i had a burger here a couple of months back and, at the time, rated it as a solid 4!

the patty was good, the burger well prepared & the sauce wasgoodto, albeit served questionably.

there are a lot of ‘buts’ though, that contrived to bring my overall rating down to a mediocre 3, maybe even a 2.5.

these points all focus around service and presentation, and if the management/owners haven’t been for ‘how to serve a meal’ training yet, i suggest they book their spots soon.

first of all the burger was served on a bread board. not uncommon i hear you say, but the one that oblivion uses is a miniature version there-of, barely big enough for the burger to fit on only!
the chips are served separately on a plate and were way over there on the edge of the table behind the condiments and the sauce (served, wrong again- in a tea saucer, not a bowl!).

the chips themselves were nice, but had the girth of eben etzebeths thumbs..?
they were tasty, but due to their sheer size, came across more as long roast potatoes than fries.

so back to the condiments. i had to ask for ketchup (why, when ordering fries?) and it arrived served in a miniature (yes, again) jam/preserve-type bottle with an opening so small that a teaspoon would barely fit through it.
the problem is they don’t even give you said teaspoon, so you end-up awkwardly pouring it out and it ends up all over the show! maybe that’s why the chips are so big, to catch the cascading tomato sauce…

i happened to be there between 5-7pm which is when they offer their in-house craft beer at a nicely reduced price. (if memory serves r25.00 instead of 39/40 bucks). this is a very decent discount, but what they fail to tell you, and this again just reflects badly on their service, is that only two of the five crafts are on special. to my chagrin i only found this out at payment time when the two i sampled were, obviously, not on the happy hour special!

so a burger and a couple of beers coming in way-north of 200 bucks is just a tad steep if you ask me.

will i be back? might give it another go after my impending lotto win…

amazing food, atmosphere and very friendly, warm service! i enjoyed everything from the starter to the chips i stole off my fiancè's plate and their delicious pizza with the most interesting, but well-paired toppings. i would go back again and again. also, they make a reallygoodamericano.

great place for drinks andgoodfood. staff is always friendly and inviting. quiz nights are a big bonus of you're into that sort of thing. lots of parking outside. lots of food and drink options. variety of seating options too from sitting inside by the fire on a cold day or soak up some sun outside on a sunny day. well worth visit.

a really cool spot for a cold beer, goodcompany and an exquisite, uninterrupted view of table mountain. the beer goes down well and our waitress was pleasant 😊👌🏻

unfortunately, the bacon and brie sandwich i had was deadly underwhelming and small portioned. seems like very little effort went into making it. the vegetarian nachos, however, was pretty flavorful. go there for a view and a pint.

reason for going: we went there on sunday after having driven past oblivion a couple of times, they outside looks very cool and we were curious.

food and drink: they have their own brand of craft beer called dogs bones or something like that, of course i had the ipa which was great. i also had the grabouw pizza which was great and it had a thin crust so i managed to finish the whole thing.

service: the service wasgoodif it is judged by cape town standards (i find that wait staff in cape town will generally walk past you and ignore you most of the time you are dining in their restaurants even though your glass may be empty they couldn't be bothered).

ambiance: they have an outside deck on the upstairs level which would be great to sit on when the sun is out. the music was pretty low and when we asked about this we were told it is because the neighbors complain which is such a pity as the whole ambience would be 10x better!

oblivion caters to the needs of a lot of different people and you can almost always find what you looking for. it is one of few places that allows smoking indoors, but only upstairs so if that's not your vibe then there's always the outside and downstairs area.
the food is what you would expect from this establishment it is agoodquality at a fair price and cooked well.
the waiter was attentive and very pleasant.

a really lovely place, friendly and attentive staff, despite being very busy! i ordered the prima vera pasta and requested chili on the side and it was delicious. pasta was cooked al dente, plenty ofgoodolive oil and pepperdews. they even gave agoodsecond of chili on the side. the virgin colada was creamy and the best i've tasted.
their chocolate fondant dessert was worth every calorie!

thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend monday night quiz night.

so there seems to be a lot of competition in this area which is always agoodsign. i landed on the last flight from jhb on friday evening and i was feeling a bit peckish. i ordered the bacon and avo pizza and much to my surprise it was delicious. thin base and very tasty. kitchen was open late and very accommodating. the service from the staff wasgoodand if you ever in the area give it a try sooner rather than later. upstairs area closes early but i'm sure on a nice summers day it adds to the atmosphere.

pub grub, no fuss establishment. thin crispy pizzas, tasty cocktails but nothing too extravagant. it's never a first option for me, and generally go when people have chosen to. i don't mind oblivion during the day, for a catch up or to watch a soccer match, but it gets abit too rowdy for me at night. but agoodoption to meet up with friends and take it easy.

oblivion hasgoodpizzas and opens until late. during the day they also have a lovely open air roof top sitting area - a sanctuary away from the bustle of claremont. some nights it is only over 23 so just doublecheck before going.

many many memories here. a fun drinking hangout with a vibe and crowd that varies from night to night. great bar and a vibey... perhaps noisy area downstairs and a lovely deck upstairs for the warm summer evenings. great spot to meet friends or watch the big game. the food isn't the main drawcard, but it's prettygoodfor a drinking establishment.
