lucknow is the city of nawabs.alongwith the culture, tradition and architecture, nawabi food became world famous from lucknow.however like all cities of india, lucknowites have a big craze for chinese food as well.
in the past there were some famous chinese restaurants in the city which served good chinese stuff.as a kid the first name that comes to my mind is jone hing.this small but arguably the most
authentic chinese restaurant is situated in the heart of hazratganj-the main market of lucknow.it is run by chinese people and so one is assured of the correct taste and blend of the dishes. a confusion which was there for me as a kid was whether i should have chilly chicken or mutton chilly.
when we grew up a little, jonehing was still the most famous chinese hangout in the city.i have lost track of the number of times dad used to take us there for dinner on saturdays.however after say 1988 the craze for jone hing was reduced.the reason was the quality had dropped and some better chinese restaurants had come up. i restarted going jone-hing was in april 2011 after a gap of almost 18 years.after that we still remained in contact with it as the cook and staff was called at home for some parties .the food was back to its original taste.in the late 90's due to the opening of kool break, our contact with jone hing became minimum. it was in news last year for the wrong reason of raid and all that.however, the restaurant has re-opened after few days and what i heard from  a lot of people that after a low phase jone hing has again regained its old glory.

the soups are special, however i must say that the chicken soups are much better here than the vegetarian ones.chicken sweet corn and chicken hot and sour are the favourites.one can munch on the lovely spring rolls for starters.the spring rolls are equally good even if u have the vegetarian ones.for the main course chowmein andnoodlesare still the favourite.the taste, blend and look are just so yummy.however for the side dish there is a lot of controversy(just joking).chilly chicken and mutton chilli are 2 dishes to die for in jone hing.they are just too good. however mutton chilli is more crisp than chicken. so one can order accordingly.mutton chiili dry is better whereas chilli chicken is betterwith gravy.

jonehing has slightly dim lighting as compared to some other restaurants but the ambience is just perfect for a chinese meal. american coupsey is another perrenial favourite.the red gravy and crsipy friednoodlesmake it class apart.as in most places the chicken choupsey is served with a fried egg on the top.the chinese choupsey has a greenish thick gravy and is equally good.the portions are good .
i firmly recommend jonehing to all the chinese lovers, though nowadays i would recommend that you get the food packed and have it at home as some people will not like the dim interior!!

this place kind of old restraunts in lucknow. i ordered chilli chicken, chicken sweet corn soup and chicken noodles.
chicken chilli was sooo cripsy and tasty.it was not the usual one which we have. no capsicum or onion just cripy chicken toasted with sauces and green chilli. i didnt expected it to soo good to be honest at first place but yass it really was. its must have dish there. soup was ok and chickennoodleswere also good.

one must visit this place to have good chinese cuisine with indian touch to it.

“so as long as you have good food in your mouth, you have solved all problems for the time being.” next eatery on our list which is unravelling the "kyakhau" dilemma of lucknowites is jone hing. situated in hazratganj, the heart of lucknow is this notable chinese eatery known for its phenomenal indo-chinese food for decades.

beginning with the soups, we attempted their chicken sweet corn and veg peking soup garnished with noodle crispies which was worth every penny spent. both the soups were of optimum consistency and went well with a dash of vinegar. moving on, is their legendary chilly chicken not much known but with awesome taste. the chicken was cooked to perfection, appropriately spiced and was superbly fresh with sauces and herbs. a half portion of the dish is satisfying for two grown-ups. it can be best had with chicken fried rice, however, we suggest less use of oil.

other favorites of the place are dishes like hot and sour soup, mutton chilly and spring rolls. we additionally attempted theirnoodleswhich wasn’t in any way great, being thick and too much greasy.

one of the most major drawback of the joint is their overpriced menu considering the below average service and off-putting ambiance which can easily creep out anybody. despite the heavy-on-pocket meal the restaurant does not refrain from serving pumpkin ketchup and untidy salt-pepper holders. moreover, in this digital era they only accept cash payment.

we would not suggest this restaurant for a wholesome dinner yet worth a go to satisfy your craving for some good lip-smacking chicken chilly.

