not quite sure.... this was my first visit to perks. first let me say that part of my disappointment may have been in my expectations that a restaurant which touted organic, healthy, localfoodhad very few items that fit well into my calorie budget. i expected a broader array of fresh soups and salads.
the menu does offer a tantalizing selection of breakfast and lunch items. i,too, had difficulty choosing what to order. unfortunately, i chose poorly.
i finally decided on an old standby a classic tuna melt. the sandwich comes with coleslaw and french fries. i asked for a substitute to the fries and was told that they didnt substitute but that i could "maybe get more coleslaw". i passed. the bread on the sandwich was a thickly sliced
crusty bread which was grilled perfectly.
unfortunately, the tuna inside was over powered by onion and mayonnaise. i couldn't taste the delicate tuna. my tummy protested my choice the rest of the afternoon.
my friend that was dining with me however ordered a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. the bacon was thickly sliced and cooked "crispy" as ordered. her eggs were sunny side up and perfect. i coveted her choice throughout our meal.
i do plan on returning to perks because i don't believe that i truly experienced the best they had to offer which was due to my choice of menu items.
if any one from perks reads this:
1. lose the tuna melt
2. offer substitutions or just the sandwich. you have fruit on the menu, a couple of berries or bit of banana cant be that much more costly to your overhead.
