this restaurant is crowded and i don't really understand why... the food is too basic for the price. for example a frankfurt sausage with mashed potatoes andredcabbage. the presantation is bad (looks like school restaurant). and a 1.2 liter pitcher of beer is $24 ! oh well, maybe it's german food in general that lacks taste and refinement...

big disappointment. this place used to be outstanding. not any more. the menu is not the same. the goulash soup tasted like it came from a can. the sauerbraten is not even close to being sauerbraten it is just tasteless meat covered in a sauerbraten like gravy. theredcabbage had no flavor. the staff was rude and knows nothing of german cruise. when i told the waiter that sauerbraten should be marinated, he responded that we can't do that here. what? i was stunned! this is so disappointing since this was a such a wonderful restaurant for so many years. to add insult to injury, the bad food is expensive. we need to find a good german restaurant in aa county! avoid this place!

successful reopening after the fire. we called ahead for seating and while we still had to wait, the delay wasn't too significant compared to those who walked in without a call-ahead.

with 5 diners, we were seated in the main dining room at a 4-top with a fifth chair off to the side. the table was a cramped for 4 and very cramped for 5 with utensils and napkins for everyone in a large stein on the table.

we ordered several appetizers - fried dill pickles, cheese spatzle and potato pancakes. these, along with our beer orders, arrived fairly quickly. the fried pickles were very hot, fresh out of the fryer. the potato pancakes were very tasty, complimented nicely by the homemade apple sauce.

i ordered pork schnitzel that was accompanied by spatzle andredcabbage. the schnitzel was quite good - well fried and nicely complimented by the side dishes. the spatzle was a bit flavorless but theredcabbage was excellent, full of flavor!!

it's good to see the old stein inn has recovered well from their fire - we'll be back in the future!!
