this restaurant is crowded and i don't really understand why... the food is too basic for the price. for example a frankfurt sausage with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. the presantation is bad (looks like school restaurant). and a 1.2 liter pitcher ofbeeris $24 ! oh well, maybe it's german food in general that lacks taste and refinement...

successful reopening after the fire. we called ahead for seating and while we still had to wait, the delay wasn't too significant compared to those who walked in without a call-ahead.

with 5 diners, we were seated in the main dining room at a 4-top with a fifth chair off to the side. the table was a cramped for 4 and very cramped for 5 with utensils and napkins for everyone in a large stein on the table.

we ordered several appetizers - fried dill pickles, cheese spatzle and potato pancakes. these, along with ourbeerorders, arrived fairly quickly. the fried pickles were very hot, fresh out of the fryer. the potato pancakes were very tasty, complimented nicely by the homemade apple sauce.

i ordered pork schnitzel that was accompanied by spatzle and red cabbage. the schnitzel was quite good - well fried and nicely complimented by the side dishes. the spatzle was a bit flavorless but the red cabbage was excellent, full of flavor!!

it's good to see the old stein inn has recovered well from their fire - we'll be back in the future!!

now that the chef is gone.... the chef (dirk) was a fine dining chef. he was not a cook they pulled off the street who just needed a job. this guy was brilliant in the kitchen.
now he is gone. :(
as for the ambiance, it is an authenticbeergarden. the live music and 10 beers on tap make it a fun place to get together with friends.
