio is very pleasant especially this time of year. the servers, from the cashier to the waiters, are all friendly and helpful. now for the food...we have had the ribs a couple of times and they were terrific. the tacos are unusual but very tasty. the big floyd sandwich is a winner! love the fries, the black beans and rice (while they aren't authentic cuban, they are quite good), but the plantains are where it's at. can't wait to try thecornon the cob at our next visit. this place just keeps getting better.

great tasting bbq. this place came to me by word of mouth and i must say that it was delicious. i had the ribs with fries andcornand at first i thought i wouldn't be able to finish my plate but before i knew all my food was gone. the ribs were so delicious that there was no need to put any sauce on them. move over to the other bbq places! everyone was nice and friendly and the owner even came to check on us. will definitely be back again and will spread the word myself!

first time. went here this past weekend. good service, a little pricey, but the quality was good. the brisket was a little fatty, cornwas awesome. the big floyd was awesome. my only suggestion would be to switch from a regular roll to texas toast. i know asking for vegan options seems a bit strange at a bbq place, but my fiance had the fried tempeh (a carnivore describing vegatarian options is a stretch) i think, and she did seem super stoked. the place just opened so they deserve some grace. good beer selection.

awesome!. hmm my review didn't post the first time, so hoping it doesn't repeat lol. i went to pig floyd's tonight for a friends' birthday, and i'm sold! definitely coming back! i tried the 50 mills cheesesteak which was incredible and finished the night off with the black and tan for dessert. it's a very delicious, chocolatey pudding with chunks of brownie and cookie dough. yum! even theircornon the cob was amazing! i know what you're thinking..."how cancornbe amazing...there is only so much you can do with corn, why are we even talking about this?" trust me and try the corn. if you want fresh, quality bbq that's reasonably priced, go here. great place to chill with friends and get yummy food.

so yummy!!. we have been waiting for pig floyd's to open and the day finally came! you order at the cashier then the food is prepared at brought to your table. the prices are very reasonable! service was friendly, genuine and prompt. the owner was even out and about saying hello, running food and helping out. we got a ton of food for about $35. they also seemed to have good drink choices but we skipped out on the alcohol this trip. we waited about 45 minutes for our food but i attribute that to opening day. however, our meals were so worth the wait that i beg them never to change the timing if the 45 minutes was necessary. (seriously, please, please, please do not sacrifice the quality of your food for speed and crowds like a certain local bbq place did).

we tried all 4 tacos on the menu, the whole rack of ribs, cornon the cob, and fries with fancy sauce. there was nothing on the plates that we didn't love! the ribs fell off the bones. the spicy bbq sauce was so delicious - still had sweetness too it but it wasn't overbearing. all 4 tacos were so unique and flavorful. i would get each and every one again. personal favorite with the chicken al pastor - due to the sweetness from the pineapple. my next favor was mint in the shrimp & sausage taco really added a nice element to the taco. the sides we got were also tasty but i would not say remarkable or out of the ordinary. however the fries were elevated to spectacular because of the fancy sauce! dang was that stuff good! i will definitely try some of the other sides next time like the fried yuca or fried plantains.

all in all a great place and i can't wait to go back!!!