jone hing is a dim lighted desi chinese restaurant in main hazratganj. their menu is extensive but mainly everything is pretty similar.
the service is okay, not too fast and not too slow. the ambience is dim, with crowd bustling in at all times, the decor is hanging lanterns, dragon murals, laughing buddha statue and paintings.
i ordered their chicken yee foo mein, chicken peking soup, chilli chicken. the yee foo mein is a noodle dish usually made with flat eggnoodlesbut their chefs had just tossed usual chowmein noodles. also, the yee foo mein wasn't exactly appetizing looking, let alone to eat. i had a few bites and got the rest of it packed. the peking soup was tasteless with a few undertones of multiple sauces but no salt or even sugar.
the chilli chicken was decent, the chicken was crunchy and tossed into the sauce.
i hope they serve better food in the future, but i would definitely recommend you to try the chilli chicken and chilli mutton.

the place is reminiscent of a typical shady chinese bistro. can be easily spotted by the pedestrian pavement in hazratganj. we visited towards the evening. the service is slow. food makes up for it; it is on the spicier side. their chilly chicken and chilly mutton deserve a mention.noodleswas kinda bland. it's a strictly chinese restaurant, so you won't find bread here. i didn't quite like the ambiance but, yes, liked the food.

even though relatively heavier on the pocket, they serve the most authentic chinese cuisine at this price! this place has been a favourite for years now. even the most basic of the dishes like the chickennoodlesare to die for. no better option for those chinese food cravings that spring out of nowhere! :d

went there 2-3 days ago with my family. we had talumein soup‚ egg fried rice ‚ eggnoodlesn chicken manchurian ( dry n gravy both). the food was pretty good. the soup was nice but it had morenoodlesthan vegetables. gravy as well as dry manchurian was good.noodleswere nice but the rice was just ok.
what i didn't like about the place was the ambience. waiters drenched in sweat‚ really bad cutlery‚ torn table cloth‚ no swipe machine and finger bowl. if you're charging 300 for a plate of manchurian then please at least provide a better ambience. i'm not sure if i'll go there again or not. there are better places that have better food at a lesser cost. but u can try it out if u want to have some peace.
ps i really likes the wooden walls.

remarkble! this is the word i would i like to address the restaurant with the offering of food it has to give on the plate. scrupmtious are its delicacies and i think i'v ebben there so many times that the menu and food are in the back of my head. still it doesnt stop me to visit jone hing any given day to taste the amazing pork chilli anfnoodlesor peking soup (chicken), or the fried rice.

the owners are abosoultly amazing people and extremly courteous and wonderful.
been privileged with their company and i thin with everything that they offer with servcies to the food they do deserve a 5 .

jone hing is by far the oldest restaurant in lucknow serving chinese dishes since some 20 years back.

the service is satisfactory although it could have been better.

the overall appearance truly depicts a typical chinese restaurant. so its great overall.

the rates are highly economical , quite budget friendly.

chicken chilly , hongkongnoodles, fried rice and manchurian were delicious.
they all had the perfect blend of spices and herbs.

everything was good except the service which definitely need improvement.

over if you are tight on budget , want some tasty yet economical chinese delicacies , then this is your final destination (y) :d

for someone who wishes to curb his desire for chinese food, which is not heavy on pocket jone hing is the place to be!
once you enter, you could feel that you back in time around 20 years!
for people like me, who survive on pocket money, you can enjoy mutton chilli or chicken chilli with egg/chicken/veg.noodlesfor rs. 300-400 for 2 people!
the ambience and service is not top quality though!
i rate it 3.5 out of 5!

had heard a lot, so had a lot of expectations. but was seriously disappointed.
a small place opp the hazratganj parking lot. decorated in the traditional chinese style.
ordered chilly mutton, which is crisply fried slivers of mutton. but it had too much cornflour coating.
the fish dish tasted a bit odd.
chicken dish was ok.
hakanoodlesalso decent.
quantities were above average. prices also good.
but had an upset stomach the same night. probably it was the fish. service also poor. takes too long for food to arrive. the waiter even mixed up dishes so vegetarians be extra careful. you might end up getting chicken noodles,

an average place. have had better chinese food.
