osteria ilaria served tapas-style italian cuisine. we went for the chef’s selection menu and thedishesthat came out were simply delicious, unique and elegant. my favourites were the baby octopus n’duja, paccheri prawn pasta, and porcini mushroom croquettes. the venue was a bit small, similar to that of tipo 00, but service was pretty good, and overall it was an excellent dining experience.

we came here for a birthday dinner and had a fewdishesto share. the pasta wasnt well cooked but croquette was delicious. overall the standard dropped significantly but the main highlight was a cockroach on the wall!! no apologies given.

201908 long have we eaten next door at tip00, finally we made it to osteria ilaria. the wine list you see at the end is e x t e n s i v e but the dinedishesare 👌🏽 bar staff are friendly if you'd like front row assistance to choose each drink as you go. line up outside these popular places and which ever one you end up in, you won't be disappointed

first night out post iso. felt surreal with minimal tables and reading full wine lists off your smartphone to reduce contamination. alldisheswere presented beautifully. but that’s where it stopped. there were no real stand outdishesunfortunately. service was friendly and knowledgeable.

a beautiful restaurant that i wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. we ordered the chef’s selection, all thedisheswere perfection and it was just the right amount of food for us. the wine list is extensive and the staff are very knowledgeable if you need help. service is fantastic and staff are really friendly. can’t wait to visit again soon.

pasta quality was good though erring on the slightly salty side towards the end. scallops were light on flavour but still nice. the staff saw that one of ourdisheswas taking a while to come out (though we didn't feel like it was too long and didn't ask them about it), they kindly gave us a side dish (roasted brocolli) for free! this was such a nice surprise and honestly i would recommend that dish as it was so (surprisingly) good! overall a good place to go for some decent quality pasta, relaxed/casual astmosphere.

went on a friend’s birthday. we had sydney rock oysters, zucchini flower and mushroom croquette to started off, mushroom croquette is a star almost ordered 2 more but my friend reminded me that we still have 5 moredishescoming. bummer :( arite! next we had swordfish crudo, char grilled baby octopus served with spicy n’duja and abrolhos scallops. they were all amazing, we were so much in love with all dishes! our sher wagyu rump cap was perfectly cooked. my friend just had gnocchi for the 1st time and she gave it a thumbs up. i would rate 10/10 and definitely be back. suggest that booking is essential if you want to make sure that you will have a spot. they are very busy especially dinner time.

the service is great very friendly staff but the food is under expectations. we have ordered the highly recommended smalldishespaccheri pasta, mushroom croquette and zucchini flower they were just average. small place which is really noisy during weekends night and we had to yell to talk. this place is little over rated.

we had an amazing time at osteria - the staff were super friendly and the food was really good. i thought the flavours in theirdishesreally stayed true to the ingredient and concentrated on bringing all the flavour already in the food out. some of thedishesbalanced the natural flavours really delicately, and i really like that. hurray for a wonderful night out.

i heard so much about this restaurant and was pumped to try it out!

love the shop decor it feels very italian. we found the staff to be a bit over passionate. after we told her we were not that hungry so may order a fewdishesto share, she was still keen to sell us all thedishesand didn't seem too happy as we turned her down. that wasn't very professional.

the gnocchi has to be my favourite. it melted in my mouth and super flavoursome. octopus was also great only hope the portion size is bigger.

next come to the big issue: the whiting fish has loads of small bones and i got choked. this is unacceptable as it wasn't written on the menu and the bones are super hard to tell. at least the staff should remind us of the bones! we ended up having to handpick lots of bones out of the fish.

the zucchini flower was crispy on the outside but not sure about the texture and taste on the inside. was a bit bland and not really enjoyed that one.

overpriced, limited selection and average food. sorry but won't be back.

hands down one of the best italian restaurants in cbd (if not the whole melbourne lol) everything we had was so so so delicious. the pasta was cooked to perfection, sauces were unbelievably good, entrees were served in timely manner and such generous portions (and again so damn tasty!)

i’m used to having only a few bites on a serve in ‘fancy’ places but we had good amount of food for eachdishesand was so satisfied with everything at the end.

the stand outs for me were the croquettes, calamari, octopus and all of the pastas (we had 3 different ones and i can’t remember what we had hah!)

