tried the new location and happy to say pecan lodge is still the best in dfw. burnt ends and porkribswere incredible!

-----02 jul, 2013-----

best bbq in dfw. by the time pecan lodge opened at 11:00 a.m., the line was well over 200 people deep. my wife thought i was crazy for wanting to get there at 10:30, but it turns out we were lucky we got there when we did. we also had some friends that met us at pecan lodge and kept us company in line. the line did not move very fast, but time did seem to fly by while we conversed with our friends. my wife kept my oldest daughter occupied by giving her ice cream. yes, she gave my daughter ice cream before lunch. i know that my wife just wanted to make sure my daughter was getting her proper servings of calcium. we are both waiting for the official notification of her mother of the year award for 2013.

a little after noon, we finally arrived at the register to place our order. i was disappointed to find out that they were already out of pork ribs, which were highly praised. no worries, there were plenty of other items on the menu i wanted to try. we ordered brisket, beef ribs, “hill country” sausage, jalapeno cheddar sausage, fried okra, and west texas pinto beans. since i had been waiting in line for over an hour and a half, i couldn’t wait to dig in. the brisket was absolutely smoked to perfection, had a perfect smoke ring, and was one of the top three briskets i have ever had. the beefribswere perfectly seasoned, very juicy, and the meat was falling off the bone. i was also impressed with their two types of sausages, which they make themselves unlike most of the other bbq joints. both were flavorful, but i particularly liked the extra kick that the jalapeno cheddar sausage had. even the beans were out of this world tasty. the fried okra was good too, but paled in comparison to the beans. if you absolutely have to have bbq sauce on your meat, their sauce was pretty good but you are doing this meat a disservice by adding any sauce to it.

after eating at pecan lodge, i can honestly say that i finally found a great bbq restaurant in the dfw area. ever since i moved to the area in 2002, i have looked far and wide for good bbq and finally my search has paid off. this place was far better than any of the dfw bbq places i have tried and rivals some of the best in the hill country. i would rate pecan lodge a 9 on my 10 point scale. i thoroughly enjoyed this dining experience and believe this place lived up to the hype. my wife raved about it on the way home and our friends seemed to really enjoy it as well. i don’t know how soon i will be willing to go back and stand in line for 90 minutes, but i will do it again sometime and order extra to take home!

the best brisket, sausage andribsyou can sit down and feast on! and sit you will want either indoors or on outdoor patio after quite an interesting meandering through the line that stretches out for sometimes well over an hour with lots of very friendly fellow diners. they do sell out of items as the day goes on but, nothing like some of the other places that just close down after waiting and waiting! a true must for everyone except maybe babies cause your going to need some strong chompers to enjoy this place to its fullest!

wanted to try pecan lodge a second time on a calmer day before i gave a detailed review.

atmosphere, design, & service: 4.0/5.0
we went wednesday around 2pm, upon walking in the line was already about 45-50 people deep (the line moved fairly fast). the aesthetic of the restaurant was fairly nice, nothing special. but i wasn't concerned because i knew with bbq in texas, its never about the experience it's about the food.

food: 4.0/5.0
i ordered the "two meat plate", you can either pick between brisket, beefribs(always sold out), pork ribs, pulled pork, & hand-made sausage. since the beefribswere sold out, i chose the brisket & pork ribs. my side was mac & cheese with bacon, this totalled up to about $15 without a drink (i got a water cup). the food was good, the marbled fat off the brisket melted in my mouth, the porksribswere juicy & well seasoned without the bbq sauce, & the mac & cheese was nothing special even with the bacon sprinkled on top.

final thoughts: 4.4/5.0
pecan lodge is good, i definitely recommend it to anybody that has been wanting to try it. as of dec 2017, it still ranks #1 for bbq in dallas only. the wait isn't as long as franklin bbq in austin and the line moves fairly fast so it's not that bad. hopefully, my review helped!

if the beefribsare ever in stock, go for it, they never have enough in stock due to popular demand. one of these days, i'll eventually stop by and grab some.

