wasn't crazy about it. disappointingfoodand service/. my husband and i decided to eat here after hearing a couple of good reviews. we had ordered the 1/2 sausage poboy, red beans and rice, and gumbo.

the sausage was good but sparse on the poboy. big piece of bread and one small split sausage with no toppings. by the way they were out of lettuce. (??)

the red beans and rice were overly soupy like they added water to make it last a little further. no sausage in red beans and bland.

gumbo was bland and watery. no substance to it at all. no vegetables, 1/2 a piece of shrimp, and a few pieces of chicken thigh meat. it didn't have any flavor at all. added alot of hot sauce to even make it palpable.

the woman waiting on us seemed to be in a bad mood and was saying curse words under her breath. just not very friendly.

growing up in cajun country, i know good cajunfoodand this was not it. sorry.

this was our first visit there and probably the last. the lunch special w/ the 1/2 poboy, one side, and huge tea for $8.99 was not a good value. i would soon go to the poboy factory and get the scruffy special.

this is the best cajunfoodin town and some of the best barbecue. the red beans and rice with smoked or andouille sausage is killer. they have crawfish platters and sell live crawfish when in season. the brisket and pork barbecue sandwiches are huge and delicious. the green beans are great as well.

so it was my 1st time at this restaurant i thought i wanted to try something different and figured with the reviews i was safe for taste and quality. foodwas good but the service that i received and watched multiple others that came in after me receive was plain disgusting they were just rude! it went from me sympathizing with them thinking they was having a bad day to it just being this is ridiculous.  i'm more likely to accept horrible service if thefoodis amazing and it was just good not even great. i won't be back i will stick to the po boy factory in 5 points for all my cajun needs!

underwhelmed :-(. victim to over-hype based on others glowing reviews of new orleans lunchbox? i was extremely underwhelmed on my visit on 14 sep. 2012. yes, it is in a bp at the corner of jordan ln. and holmes ave. the best part of the getting my to-go order was the collage age young man working the counter, who was really helpful and nice. he even cut short several phone calls on his cell, to show me their various dishes. i was buying for dh, my mom and myself, so i got the following (b/c crawfish season ended in july-ish and it was unavailabe): smoked pulled pork on bun w/small baked beans for me; smoked sausage on bun (the last one he had!) for mom, plus a praline and "new orleans bread pudding;" and a quart of chicken and sausage jambalaya for dh and son. like others, i think the buns need either a good toasting, or to be put on a flat top to get some texture to them. by the time i drove the less than .25 mile to mom's house, the pulled pork sandwich bun had basically turned into a flat, super soggy, bread-mush. i had to remove the pork and cole slaw from the "bun remains" to eat it. the pork had a good smoky flavor, and the cole slaw was nice + an added pickle slice or two. but, usually the nice thing about a sandwich is you eat it with your hands and you hold the bread -- no can do, in this case. i hope they at least get a small toaster oven. the baked beans were unremarkable, they tasted like canned with some diced sweet onion added in and warmed up . not bad, but not yummy like others in hsv who will incorporate their pulled pork into the beans. mom's smoked sausage looked ok, but had the same bun issue as mine. she did enjoy the praline (home made by owners wife, per young man at the counter) and it was her 1st try at bread pudding, so she couldn't really say much about it. poor dh barely touched the quart of jambalaya stating that his version is s so much better, and frankly, i was not interested in it.

the layout of nol is confusing, as it is a "deli-style" counter at the back of a standard bp. i've walked in there 100 times and never even noticed it. the nol area needed sweeping and the paper towels on each tabletop were spotted on some, with ketchup. i was suprised their health rating was somewhere in the 90s. it's basically a college man dishing upfoodfrom a buffet layout of previously cooked food. i wish i loved this place, because i frequent that area. maybe it was just an off day.

i first heard about new orleans lunch box from some coworkers whose main descriptor was that it was in the bp station at the corner of jordan and holmes. this sounded like it had the potential to be either a true hidden gem or a complete disaster. so naturally, i had to check it out. i parked at the gas station and walked into the building which surprised me with both it's cleanliness and the small dine-in area. the counter was straight back from the door, below a menu board on the wall. i opted for that day's special--half of a smoked sausage po boy, one side, and a 32 oz tea. they offer all manner of toppings for the po boys--mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, jalapeños, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes--but i kept it simple with just lettuce and tomatoes. for my side, i selected the red beans and rice. i had myfoodin hand less than 10 minutes after i arrived and i settled down at one of the tables to soak up the mid-day sun. my sandwich was delicious. the bread was better than average french bre