this place is worth the dollars you throw at them.

came here for lunch and decided to go with the 4 course shared menu.

found it hit and miss with thedishesor perhaps because i had very high expectations. the standout for me was definitely the fish which was delicately cooked.

for me the wine by glass list was disappointing as i didn’t really like any. the waiter brought some other opened bottles for me to try but again didn’t like any until he brought a german riesling from mosel which was pretty decent.

the atmosphere was relaxed and so was the service.

not sure if i will be back.

will come back for:
+ pine mushroom gnocchi

came here for a bite of lunch with some work colleagues and was super impressed with thedisheson offer. i had the pine mushroom gnocchi and it was delightful (tasty, velvety and fluffy). service was exceptional. prices above average and certainly approaching fine dining (but worth the price you pay). a great option for a business lunch for sure.

the first good impression starts when you enter in the osteria. the cosy atmosphere, the music and the decor make you feel at ease instantly. the good journey completes the same;
all thedishesare tasting like italy, from the simple porcini croqueta, to the gnocchi... certainly one of the best italian restaurant in melbourne

we rocked up early without a reservation (just before 6pm), sure enough the restaurant was at full capacity shortly after. the space is much more larger than tipo 00 and seats are easier to acquire. it also boasts a wide open kitchen so grabbing seating next to the cooking station or even at the bar wouldn't be entirely bad.

we started off with their negroni oscuri (their house negroni cocktail) which was a killer cocktail, you get a whiff of basil every time you take a sip. i moved onto their ilaria grande later that night which had a strong sweet orange flavour.

they complimented us with some olive bread and butter, would have preferred the entire roll to smother that beautiful soft butter all over, it was really smooth. we got a porcini mushroom croquette each served with some aioli, perfectly crisp and the interior was creamy mushroom, delightful and not overpowering.

the surprise dish was their burrata with pickled quince and bitter leaves. whilst the cheese was mild in flavour it was wonderfully milky and slightly stringy. it was a great combination which highlighted the freshness of the burrata. the kingfish with persimmon and salted radish was another great dish, the persimmon was slightly sweet and did not detract from the quality of the fish.

at this point there was a bit of delay with our next dish, my guess is that they're at full capacity and absolutely swamped in the kitchen (i made the enquiry just to make sure). shortly after our final starter dish came, it was octopus with an n'dujo (speck) and anchovy sauce. this combination gave off a similar flavour profile to a spicy chorizo. the octopus was nicely charred and a bit muscular, not the softest but i enjoy a good chew.

the first of our pastadishesarrive and it was my favourite dish of the night. it was paccheri pasta (almost like sheets) with a rich sorrel, tomato and (from what i'm told) scampi sauce topped with pieces of crystal bay prawns. not sure if they did actually utilise two types of crustacean in this dish but the sauce was to die for and if no one was watching, i'd lick the plate clean. the pasta on the other hand was perfectly cooked and al dente.

our table was cleared and our waiter actually thought that was it. there was yet another delay with our order and our waiter went to check with the kitchen. ideally you'd want all your maindishesout at the same time (we chose not to get any main meatdishesand stuck with pasta) but we didn't mind as much as the food so far was stellar and it gave us a bit of breathing room in between dishes. the gramigna pasta was good but did not quite live up to the highs of the previous dish. perfectly cooked and packed some bite, paired with duck sausage and artichoke. we did not expect our side of potatoes to come in a singular form which looked like a japanese nasu dengaku (miso glazed eggplant). a great side which was slightly burnt on the surface and sat on top of a creamy fontina cheese sauce.

finishing up we got a trio of desserts (all of them). their deconstructed cheesecake consisted of goats curd (cheesecake) with passion fruit and toffee biscuit. solid dessert. the juniper meringue with white chocolate cream and desert lime is reminiscent of a pavlova, crumbly and sweet. lastly the chocolate semifreddo with citrius cream and olive oil was a weird combination but not the first time i've had chocolate and olive oil together. when done right it can be delicious but i found that the saltiness was too dominant.

despite the food not coming out in sequence it could be forgiven, dish after dish left a positive impression on me. ultimately they rectified the situation before it became an issue. some of the best italian/modern italian food i've had within australia, so much so it has just given me unrealistic expectations for tipo 00.