love everything this place has going on. it’s about as low maintenance as you can get when it comes to a good sit-down restaurant, and the quality of the food is just above and beyond. the atmosphere is bustling, it’s really fun with everyone piling in within a 4-hour window. you order before you sit down, and the food is ready super quick. pick your own table, each table has an entire roll of thick paper towel, because you’re gonna need it. you get a lot of food for a really good price. theribsand pulled pork will just melt and fall apart in your hands. the fried okra is good, and side mac and cheese is so, so, so creamy. try the banana pudding for dessert, delicious way to wrap it all up. amazing food, i wish we could’ve hit it everyday we were in dallas.

experienced pecan lodge today. meats smoked w/ mesquite or oak wood.ribs& brisket average flavored. nothing spectacular. sides: collard greens (sweet), pinto beans (not hot), okra ( crunchy). dessert: peach cobbler (oat crumble crust). overall, pricy for the same backyard non-experienced bbq.

weekdays, this bbq joint opens 11am-3pm. 4 hours of business! i arrived there 10:50 and a queue were already formed. door opened at 11:04 (maybe before that, but it felt that long), went in and awed at the "wall of fame". it seems that they have won almost every single food awards. well, you have to see it yourself to believe.

i ordered about a pound of beef ribs, and 1.5 lbs of brisket. they were uh-ma-zing!! moist fall-off-the-bone ribs! the brisket were good as well, but i was really brought to the next level by the ribs! simply the bestribsi have ever tasted!

great indoor or outdoor setting. food runs out by midafternoon on weekdays. they stay open later on fri-sun. great, moist, tasty bbq with some delicious choices for sides. inside is noisy but that can sometimes add to the fun. large bar. tip: you pay by the pound. when trying to figure food quantities, i found it helpful to ask how many slices of tri-tip orribsor whatever there were in a half pound increment as that is how you pay.

this was our 6th trip to dallas to visit family. we make a point of visiting pecan lodge every time. if you are heading to dallas and want to experience some of the best barbecue in texas, get here. if you are a barbecue aficionado and you haven't been here, put it on your bucket list. the brisket is out of this world, theribsjuicy and tender, perfect bite. the mac n cheese is out of this world, staff are fantastic. there is always a line but it moves well, some great conversations to be had in line! don't panic when you see the line and are worried about a table. they move people through efficiently so when you do get to order your food, after you pick up your drink, generally always space to sit. don't try to have someone save a table, you just screw up the process. after you order, the anticipation for that brisket is hard to explain, well worth the wait. great to see how they are supporting respect life, unite dallas, great community partner and happy to support them on every trip. can't wait to get back in october!

worth the hour long wait! the brisket and pulled pork were perfectly cooked. sausage was good as well, but the beefribswere definitely the star of the show---fell right off the bone. we decided to try the mac 'n cheese, fried okra, and the slaw and we were not disappointed. don't miss out on the peach cobbler!

we're on a 45 day road trip with an emphasis on finding some great bbq. i looked at the texas monthly mag ratings and am eager to get started. went to pecan landing today (nov 5, '15) and was not disappointed. pl is some of the very best q i've ever tasted - awesome!!! i had my first ever beef rib and was blown away. the meat was melt in your mouth, smoky, with a great sweet peppery bark. the brisket was smoked perfectly, cut in thick, pull apart moist slices with a peppery bark. amazing!!! a new benchmark for my palate. the porkribsa weren't quite as flavorful as i had hoped for but had good smoke and cooked until tender without falling off the bone. the slaw was made of purple cabbage and was too spicy hot for my taste. the mac and cheese also had jalapeño for some zip. i totally concur with the tm rating of 4.75 out of 5. tomorrow we're off to taylor, tx and louis muellers. stay tuned.

there's so much to say about this place, yet nothing i say will matter until you try it. it is the best barbecue you'll ever taste--seriously--not hyperbole. my favorite thing here is the pulled pork--it's truly unbelievable. having eaten at all the places in dallas that people consider the best, this is just so far better you'll be amazed. the brisket, andribsare also great, and they make their own sausage which is smokey and rich. the sides are great too--i recommend the mac and cheese with bacon--it's so creamy and rich, and the bacon adds a nice salty and crunchy texture to it. however, plan your trip well--the hours are minimal and they run out of meat every day. it's so good, though, that i planned my trip to dallas around a time that this place would be open, and i even extended my stay so i could eat here before returning to the airport. i'm just sayin'!
