parallel 49 brewing company

not to be confused with 49th and parallel, parallel 49 is a brewery tucked away in a corner of vancouver. although the neighborhood looked pretty shady and deserted from the outside, as soon as we stepped inside, i was taken aback by the lively interiors, the cute halloween themeddecoreverywhere, and extremely friendly service.
now already being a fan of their gypsy tears, i wanted to see what else was good. they had a pretty wide selection that day. i chose gypsy tears, pumpkin chocolate porter, a lemony one and salty scot. the porter was dark, thick, very nice. the lemony beer was so refreshing, it was like having slightly alcoholic lemonade. i tried jerkface and schadenfreude too, from my friend, and quite liked them. also, how do they have the cheapest beer of anywhere in the city?! $4 flights and $3 glasses? whaaaaa!
on the cons side, they didn't have much to eat. we settled for a warm pretzel.

best micro brewed beer in thr city in mu opinion. there beer is complex and packed with flavour. yes, thedecorleaves something to desire, however it's kinda a cozy feeling in there and makes the environment super laid back.

cheap. decent beer. a must visit if you're doing a tour. i love their marketing and product, but their tasting room experience isn't my favourite. on the weekends it's usually very busy and the service isn't amazing... but you can't beat $1 tasters & $4 flights (probably a factor in the place being so packed).

the atmosphere is a cross between a college pub and bar frequented by vacationers. it's slightly different than other (often pretentious) craft breweries. thedecoris basic and the washroom lineup can often be killer. sometimes it feels more like a bar than a tasting room.

i'd recommend coming during the week and bringing a growler to fill up. very decent priced growler fills.

bottom line: good product, average tasting room experience.
