the food :
we tried the meals with mutton and fish kolambu.and as sides the prawns and the mutton curry! the meals i felt was quite average and so was the kolambu. but the prawns curry was off the hook! so tasty and well spiced too. so was the mutton curry! they serve it in small leaf pots so you will definitely have to ask for another serving. we also went for a mutton biriyani. the mutton inside was well cooked but the biriyani felt quite average

located in a non-visible small street in triplicane. very much crowded due to its demand and parking is one hectic trouble. coming to food, we had meals which had no complaints. mutton kolambu was fantastic, fish fry and mutton gravy were extraordinary. no complaints to the food, but the way we get treated there is a letdown.

going by the name, it's a mess only. keep expectations realistic & enjoy an economical mallu meal. to evaluate the food i persuaded a keralite friend who rated the food as average, i though rate it it slightly high.

a non veg fare costs around 250 pp, veggies need just to shell out just 100 for a hearty meal. this place is locationally challenged but suits the crowd it attracts. dinner is the time to usually go, to get space for sitting & parking your vehicle as well

post a nearby meal, to satisfy your sweet craving one can head to sardarji kulfi corner, half a km down:)

attipoli restaurant taste was fabulous mutton gravy and the fish served by you is awesome great place for great lunch if you come quick you will enjoy ur food because lot of rush for this place if u want good food you have to wait. for foodie it is a must try restaurant.

just like every other restaurant i have been going to, i came to know about nair mess from an absolute foodie who raved about this place and how incredible the food here is. that is what made me want to try the place out.

so last night, i called my fellow foodie friend and asked him to come out for dinner with me, which he readily obliged.

like everyone else here has mentioned, finding the place is pain, after taking way too many wrong routes we finally landed up here, parked the bike and entered what looks like your everyday mess.

they didn't have a menu, rather the waiter verbally let's you know what ever that have. so we decided to go ahead with,

porotta - well not the best i have had, it was quite decent. wasn't flaky and crispy to much my chagrin.

thala curry - this dish has quite an unusual taste, wasn't like any other thala curry i have had before. but we liked it none the less.

chicken cry - my favorite of all the dishes we had here, this was delicious, quite spicy.the taste of pepper was prominent. it was just pure brilliance.

liver fry- this was a typical kerala preparation, loved it, being a fan of liver fry i didn't waste much time and walloped the entire dish.

brain fry-i have never had brain fry in kerala, so it was a pleasant change to try the mallu version of brainfry. this dish was amazeballs.

mutton gravy - we wanted to order their mutton curry, which they had run out off, so they offered us some of the gravy without any meat in it. it was all right, a nicely spiced curry.

verdict- definitely a place to go to, you can expect value for the money you spend here. but i found it more inclined towards chettinad food than to mallu food. but it tastes excellent, so no complaints on that front.

food is good but place is over crowded. been there during weekday for lunch. waited for around 20 mins finally got corner seat. once started having food people stand will behind and make us get up fast. had mutton gravy meals, mutton briyani and sankara fish. all items tasted good. ambience and place needs to be enhanced.

also to mention side dishes quantity is very small. can visit this place for food taste alone.

i went this mess along with my friends for sunday lunch. heard a lot about their longevity and unique taste. we ordered their non-veg meals along with mutton and fish kulombu. both are good. thala curry, liver fry and fish fry were superb taste. prawn fry was outstanding. most annoying thing is they serve much limited with a huge price. the prices are not affordable for day to day dining when they call themselves as mess.

i am true believer that certain ratings on zomato is hyped. this place lived up to that expectation. as a new newbie to chennai and a lot of recommendation from friends and zomato we landed up for lunch on a busy friday afternoon. firstly, the waiters need a lesson on service. they are quite arrogant and the place seems pretty unorganised. we ordered the "legendary" prawn thokku and vanjaram fry. the thokku is served in a 3 inch bowl and the dominant flavour is sweet. the fish fry was sliced really thin and pretty bland. the fish curry was okish. overall nair's mess is a huge mess!

place is hard to find and very small to accommodate at the lunch time. quantity is less, but taste is average only. the servers without even mentioning the availability of the dishes, started to serve and then say that the items are over/less. as it's sunday they would have informed about the rush and available menu. waste of time and 💰 money. better people check for the items prior to your orders

name is deceptive, it's not a mess in any means. maybe over the years it has risen in the standard of a mess..

prices match a normal restaurant selling south indian food.

i can totally co-relate with hotel ponnusamy in every aspect to nair mess.

location - ok. a little inward from the main road, so seems a house converted into mess and now running full fledged.

food - veg people will be totally disappointed. for non veg eaters it is a decent place. fish fry was tender n juicy. prawn and mutton mansala fry were the key rockstars of the meal.
curry mutton was just average, not tasty.

my sundays do not pass without a meal from nair mess ever since i moved to chennai. a must visit for everyone who dies for a nonveg thali. order the vanjiram fry, mutton chukka, fish curry, prawns fry. earlier this place was only operating on the ground floor which did not have air conditioning, you literally would sweat while eating. now, they have opened up on the first floor with a/c which is much more convenient. thank you for existing, nair mess!!!
