i have eaten here many times and have always had great service; in fact, i haven't been to any other sushi restaurant in over a year. i've never had the hibachi - i'm there for the sushi, but i have always been greeted warmly. once they were understaffed for the evening and we had to wait just a little bit because they were very busy. i know they tend to hire college kids for basic seating andserviceand i can imagine the call out rate around finals and summer time shenanigans.

with that said, theservicehas always been at minimum "to be expected given circumstances". the are always kind. the chef behind the bar i swear only speak japanese. it's the only language he'll respond to me in. he's not rude and isn't judgmental that i am not fluent.

the food has never been "bad" and i've been eating sushi since i was young. i've had bad sushi (a-tan) and this place has never had bad sushi. their prices are only fair considering the atmosphere, location, and parking; but they are easy to find.
the parking does suck if you, like many texans, have a large truck. it's doable, but it is a small lot behind the restaurant and can be a tight fit on a busy evening.

for myself and my young son, i typically spend about 40-50 dollars between soup, edamame, 2-4 different roll dishes and drinks.  i've not been around for the happy hour yet.

i hope this helps and keep in mind there is another osaka that i've heard is rude and has otherwise horrible service.

definitely underwhelming in almost every way. sesame chicken was bland, teriyaki steak was also bland, and in fact not steak, it was glued steak.servicewas inexperienced, and rude. atmosphere was also underwhelming. our bill was $56 for a glued teriyaki steak, sesame chicken, gyoza (the only pleasing dish we had), 2 iced teas, and one beer. we were up charged $6 for fried rice, even though we ordered brown rice. when we brought that to the waiters attention, he told us we ordered fried and he wasn't taking it off the bill. by far the worst food we've had in sa. with 10,000 restaurants in san antonio, and sapporo (the best real japanese food in the city) to compete with, don't waste your time or $$$ at osaka.

is there a 1/2 star or no star option?? i read some negative reviews prior to our recent dining "experience" at osaka. some warned against doing the hibachi but they were old and i thought surely they've corrected the issues...that would be a big negative! my family and i went this weekend and found this place to be an embarrassment when it comes to hibachi and good food service. where do i begin? our waitress took our drink order then disappeared, only seemed to show up to give us "bad news" (out of sea bass sushi, "do we want to wait on salads?" as they made more). when she would return, she had forgotten to bring what we asked for (chopsticks, salt/pepper, sauces, etc...my bro n law had to get up and get several things himself). once the seemingly disgruntled chef showed up, he basically muttered things and began cooking flavorless food (didn't use butter, seasoning, anything) and basically slung the food on our plates. he actually called a "timeout" at one point to go get dipping sauces (that our waitress wasn't) after asking us who our waitress was (how the hell should we know...and why don't you?!" i kept thinking). very umprofessional. bottom line, service& food we're terrible for any restaurant charging $25+/plate! might wanna step it up guys before u become another 'failed restaurant' statistic! lots of better choices in town...avoid. shoguns actually beats this place hands down imo!

excellent hibachi!!. my wife, kids and i love this place!! we always go during the weekday lunchtime for the hibachi. we are never disappointed, everything is cooked as requested and have the yum yum sauce on demand. i can easily say we've eaten here more than 10 times, and they havent failed. even their new chefs that might be nervous put on a good show and great food. prices are standard, andserviceis great. do not go to the bandera osaka for hibachi. we made that mistake only once. (they suck).

we loved going for the happy hour that has $2 sapporo, 2$ ichiban, sake bombs and 3 rolls for $20 from a limited selection (naturally). thrserviceis aleays nice, cheerful, and friendly and as quick as you can find when ordering hand made sushi. the reason we will go to godai instead is that they stopped having the sushi on the happy hour. that was the primary reason we went and had friends join us regularly. we all agree that nigiri sushi is required to have specials for it to be a happy hour at any sushi restaurant. we hope they change back to the reason that got our neighborhood of beacon hill coming to them in the first place and gosh knows we lament the loss of the sushi specials. i hope they change this and post it on their features here on us & we'll return without abandon. we usually spend about $45-$60 per couple each visit with 3-6 couples so that's some lost revenue.

excellent food!. this was my first japanese steakhouse in san antonio (i am from iowa, here for military) and going here was a great choice. the food was outstanding. went there on a saturday night, got right in, sat down and ordered with no problems. got some appetizers, sushi and teppenyaki food also.

the appetizers were excellent (fried dumpling) as well as the sushi which we ordered the dragon roll with spice added. they accommodated all special requests also which was great. the main meal was excellent as well, we had an outstanding chef who talked to us, and was very personable the entire meal through. made the meal much more enjoyable on top of the great fresh food that was made for us.

all in all, this restaurant was very good, the only downside was the prices were a little higher than most japanese steakhouses that i have been to, but theservicewas great, food was fresh and tasted great, and there were no other downsides at all.

i would recommend this place to everyone!

i have been to osaka on two occasions and my experience was the same both times. great sushi. overpriced. poor service. both times we were forgotten by our server and had to flag them down every time. they weren't even that busy.servicewas also very slow. no sense of urgency there. not a problem if you don't care to lose 1.5 or 2 hrs of your life to have dinner.

the food was good but theservicewas awful. we were a party of 4 and all we had was the sushi. we each ordered 2 rolls and 2 people got both of their plates right away. they had completely finished their food even after waiting a few minutes to see if ours were coming soon, before we were served. when we did get something, it was only one roll. ten minutes later i got mine. then we had to ask about the last plate only to be told they were out of that one! i guess he wasn't planning on letting us know? who does that?!! and my final disappointment is that they serve an endangered species on their menu (blue fin tuna) not cool. this place isn't worth the trip - if you can even find it because there isn't even a permanent sign with their name on it.

yum!. sushi was delicious! probably the best rainbow roll i've had in all the sushi places i've eaten in san antonio. edamame was less to be desired though. but fun atmosphere and theservicewas very friendly.
