newjonehing reads the name overhead. what's new about it, we shall never know.
it has always been an age old restaurant, perhaps the oldest chinese one in lucknow.
the ambience, decor & lighting could definitely do with some uplifting, altho this is how restaurants in china appear to be, people have said. but we are in india & such things do matter to us here.
that having been said, a quaint, nice place for authentic, well prepared, tasty, generous helpings of cantonese cuisine. their mutton chilli is rated high and i do enjoy their chicken hong kong, singapore chowmein, chicken chilli garlic noodles, special chow chow & chicken garlic sauce as well.
perhaps, after raising their prices of late, they could attend to their interiors somewhat.

lucknow is the city of nawabs.alongwith the culture, tradition and architecture, nawabi food became world famous from lucknow.however like all cities of india, lucknowites have a big craze for chinese food as well.
in the past there were some famous chinese restaurants in the city which served good chinese stuff.as a kid the first name that comes to my mind isjonehing.this small but arguably the most
authentic chinese restaurant is situated in the heart of hazratganj-the main market of lucknow.it is run by chinese people and so one is assured of the correct taste and blend of the dishes. a confusion which was there for me as a kid was whether i should have chilly chicken or mutton chilly.
when we grew up a little, jonehing was still the most famous chinese hangout in the city.i have lost track of the number of times dad used to take us there for dinner on saturdays.however after say 1988 the craze forjonehing was reduced.the reason was the quality had dropped and some better chinese restaurants had come up. i restarted going jone-hing was in april 2011 after a gap of almost 18 years.after that we still remained in contact with it as the cook and staff was called at home for some parties .the food was back to its original taste.in the late 90's due to the opening of kool break, our contact withjonehing became minimum. it was in news last year for the wrong reason of raid and all that.however, the restaurant has re-opened after few days and what i heard from  a lot of people that after a low phasejonehing has again regained its old glory.

the soups are special, however i must say that the chicken soups are much better here than the vegetarian ones.chicken sweet corn and chicken hot and sour are the favourites.one can munch on the lovely spring rolls for starters.the spring rolls are equally good even if u have the vegetarian ones.for the main course chowmein and noodles are still the favourite.the taste, blend and look are just so yummy.however for the side dish there is a lot of controversy(just joking).chilly chicken and mutton chilli are 2 dishes to die for injonehing.they are just too good. however mutton chilli is more crisp than chicken. so one can order accordingly.mutton chiili dry is better whereas chilli chicken is betterwith gravy.

jonehing has slightly dim lighting as compared to some other restaurants but the ambience is just perfect for a chinese meal. american coupsey is another perrenial favourite.the red gravy and crsipy fried noodles make it class apart.as in most places the chicken choupsey is served with a fried egg on the top.the chinese choupsey has a greenish thick gravy and is equally good.the portions are good .
i firmly recommend jonehing to all the chinese lovers, though nowadays i would recommend that you get the food packed and have it at home as some people will not like the dim interior!!

“so as long as you have good food in your mouth, you have solved all problems for the time being.” next eatery on our list which is unravelling the "kyakhau" dilemma of lucknowites isjonehing. situated in hazratganj, the heart of lucknow is this notable chinese eatery known for its phenomenal indo-chinese food for decades.

beginning with the soups, we attempted their chicken sweet corn and veg peking soup garnished with noodle crispies which was worth every penny spent. both the soups were of optimum consistency and went well with a dash of vinegar. moving on, is their legendary chilly chicken not much known but with awesome taste. the chicken was cooked to perfection, appropriately spiced and was superbly fresh with sauces and herbs. a half portion of the dish is satisfying for two grown-ups. it can be best had with chicken fried rice, however, we suggest less use of oil.

other favorites of the place are dishes like hot and sour soup, mutton chilly and spring rolls. we additionally attempted their noodles which wasn’t in any way great, being thick and too much greasy.

one of the most major drawback of the joint is their overpriced menu considering the below average service and off-putting ambiance which can easily creep out anybody. despite the heavy-on-pocket meal the restaurant does not refrain from serving pumpkin ketchup and untidy salt-pepper holders. moreover, in this digital era they only accept cash payment.

we would not suggest this restaurant for a wholesome dinner yet worth a go to satisfy your craving for some good lip-smacking chicken chilly.

my go to place for authentic chinese cuisine. chilli chicken here is possible the best you'll ever eat. so crunchy and flavorful, untampered by tons of sauces. all those who're saying they've tasted better chilli chicken than this in street side stalls probably have sophistication only to appreciate street food😀 they can probably never understand the authentic flavours thatjonehing serves.

i've been visiting the place for the past 25 years or more. i keep going back for the taste. i haven't found chilly chicken likejonehing's anywhere else. i've deducted one star as this place is not moving with the times. they still do not accept orders online ( through various food delivery apps ). however i will definitely recommend the place to those who like chinese food.

