papa has been on my bookmark/wishlist for a ridiculously long time. the display cabinet extends the length of the shop and is filled with golden pastries, sliced cakes, biscuits and tarts. papa offers both a formal dining area with an a la carte menu as well as a more relaxed cafe with the aforementioned desserts and a smaller selection of savoury dishes like pizzas, panini sandwiches, veggie bakes and lasagne.
i ordered the mediterranean panini ($10) and my bf had 2 slices of pizza ($5.50 each).
the panini was toasted and filled with marinated bell peppers and eggplant, feta cheese, tomato, lettuce, artichoke and garlic buttered bread which was delicious. they had a similar sandwich that also had chicken and deli meats as well. following our meals, we chose 2 sweets: one was a choux puff pastry filled with custard creme and soaked with a strawberry liquor ($3.50) and the other was aricottacake ($4.00). the pastry on the first one was a tad dry without the filling, didn't have much of a strawberry flavour and was too sweet for me. thericottacake on the other hand was great and had a really nice mouthfeel. the outside crust was a sweet short buttery pastry filled with aricottacheesecake consistency. this one was quite popular with the locals as it sold out quite fast. one thing i will say is, none of the desserts/food items are labelled or priced which is quite difficult if its your first time. so essentially you are buying purely on the visual aspect of the food. the lady who served me was super friendly, but i have heard complaints about the service here. it can get disorganised when busy.
