recommended to us several times and finally made it here. so glad we did! started with the bruschetta, which is more like a pizza. tons of melted cheese, juicy tomatoes, and topped with pesto. next we split the muffeletta and the alligator sausage po'boy. the muffeletta is what they are known for and i can see why. it is huge! the bread is amazing and the sandwich is filled with all kinds of tasty goodness. i think the olive salad it is topped with really makes it. the alligator sausage po'boy was ok but definitely not good enough to waste prime stomach real estate!

the best food and the worst service. our food was really delicious-- caesar salad and seafood gumbo combo. the bread pudding was to die for. restaurant is cute and full of character. the food gets a 5 but the waiter was so nasty, rude and hostile that i give the service a 1. our waiter got annoyed when we asked questions about the menu and he had a tantrum when we asked for separate checks (we had a group traveling on business). our waiter was so angry about our separate checks that he snapped his fingers and yelled: "you! come to the cash register" as he rang up our checks. i complained to the manager and he apologized but made excuses for the angry tantrum throwing waiter. not a good way to handle it.

had a break from my conference i was attending, and my wife was out exploring the quarter. we had heard from several others that they thought napoleon house had a better muffuletta than central grocery and we had agreed on splitting one for lunch, but when she arrived with our to go order, she had brought a side of jambalaya and a shrimp po-boy in addition to a half muffuletta.
the muffuletta is different from the one at cg that is for sure, but i have to give cg the nod for the better sandwich, but this is of course a personal choice. i prefer the more tangy olive salad on the cg muffuletta with the more savory aged meats, napoleon house's was a tamed down version with less zip to the olive salad and the meats were more cold cut like and milder. i can totally see why some would like this one more than others, and it is a great sandwich. i would eat it again, anytime i did not feel like walking the several blocks further to central grocery.
the po-boy was quite good as well. the shrimp were cooked well and not over done or greasy. the bread was also very good, and if you are a fan of the new orleans po-boy, you know how make or break the bread is, could be leidenheimer bread? i do not get here enough to know whether it is or it isn't.
lastly the jambalaya was tasty and was chock full of meat. i am not a huge eater of jambalaya, but i liked it. it was also pretty cold by the time we sat down to eat it, not their fault, just a long walk to our hotel from the restaurant.
after eating the take out, it just made me more interested in having a sit down meal there. after looking at the menu, i would very much like to try the seafood gumbo, or the red beans and rice. another trip......

we thoroughly enjoyed our evening in the cozy interior courtyard. we were pleasantly surprised by the prices because the ambience feels more upscale at first glance. the food was satisfying but honestly not all that impressive. the atmosphere outweighed the food in our opinion, but we would likely return if our teenagers are traveling with us. it was perfect for them.

i loved the quaint old building which truly was what i was looking for.  the service was good as well.  the food was ok!  my wife and i ordered a muffuletta, jambalaya, and seafood gumbo to share.  the seafood gumbo was good, the muffuletta tasted ok but could have used more meat, and i didn't try the jambalaya, but my wife didn't finish it, instead she ate my gumbo.  overall it was ok, but not great.

decent cocktails but poor service. been to the napoleon house before but unfortunately their fame may have gotten the best of them. they serve an excellent pimm’s cup and the crowd at the bar is always entertaining, but the service is slow and lacking energy. it seemed to me that the hostess deliberately dragged her feet when it came to sitting patrons at the tables. unsure if she was lazy and discontent with her job or if she was trying to create an artificial environment by having a line outside the restaurant and a bar area extremely packed. when we arrived we were told 20 minutes for a table even though there were plenty of open tables. after 45 minutes, we were seated at a table that had been vacant for the last 30 minutes. content with our drinks, we decide to get a bite to eat, but unfortunately not a single server approached our table. after waiting for 20 minutes we finished our cocktails and decide to go down the street to eat instead.

the house looks very rustic from the outside. it appears even a bit dirty, to be honest. especially when compared to nearby buildings in pristine condition. walking inside, we were faced with a lively, yet dim environment. luckily (actually surprisingly too) it was not overly busy. we sat in a private corner by a very heavily autographed wall. a few rooms, as well as a courtyard area are all part of the dining areas available. nose photos on the wall were dedicated to long serving waiting staff of this establishment. we sat right next to a plak for a gentleman who spent over 35 years working for the napoleon house and retired back in 1990s. there was traditional classical music in the background - prominent and powerful at times. swirl we knew what we wanted walking in: jambalaya, gumbo, po'boys as well as pimm's cup #1 for a drink. the waiter offered to top this up with some sazerac which we agreed to. it is a busy spot, staff was very much down to business. fast and effective, although maybe a bit less talkative than we would have preferred at that time. our drinks arrived in a few minutes palate pimm's cup #1 was a mix of gun liquor lemonade, lemon soda, cucumber garnish as well as the actual gin-based pimm's #1. sazerac is based on cognac, absent, bitters and orange peel. both drinks are a great addition to your meal or night out. the jambalaya entree was composed of three rice balls with plenty of meat chunks. spicy as expected, part of the holy trinity (bell pepper, celery and onion) - quintessential new orleans' components.

one of the first restaurants we ate at was napoleon house.  they have quite a history there, the original building was actually built for napoleon himself, but he never actually lived there.  since the house was made for napoleon, the restaurant just kept the name!  however, this is not why we went to the restaurant.  we went because we heard they have the original pimm’s cup drink! when asked where we wanted to sit, we definitely wanted to sit in the famous southern new orleans courtyard!  as we walked through the restaurant though, the ambiance is casual, most furniture is wooden.  so it seemed like a family friend place, or a casual place to have lunch and dinner.  the courtyard itself wasn’t super big, but large enough to have large groups.  the great thing is that it’s half covered!  so it actually rained that morning and half the tables were wet, but the covered portion was nice and dry! pimm’s cup consists of british gin, lemonade, lemon-lime soda and a cucumber for garnish.  it