for me it was love at first sight. reminded me of my hometown- bombay, with its sober and traditional yet unique and homely vibe! it is a pretty old restaurant and based out of hazratganj, andjonehing fits superbly into the what i’d describe as the place i’d never say no to. the ambience made me comfortable!

i just had the manchow soup and mutton chilly and felt both were excellent value for money. the portion size was huge!

everything about this place is downright simple, with the focus being the taste, and only taste. i’d take that any day over the extra bucks i normally shell out at fancy places. jh is pure value for money!

i’m definitely visiting this place again to try the main course.

ps- i am surprised this place is rated 3.7 as a write the review. to the people of lucknow- what is wrong with you??

jude, the owner ofjonehing or the newjonehing restaurant as its being called as these days..is a dear family friend who whenever i'm in the city invites us to his place. it's been years now that whenever we develop craving for chinese cuisine, this is the very first place that comes to our minds... since jude has been associated with alot of chinese stuff lately.

the ambience of the restaurant just adds to the eating experience at the place. coming back to the cuisine, my top 3 picks and something that i would highly recommend would be -
1. crispy chicken chilly, the iconic dish of thejonehing's.
2. chicken hakka noodles
3. chicken american chopsuey.

these three are a must have on every non vegetarian's tables.

the chicken chilly deep fried in chicken skin and fat clearly gets a 5 star rating from my side and overall the experience and the food at this place gets a hands down 4 star rating.

i know it would be weird to associate lucknow with chinese cuisine, but this restaurant is highly recommended when in lucknow. must visit the place atleast once when in the city.

remarkble! this is the word i would i like to address the restaurant with the offering of food it has to give on the plate. scrupmtious are its delicacies and i think i'v ebben there so many times that the menu and food are in the back of my head. still it doesnt stop me to visitjonehing any given day to taste the amazing pork chilli anf noodles or peking soup (chicken), or the fried rice.

the owners are abosoultly amazing people and extremly courteous and wonderful.
been privileged with their company and i thin with everything that they offer with servcies to the food they do deserve a 5 .

there are 6 chinese families in lucknow, a second generation chinese-indian 'jude yep' owns the restaurant-jonehing.

located opposite the 'hazratganj parking lot' one of the oldest chinese restaurants in the city.
lucknow's liking for chinese cuisines is well known and almost every restaurant serves chinese food here, jonehing is specifically for chinese food and serving it since ages, first visit had lot of expectations from this place and i only found this place 'good enough'.

as you enter inside, ambiance is dark and of typical chinese restaurant, red and golden theme: overall great!

service is satisfactory and prices are moderate.

food is also good: authentic chinese taste with the little bit hint of indian flavor.
use of oyster and mushroom sauce, we prefer more of fried and fully cooked dishes rather than boiled or stewed and that is exactly you will get here.( no 'indo- china border' issues here).

'momos' are very good here; generally chinese food is very healthy, you can prefer it sometime over rich spicy 'tundey kebabs'.

in nutshell: budget friendly chinese delicacies with moderate service( improvement needed) in chinatown theme ambiance; worth your presence at least once.

althoughjonehing has set foot in the market since a long long time as far as i can remember, i was not very delighted to taste the food. situated in the heart of hazratganj, the location is somewhat perfect for a restaurant.

ambiance :- decent chinese decoration with paintings of dragon and lights, not very classy or extravagant but something different in the city of nawabs.

price : average. infact less than the present trend

food :- sorry to say, but for me it was dissappointing, i ordered a chilly chicken , but ironically it did have only green chillies and chicken, being a foodie i found it very unpleasant, not to see any cabbage, capsicum or carrot in the chilly chicken, the taste was different was disappointing as well.

verdict : do visit it if you want to see something different in the city of nawwabs , but like i use to say different doesnt always means good.

for someone who wishes to curb his desire for chinese food, which is not heavy on pocketjonehing is the place to be!
once you enter, you could feel that you back in time around 20 years!
for people like me, who survive on pocket money, you can enjoy mutton chilli or chicken chilli with egg/chicken/veg. noodles for rs. 300-400 for 2 people!
the ambience and service is not top quality though!
i rate it 3.5 out of 5!

jone hing used to be one of the best chinese restaurant 20 years back. i have childhood memories visiting this place. opening that red door and room filled with that "chinese" flavour.jonehing, along with hong kong restaurant in hazrat ganj have literally developed the taste of chinese food in lucknow but they couldn't keep up with time.

now if you visitjonehing, you will see a tacky decor and you will taste one of the worst chinese which you will ever eat. my last visit to this place was very recently, i went there almost after 12-15 years with those beautiful memories. the food was so bad that we literally couldn't finish even half of what we ordered. the rest we got it packed for my father who was later of the opinion that we should have not paid for such food.

i am giving 2 stars just for its legacy.
