phenomenal lunch special. i've only ever gone for lunch because the price is sogoodi wouldn't want to pay the full prices at dinner. their lunch special is amazing and the service and ambiance is always great. for $9.95 you get an appetizer, entree, and dessert. the appetizers range from chicken vegetable soup to hummus to baba ganoush. the soup is great. their hummus is good, but i rarely get it because when you get there they bring out this warm fresh bread with a sundried tomato olive oil dip and it's so darn good....if i got the hummus it would just make me have to eat more bread with it. if you don't care about how much bread you eat and you love hummus then get it. or just skip the bread and dip until you get your hummus. the entrees are delicious....just be careful, a "kebab" is not a kebab on a skewer like you might think it is. they are almost all plates with meat, rice, and vegetables, unless you order a sandwich that comes with fries, or the stew. the turkish gyro plate is great, as well as the stews. can't go wrong with either the almond or rice pudding for dessert, both great....rice might be slightly better. try this place for lunch!

pasha grill: is ringing in the new year with style!. turkish food is back at the greene. and if you haven't made your new year's celebration plans, you might want to consider a cultural leap into one of the area's most popular venues and cuisines - mediterranean-middle eastern!! this restaurant with its archways into private dining spaces will envelope you into a warm and exotic atmosphere the minute you walk through the door. a prix fixe menu for new year's evening is $65 and it promises to be an unforgettable experience. turkish proverb: "better to die with a full stomach than to live with an empty one!"
the festivities will begin about 8pm with a bottle of wine or two cocktails or 1/2 raki. raki is sometimes referred to as turkey's national drink. the drink made in anatolia has a history going back 300 years. forgoodquality raki, seedless raisins and aniseed in çesme are the preferred ingredients. i'm not sure which wines will be part of the new year's offerings, but they have an ample list with everything from a red kalecik karasi to white kavaklidere narince from the ankara wine region of turkey. there is a lovely bar at the front of the establishment if you just want to pop in for a quick kebab sandwich, a gyro salad or a lovely winter soup. the pita bread here is thick, warm, crunchy, and the best i have had in dayton.
small dish mezes for the new year's celebration will be from both the cold and the hot collections. sheppard salad, cacik (yogurt, salt, olive oil, crushed garlic, chopped cucumber, dill, mint, and garlic), and a small appetizer sampler will be the cold starters. vegetarians will find this menu a masterpiece for grazing. each time i have been to pasha's, i have ordered the appetizer samplers with my dining companions because there are too many favorites: ezme (spicy chop of tomatoes, onion, peppers, olive oil and herbs), hummus, yaparak dolmasi (grape leaves), kisir (tabouli), soslu patlican (eggplant) , pilaki (pinto beans, carrots, green peppers, diced potatoes, olive oil sauce), and cacik for $16.95 (1-3 people) -$23.95 (3-5 guests).warm hors d'oeuvre for the new year's evening will be the sigaraborek (flaky phillo with feta cheese and parsley), calamari, liver, iclikofte (bulgar wheat and minced lamb), stuffed zucchini, cabbage, grape leaves, and tandir kebab (lamb shank).
for the main course of the new year's meal the entrees will be a mixed grill kebab, a vegetarian special and/or a fish's plate. if you have not had a chance to dine here since the reopening there are ten different lamb, beef or chicken kebab options, so the mixed grill kebab approach will be a nice touch for new year's. you will never tire of eating here as the total menu has over 50 dining options. house specialties are the karniyarik ($12.95) which i tried on one of my visits and can highly recommend to the fans of eggplant. and there are other distinctive dishes to sample with lots of eggplant, okra and lamb selections ($12.95-$14.95). seafood specialties are not to be missed either. shrimp, salmon, tilapia, and swordfish - served with cream, cheese or veggie mother sauces - are the poisson plates at pasha's ($15.95-$16.95).
on new year's evening the dessert plate will be a collection of baklava, kadayif (shredded wheat with walnut or pistachio), custard, and cake with turkish coffee or tea served from brass trays. coke products are also available with the meal. a toast of champagne will also be offered at the stroke of midnight. the desserts that i have enjoyed from this kitchen were the delicate sültaς (rice pudding) and of course the flaky, fresh baklava. on the regular menu the other desserts are keskul (almond pudding), kuneffe (sweet goat cheese in phyllo), kazandibi (custard) are $5.95 to $6.95. they might even throw together a sampler if you know the right way to chat them up!!! these are the friendliest folks, especially when you frequent the place.
the owner and executive chef of the pasha grill is fatih gunal and his recipes are an improvement over my previous visits to this venue. his culinary wingmen are fahri on the meat dishes and huseyin with the appetizers and soups. everyone from the manager, hostess, waiters and bus-people greet you with big smile and make you feel a bit like a sultan. entertainment here includes intriguing music of the region and belly dancing from this culture. i am happy to report that the food and service far exceeded our previous experiences.
pasha's grill has brought back a much missed mediterranean cuisine with authentic turkish chefs, you will note the difference and want to make this a regular stop when you are at the greene. reservations are recommended if you plan to celebrate chez the turks. but they will do their best to accommodate all culturally savvy foodies, if you come before 8pm (or arrive late) to ring in the new year. with such a casbah prix fixe menu and ambiance, you're bound to have an exquisite experience.
