pei wei asian diner

pei wei asian diner is a familiar establishment throughout the nation.  the belle isle location is clean, quick, efficient, and with friendly staff.    as an asian, i prefer authentic dishes in asian district, but i can still appreciate american-asian food.  pei wei does this very well and i know lots of people who enjoy meals here.  

thequalityof the food for what it is is above average (compared to, say, panda express).  we ordered their new kung pao shrimp sushi roll, chicken fried rice, crab wontons, and chocolate chip cookie.  the sushi roll is essentially their mango california roll with fried kung pao shrimp and nuts on it.  there were lots of chicken in the fried rice and it was pleasantly served hot, but in my opinion, could have cooked longer with the rice since it was still relatively hard grains.  the crab wontons were served lukewarm, but was delicious!  the chocolate chip cookie was a little hard, but it was acceptable.  out of these 4 food items, from most favorite to least, it would be: kung pao shrimp sushi roll, crab wontons, chocolate chip cookie, and chicken fried rice.

i'd also like to add that we have gone to this pei wei before and had a terrible experience.  we sent in a survey and were contacted promptly by a guest representative, who more than supplemented our meal with 2 $10 gift cards. while i prefer betterqualityfood, their follow-up customer service and how efficient their system are what makes pei wei a very good company to support.

notes:  many, many people enjoy pei wei.  if you like chinese-american or american-asian dishes, pei wei is for you.  also, if you are in a rush, they get their dishes done in a jiffy!

tip:  if you've ordered from them before, save your receipt.  you can get a free cookie after completing their survey!

mediocre. as an asian, i was impressed with thequalityof the food here. having tried many authentic asian food, this place is just mediocre. nothing special.

overpriced for what it is. i understand the hipness of it, but to me the food leaves a lot to be desired. i always order the broccoli and tofu noodle bowl, and to me, they always screw up the tofu. i know that it's a delicate thing to prepare, but really, every time? i would be more willing to be a regular if i felt like the foodqualitywas reflected in the price. but to me, always a better choice than p.f. chang's.

pei wei has a diverse pan-asian menu, which is great for those with differing tastes or specific preferences (vegetarian/vegan). the atmosphere is pleasant, i've never had a bad meal here. although it is essentially a scaled-down version of pf chang's, i find pei wei's menu to be more veg-friendly as well as a generally better dining experience. i have been to pf chang's far fewer times, mostly because any experience i've had with the same dish tends to favor pei wei for bothqualityand portion-price value. highly recommended.

love it !!. there cannot be many things better than a fast smaller less formal pf changs that i can hit at lunch or dinner and get the samequalityfood without having to sit down and wait.
