regina, you have the weirdest food sometimes. decided to give this fusion place a try on apr 11, 2018. restaurant is small and pretty spartan in terms of decor; they obviously spent their money on the bar.

was handed amenuwhen i walked in and i chose where to sit.menuis unique and it’s definitely a fusion between korean and japanese. i settled on the crispy roll, volcano roll, and beef bulgogi.

food arrived quickly. sushi was ok, tuna was canned (i get it, it’s regina) and overall very sweet. sauce on the volcano roll was sweet and not very spicy. rice was a bit dried out. bulgogi beef was ok but the veggies were bland and watery. just not a lot of flavour going on and not what i would expect.

total bill was $34 including taxes. if i’m going to pay $10 for a roll, it should have actual sushi grade tuna. maybe the tastebuds in regina aren’t ready for flavourful korean food full of spices and textures. won’t be coming back anytime soon.

i stopped in here this week for a late, light dinner. themenuis convenient for that, with. number of reasonably priced starters that can be combined into a meal, or shared with friends.

i had the takoyaki, which i found a bit undercooked, but still tasty enough to keep burning my mouth on. i also had the agedashi tofu and chicken halitosis, which were both quite good.

this is a good spot for drinks and snacks with friends. when i go back, i'm going to try the server's recommendation - the stone pot bibimbap.

i was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant.  the sushi rolls were the perfect bite sized and very tight.  service was good and the seating comfortable.  my only negative comment is that themenuis limited.  the chef should consider adding some nigiri.

orange izakaya offers japanese sushi and korean dishes, so it really is a fusion of tastes. without question, our absolute favourite dish on themenuis the dolsot bi bim bap (rice mixed with sautéed vegetables, korean beef topped with a raw egg). it delights the moment it arrives at your table, still sizzling in a hot stone bowl and awaiting a stir or two to blend all the ingredients together. dave and i love the fried rice bits sticking to the sides of the bowl at the end of the meal. i highly recommend this dish!

good food, great ambiance!!. this is a really nice little place. we shared some sushi and had some wine. the gyoza was also pretty good. michi still has my vote on best sushi in the city, but orange izakaya had some really good and inventive sushi rolls. the service was really good and it is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy your dining experience. i will definately go back and try moremenuitems!

good atmosphere, quality food.. i ate here once this past summer. i think i had the bibimbap, but i can't remember what my friend had. i recall that we sat outside, and the service was quite good (as was the food). i'm not usually a fan of fusion restaurants (they can be hit or miss), but this place had a lot of authentic korean dishes on the menu, which was impressive.

speaking as someone who has lived and traveled in asia, i can say that regina is definitely lacking in the number of decent foreign restaurants that it has. i agree with the earlier comment that regina isn't exactly seoul, so expectations do have to be tailored to the context. that said, the food was great, and there were many interesting things on themenuthat i would have liked to try had i the opportunity to go there a second time.

it's a neighborhood restaurant.... when you live near the "granola belt" or cathedral area, you have to find a restaurant where you can meet friends, if only for a coffee. orange izakaya provides a quiet place for conversation and good food. i'm still experimenting with what's on themenuand have found few clinkers. sometimes i wonder what people expect in a local restaurant ... this isn't seoul.

it's a good place to meet friends ... and that's all you can ask of a joint in hippyville.

nothing to write home about. orange izakaya is a small restaurant in the cathedral area that specializes in japanese, korean, and fusion cuisine. it's restaurants like these that make it difficult to place in a category, because even though the food is good, it doesn't quite make it to the standard of 'great' neither. with the exception of one dish, nothing is terrible and the food seems to be free of msg.

regarding the japanese food, the taste is comparable to that of michi's high quality, but with a less spectacular presentation. the rolls are substantial and often drizzled with tasteful sauces. also, this is one of the few places in regina to find decent korean food. in both cases, i found the servings to be too small, and more often than not, my utensils would be wandering the table, poaching food off the plates of fellow diners.

during their sunday brunch, we got a better idea of the kitchen's capabilities, as themenufeatured mostly fusion cuisine. both the spinach feta pie and the sweet potato biscuit 'benny' tasted wonderful, but the same cannot be expressed for the dismal toasted shrimp 'sammie.' the latter lacked any hint of shrimp and looked/tasted exactly like a hot dog bun with tomato slices, lettuce, and dill sauce in between. also, most of the yam chips were overcooked. once again we had to order more, because one dish wasn't enough to fill an individual stomach.

overall, it is difficult to rate a restaurant like orange, because although the food is good, it does not give me the urge to instantly return, nor am i deterred from ever going again. the price is slightly higher, but not ridiculously overpriced.

this is the sort of restaurant where if you got a gift certificate, you'd have no reason to be offended at the person who gave it. but no reason to get excited either.
