review from sum gal. our family has been coming here for years now. it has always reminded me of grandma's kitchen. alright, maybe not my grandma's, but perhaps someone else's :-) what i mean is, the atmosphere is completely without pretense. relaxed.
there are ever so many selections. take advantage of happy-hour to experiment. this is how we have found some of our favourite foods: deep-fried squid (no one does it better, imo), chicken feet, deep-fried chinese perogies, chicken with steamed rice, dumplings (all types except the premium. that one is crunchy, offered with mayo. weird).
it's not often that someone in the family will say "ick", but when it does happen, another member is only toohappyit gobble it up! this is the advantage of the huge selection.
understand that different cooks will have their own style of a particular dish. this isn't necessarily a bad thing. i've personally enjoyed the different takes of hot and sour soup, but have not always appreciated a different version of beef-ball.
affordable.

came here for lunch with the wife. i wasn't feeling well and there's nothing out there that warms you up like a big bowl of congee! she was craving fried rice so we got a plate of that as well.

service is super quick and attentive. we were directed to sit anywhere we pleased and also came with utensils and hot tea shortly after. this place has a wide selection of noodles, stir fries and dim sum. pretty must most popular cantonese dishes are served here.

food is excellent at noodle express. their dishes are consistent and very reasonably priced! they havehappyhour dim sum from 2:00-close everyday where each dish is $2.70! if you're not familiar with dim sum, i would equate it to chinese style tapas. dishes are small and made to order and designed to be shared.

the problem with this restaurant is ventilation. your clothes tends to smell like chinese food after eating here. also, this isn't the nicest in terms of decor. it actually has a very cafeteria like feel with the fluorescent lights and folding chairs.

this place is cheap, fast, and good. they have a greathappyhour and i am never disappointed when i come here. it's a crappy looking place but the food more than makes up for it. my fav are the pineapple buns, all the dumplings, their orange tripe, everything.. even their fried rice is fantastic.

i love this lovely hole in the wall!! it has student friendly prices(2.50$ per thing duringhappyhour) and a relaxed atmosphere. it is the highlight of my life. my favorites are the coriander shrimp dumplings, pork buns, golden bun, green pepper shrimp, vietnamese spring roll(comes with yummy garlic sauce) a the bbq pork rice cakes. i go here a couples times a month and rave to my friends about it...mostly so i can take them there and eat more of their food. a+ from his student on a budget :)

food is good. however, there is a hidden cost during dim sumhappyhour that is not posted anywhere. there is a 50 cents charge per person during dim sumhappyhour. this charge is not on their menu, not posted anywhere. we had to asked them several times why our total amount is more than what we calculated. the cost is not significant but it is not a good business practice to charge people hidden cost. who knows when this hidden cost will increase to $1 per person.

this is a great place for some fast, delicious, cheap dim sum. although they don't roll the food around in carts as many people are used to, the food is no joke. the food has a homey feel and the packed house will well represent that. if you ever find yourself waiting for a table in the crowded restaurant, head over to sam po right across the street because they're both owned by the same people! you can sometimes see employees carrying trays of steamer baskets from one restaurant to the other.

my favorite would be the famous shrimp dumplings (ha cao) and pork dumplings (siu mai) but all of the food is great. what's even better is thathappyhour starts from 2-close so you can get all your favorites for cheap. don't sleep on this restaurant. they pack a punch for the tiny restaurant located in the big building in the middle of china town.

i like the food specialy the the dimsum and lobster roll.. the owner is nice but the other employee (young girl) has an attitude problem.. we've been there for how many times but she doesnt even bother to smile or evenhappythat they have customers.. there should be a balance between good food and good service so that the customer will keep on coming back to the restaurant..

i'd never tried dim sum before and my husband and i were eager to try something new. while there were many delicious things, there were also several misses. we loved the steamed pork buns, the dumplings of all sorts, the pineapple coconut buns, and, specifically, the egg tarts. yum!
my husband was very grossed out by how many bones were in some of the meat and not all of it was able to be eaten as it had a lot of connective tissue. i explained more about the culture and style of cooking and he was less unimpressed but we still won't order that again; personal preference.
either way, they have 'happy hour' (hh) on throughout dinner and you can choose a ton of things for way less. it was a really tasty experience for a very good price!
service was ok, ambiance left much to be desired but, hey!, it was tasty and cheap!
i'd say give it a go! especially duringhappyhour!
cheers!

what a ripoff!!. went forhappyhour and even though it was 2:00 was charged full price! my friend was treating and she ended up paying quite a bit more... these people have no clue how to manage a business pulling this kind of stunt. charging whatever prices(s) they want. they tried this too often across the street at another dim sun restaurant. is this a new asian business practice? it and they suck! never going back to eith restaurant!

i was thoroughly disgusted. i am a regular at the noodle express downtown and today i arrived there at 1:50 for thehappyhour. our food was prepared and brought to our table fairly quickly. now comes the disgusted part. i go to pay the bill thinking i have been chargedhappyhour prices and they charged me full price for everything. i questioned the price stating that they should have beenhappyhour prices and she said everything was on your table by 2 and i said wellhappyhour starts at two and she stared blankly at me and said it is full price. for the 20 or so extra dollars that they received for their full prices they have lost a loyal customer for life. i hope that your greed was worth the loss of so many more dollars in the future

dollar for dollar, the best dim sum in winnipeg. you walk in duringhappyhour and there's a lineup. and you will wait. you wait because at the end of this line there is some of the tastiest and freshest dim sum in winnipeg. you order the pork dumplings and the shrimp dumplings, the fried shrimp rolls, and the stuffed eggplant. you order some chicken and rice, stuffed peppers, beef tripe, sharks fin dumpling, and chinese pierogies. and you keep ordering: sticky rice, chicken feet, bean curd rolls, and pineapple buns. the food comes quick, hot and fresh; not pushed around on a cart all afternoon, but from the kitchen directly to your table. well worth the wait.

also, no joke, noodle express is home to the best glass of water in the city.

5/5 urbanspoons.

june 20 we were headed to dim sum garden on rupert ave. (the “we” being the 3 sisters & our mom) to have a belated birthday supper together.  unfortunately, there was a note on the door saying that they were closed for renovations.  i had arrived first and because it is a bit of a chore to get my mom places by car, i quickly scanned around for an alternate spot to dine.  right across the street is a place that i knew to be formerly called noodle express.  currently, there is a banner blocking the sign that indicates that they serve a dim sumhappyhour where the prices are two for one! the decor is no great shakes but it is clean and bustling with other diners awaiting their orders.  carts are not wheeled through the dining room.  instead you must order from their menu and if you are not familiar with the name of dim sum items, this can be a challenge.  we were in the clear because sister #3 not only has a stellar memory regarding food items but she actually travelled to beijing last s

best dim sum in winnipeg. it's one of my favourite places to go, and i wouldn't have known about it without my friend telling me to. they have the best dim sum in the city in my opinion. and thehappyhour starting at 2pm? all dim sum plates $2.50? count me in! you will be completely satisfied and pay very little for what you get. bbq pork buns, the pinapple buns, the sho mai(sp?) and the turnip cake(i believe that's what its called in english) is my favourites. everything is good.
the places is consistently busy, and i've had to share a table with others in order to squeeze us all in. service is fast and efficient, and due to this, it can be hard to get a server's attention, unless you're calling to them in cantonese like what i do ha. i have yet to try their main dishes, but i will definitely do so on my next visit soon.
