this wine bar come restaurant come party place has it all and the best thing is, it is right around the corner from us. like literally a 1 minute drive or a 5 minute walk.

their pizzas are thin with crispy bases and have yummy toppings. we shared a large provence pizza (blue cheese, fresh figs and streaky bacon) and a portion of pepper poppers – like chilli poppers but instead of a jalapeno chilli, these are pepperdews stuffed with cream cheese, covered in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. served with tangy chilli mayo yuuummmmmm!

nexttimeyou are thinking of somewhere to go that has a great vibe as well are delish food…. do yourselves a favour and pop into oblivion :)

p.s. you can look forward to a bit of table dancing later into the night!

i had a burger here a couple of months back and, at the time, rated it as a solid 4!

the patty was good, the burger well prepared & the sauce was good to, albeit served questionably.

there are a lot of ‘buts’ though, that contrived to bring my overall rating down to a mediocre 3, maybe even a 2.5.

these points all focus around service and presentation, and if the management/owners haven’t been for ‘how to serve a meal’ training yet, i suggest they book their spots soon.

first of all the burger was served on a bread board. not uncommon i hear you say, but the one that oblivion uses is a miniature version there-of, barely big enough for the burger to fit on only!
the chips are served separately on a plate and were way over there on the edge of the table behind the condiments and the sauce (served, wrong again- in a tea saucer, not a bowl!).

the chips themselves were nice, but had the girth of eben etzebeths thumbs..?
they were tasty, but due to their sheer size, came across more as long roast potatoes than fries.

so back to the condiments. i had to ask for ketchup (why, when ordering fries?) and it arrived served in a miniature (yes, again) jam/preserve-type bottle with an opening so small that a teaspoon would barely fit through it.
the problem is they don’t even give you said teaspoon, so you end-up awkwardly pouring it out and it ends up all over the show! maybe that’s why the chips are so big, to catch the cascading tomato sauce…

i happened to be there between 5-7pm which is when they offer their in-house craft beer at a nicely reduced price. (if memory serves r25.00 instead of 39/40 bucks). this is a very decent discount, but what they fail to tell you, and this again just reflects badly on their service, is that only two of the five crafts are on special. to my chagrin i only found this out at paymenttimewhen the two i sampled were, obviously, not on the happy hour special!

so a burger and a couple of beers coming in way-north of 200 bucks is just a tad steep if you ask me.

will i be back? might give it another go after my impending lotto win…

i have visited this place on three occasions.
the first time, we merely ordered a drink
the secondtimewe shared a pizza.
the thirdtimei was a guest at a friends dinner hosted at this place.

on the second occasion, oblivion was so full that they mixed our food order up and we waited extremely long. the pizza was not worth the wait. it was expensive and honestly rather disappointing. on my third visit, oblivioun was even more packed. the pizza which arrived was like cardboard. hard and tasteless. i felt sick later that evening.

i would advise coming here for some drinks only.

it’s been a while so i am a bit rusty😂. i have been intending to go to this restaurant for the longesttimeand i am somewhat happy and disappointed that i finally got to. disappointed, because i was completely disillusioned as to what i thought the place was, but happy because it turned out to still be pretty cool.

getting service was a definite problem, but the barking dog beer and cocktail specials were amazing ❤️. i really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. oh also i’m vegan now🙈, well trying. so watch the space for some vegan wine places😂💁🏾‍♂️.

what a fantastic place. this is the firsttimethat we have been there and will certainly go again.  unfortunately we are from the northern suburbs so cant go that often.  the food was excellent, and we have travelled overseas as well as in south africa, and never have we had such a fantastic waiter, nothing too much trouble, even down to taking back the bottle of wine we ordered as we did not like it and bringing us something else.  jill mccarthy

reason for going: we went there on sunday after having driven past oblivion a couple of times, they outside looks very cool and we were curious.

food and drink: they have their own brand of craft beer called dogs bones or something like that, of course i had the ipa which was great. i also had the grabouw pizza which was great and it had a thin crust so i managed to finish the whole thing.

service: the service was good if it is judged by cape town standards (i find that wait staff in cape town will generally walk past you and ignore you most of thetimeyou are dining in their restaurants even though your glass may be empty they couldn't be bothered).

