may i start by saying that the mr. foofoo's (my husband) family has such a long standing history with this restaurant, it's amazing! this restaurant goes back at least 25 years (approx.). this is where mr. foofoo's parents dated back in the day and this is where all his trips to lucknow came to stupendous climax on his family visits.

one of the first test i had to pass to be his soulmate for life was to see if i like their mutton chilly. i still remember how he held his breath to guage my reaction. thankfully, i loved it. i've never tasted somehting quite like that and its not like your regular lambchillyyou get in usual chinese restaurants.

some of the noteworthy dishes i had was: hot & sour soup, chillygarlic chicken noodles, egg fried rice & mutton chilly. though not exceptional it's good food. will satiate, no doubt! more than anything this is foofoo family ritual on our trips to lucknow!

lucknow is the city of nawabs.alongwith the culture, tradition and architecture, nawabi food became world famous from lucknow.however like all cities of india, lucknowites have a big craze for chinese food as well.
in the past there were some famous chinese restaurants in the city which served good chinese stuff.as a kid the first name that comes to my mind is jone hing.this small but arguably the most
authentic chinese restaurant is situated in the heart of hazratganj-the main market of lucknow.it is run by chinese people and so one is assured of the correct taste and blend of the dishes. a confusion which was there for me as a kid was whether i should havechillychicken or mutton chilly.
when we grew up a little, jonehing was still the most famous chinese hangout in the city.i have lost track of the number of times dad used to take us there for dinner on saturdays.however after say 1988 the craze for jone hing was reduced.the reason was the quality had dropped and some better chinese restaurants had come up. i restarted going jone-hing was in april 2011 after a gap of almost 18 years.after that we still remained in contact with it as the cook and staff was called at home for some parties .the food was back to its original taste.in the late 90's due to the opening of kool break, our contact with jone hing became minimum. it was in news last year for the wrong reason of raid and all that.however, the restaurant has re-opened after few days and what i heard from  a lot of people that after a low phase jone hing has again regained its old glory.

the soups are special, however i must say that the chicken soups are much better here than the vegetarian ones.chicken sweet corn and chicken hot and sour are the favourites.one can munch on the lovely spring rolls for starters.the spring rolls are equally good even if u have the vegetarian ones.for the main course chowmein and noodles are still the favourite.the taste, blend and look are just so yummy.however for the side dish there is a lot of controversy(just joking).chilly chicken and mutton chilli are 2 dishes to die for in jone hing.they are just too good. however mutton chilli is more crisp than chicken. so one can order accordingly.mutton chiili dry is better whereas chilli chicken is betterwith gravy.

jonehing has slightly dim lighting as compared to some other restaurants but the ambience is just perfect for a chinese meal. american coupsey is another perrenial favourite.the red gravy and crsipy fried noodles make it class apart.as in most places the chicken choupsey is served with a fried egg on the top.the chinese choupsey has a greenish thick gravy and is equally good.the portions are good .
i firmly recommend jonehing to all the chinese lovers, though nowadays i would recommend that you get the food packed and have it at home as some people will not like the dim interior!!

“so as long as you have good food in your mouth, you have solved all problems for the time being.” next eatery on our list which is unravelling the "kyakhau" dilemma of lucknowites is jone hing. situated in hazratganj, the heart of lucknow is this notable chinese eatery known for its phenomenal indo-chinese food for decades.

beginning with the soups, we attempted their chicken sweet corn and veg peking soup garnished with noodle crispies which was worth every penny spent. both the soups were of optimum consistency and went well with a dash of vinegar. moving on, is their legendarychillychicken not much known but with awesome taste. the chicken was cooked to perfection, appropriately spiced and was superbly fresh with sauces and herbs. a half portion of the dish is satisfying for two grown-ups. it can be best had with chicken fried rice, however, we suggest less use of oil.

other favorites of the place are dishes like hot and sour soup, muttonchillyand spring rolls. we additionally attempted their noodles which wasn’t in any way great, being thick and too much greasy.

one of the most major drawback of the joint is their overpriced menu considering the below average service and off-putting ambiance which can easily creep out anybody. despite the heavy-on-pocket meal the restaurant does not refrain from serving pumpkin ketchup and untidy salt-pepper holders. moreover, in this digital era they only accept cash payment.

we would not suggest this restaurant for a wholesome dinner yet worth a go to satisfy your craving for some good lip-smacking chicken chilly.

i've been visiting the place for the past 25 years or more. i keep going back for the taste. i haven't foundchillychicken like jone hing's anywhere else. i've deducted one star as this place is not moving with the times. they still do not accept orders online ( through various food delivery apps ). however i will definitely recommend the place to those who like chinese food.

for me it was love at first sight. reminded me of my hometown- bombay, with its sober and traditional yet unique and homely vibe! it is a pretty old restaurant and based out of hazratganj, and jone hing fits superbly into the what i’d describe as the place i’d never say no to. the ambience made me comfortable!

i just had the manchow soup and muttonchillyand felt both were excellent value for money. the portion size was huge!

everything about this place is downright simple, with the focus being the taste, and only taste. i’d take that any day over the extra bucks i normally shell out at fancy places. jh is pure value for money!

i’m definitely visiting this place again to try the main course.

ps- i am surprised this place is rated 3.7 as a write the review. to the people of lucknow- what is wrong with you??

the place is reminiscent of a typical shady chinese bistro. can be easily spotted by the pedestrian pavement in hazratganj. we visited towards the evening. the service is slow. food makes up for it; it is on the spicier side. theirchillychicken andchillymutton deserve a mention. noodles was kinda bland. it's a strictly chinese restaurant, so you won't find bread here. i didn't quite like the ambiance but, yes, liked the food.

i visited this place for dinner once and i left within 10 minutes
ambience of this place is like a secret chinese mob hideout , shady.
it took the waiter so long to get water and the menu that we left.
anyway i had read a lot of good reviews about their muttonchillybeing the best in town , so after a few days i ordered muttonchillyfor a pick up ( they don’t have delivery)
food- muttonchillyboneless : probably the worst i’ve ever had , the mutton was so hard more like cornflour n no actual piece, it was tasteless.
it costs 340 bucks so i wasn’t gonna throw it , i had to make the entire gravy again at home n cook the pieces in it for it to be edible!!

ambience - 1/5
food - 1/5
value for money - 0/5

p. s . - i usually don’t say such harsh words about a place but this is the limit . i will never visit this place again and recommend you guys also to avoid it .

meal for 2: ₹1000/-

seating: too low but comfortable

the place can get better washroom as the washroom is too low lit and looks shabby.however a greta place to enjoy chinese

jude, the owner of jone hing or the new jone hing restaurant as its being called as these days..is a dear family friend who whenever i'm in the city invites us to his place. it's been years now that whenever we develop craving for chinese cuisine, this is the very first place that comes to our minds... since jude has been associated with alot of chinese stuff lately.

the ambience of the restaurant just adds to the eating experience at the place. coming back to the cuisine, my top 3 picks and something that i would highly recommend would be -
1. crispy chicken chilly, the iconic dish of the jone hing's.
2. chicken hakka noodles
3. chicken american chopsuey.

these three are a must have on every non vegetarian's tables.

the chickenchillydeep fried in chicken skin and fat clearly gets a 5 star rating from my side and overall the experience and the food at this place gets a hands down 4 star rating.

i know it would be weird to associate lucknow with chinese cuisine, but this restaurant is highly recommended when in lucknow. must visit the place atleast once when in the city.