ambiance: they have an outside deck on the upstairs level which would be great to sit on when the sun is out. the music was pretty low and when we asked about this we were told it is because the neighbors complain which is such a pity as the whole ambience would be 10x better!

what a fun night out! having never been here before, i had no idea that this place turns into a club after a certain hour. i went to a friend's farewell dinner over the weekend and we ordered a bunch of pizzas to share amongst us all. pizza is great and the type that makes for great next day cold pizza left overs. my favourite was the one with chicken, feta and avo.

update: returned for lunch and thistimeopted for the bacon and brie burger. wow! great patty, amazing thick cut fries - the whole burger was way better than my expectations and so deserving of a 1 point increase in score.

i have been going to oblivion since it opened! (that is a real longtimeago). in fact i remember hosting a birthday party there for a whole lot of actors and presenters that i did a live tv show with...phew, now i feel old...er.

oblivion's rooftop view and service was an attraction to me. this evening however i was quite dissapointed. the waitron serving my table was very good at first, but once it came to moving downstairs it was like we were completely forgotten. and one point my friend and i had to go and look for him and had to re-order our round of drinks even though we been ordering the same drinks for two hours. he attended to us when he had to leave and although coming across as a friendly guy, it didn't seem like he was 'really' there.

for the food, i went with the safer option of the pizza. the burgers haven't been great lately. the thin based alpine pizza is what i advise for a meal and for a snack i would advise the fries.

when it comes to drinks, approximately two months ago a group of us suggested a change in the brand of tequila they have. they said it would change soon. this hasn't happened.

i don't tend to write long reviews, but for an establishment like oblivion the general feeling from my friends is that they have dropped the ball slightly. after being a patron for so long...well...yeah.

still a great venue, but it seems there is untapped potential and room for improvement.

oblivion is a nice little spot in this area which offers something different to all the nearby franchises and fast food. i've been several times and always enjoyed the pizza and decent wine list. the deep fried camembert starter is also really good.

on my most recent visit, i started with a vanilla milkshake which is a huge serving and was pretty standard but enjoyable. for starters we had the pepper poppers - these are unique as its a cheese stuffed pepperdew as opposed to jalapeño. i did enjoy that. for mains we ordered a party pizza, it was great when it arrived but it took about 40 minutes to be served because apparently that's how long they take to make.

overall, a nicetimeas always. pizza took too long. i also think they need better shading on the rooftop - we had to move three times to avoid the sun. you can't offer a rooftop without adequate seating in the shade.

the rooftop seating offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can just kick back and chill with a cocktail. there are heaters, blankets and more than half the tables are covered with a tent, which keeps the rain away, but does not restrict the view (if you decide to sit upstairs on a night like we did).

my friend and i were very keen on having mojitos and even more so when we saw that they were on offer for only r25 during happy hour. sadly though, our waitress informed us that they had run out of mint and so we had to decide on an alternative. having ordered before 7 (which is when happy hour ends) i asked the waitress if we could then still get something else for the same price, but she said no. which was disappointing.

we shared a half-half pizza - the village and canterbury. flavours were fresh and the pizza crust thin and cripsy - delish! the service was a teeny bit slow, but friendly. only suggestion would be to please stock up on mint nexttimeand if you happen to run out, perhaps make up for that somehow.

to oblivion and beyond
(ok its 'to infinity and beyond' but oblivion sounds awesome to – thanks buzz)
firsttimeout was not the easiest venue to find. should have just followed the crowd.
unfortunately was not able to indulge in any of the meals on offer - arrived late and everyone had already eaten.
but back to the venue - this place really lights up the night ‘saturday night fever’ dance floor and all. was waiting / expecting john travolta to appear, white suit and all the moves.did have a flash back or two from past disco era.
oblivion is like a red bull on steroids.starts off relatively calm and gathers momentum as the night progresses.  a vibe that gets people on their feet and on the odd occasion, on the tables too. place was well packed out, so the ordering of drinks did take some time. understandable given the volume of thirsty people.
bar people - great job - you endured and conquered.
in summary - really memorable evening spent here. great atmosphere, good selection of music, great people and in essence a southern venue worthy of a good few visits.
will return to eat and no doubt, party on some more.
thanking you
