what a disappointing experience. we booked in advance but arrived to be told that walk-in customers had taken our table but they didn't want to upset them. they hadn't checked their bookings yet that day. so we waited 35mins for our balcony booking. there was no water on the dirty table and it took 3 requests to get any. no salt & pepper was provided and the cutlery was eventually left on our table in a clump for us to set our own places. main meals took 30mins to start arriving and the last main arrived 60mins after the first. we asked where the final meal was and was twice told it was 5mins away when it took another 20mins. we sat and watched customers on other tables receive the same meal despite having ordered it after us. the young waitresses tried hard but were being asked to do too much and i was disappointed to be charged a 10% public holiday surcharge for such a terrible level of service. the meals were fine. sorry - but we won't be back.

what a view! but for that price?

this place has a lot going for it, premier location with ocean views and a beautiful turkish inspired layout and interior design. the let down here is the average service and the extremely overpriced food. for a simple mexican dish i paid $21 which would have been ok if the serving size was enough to make you full but it was not even close. my wife got the prawns and they were also tiny tapas size dishes that they wanted 20 dollars for. if your wanting to go in the tapas direction or smaller plates, improve the prices and make it clear on the menu that you will not be full from anything on the menu. the mexican beef i ordered was supposedly the most filling dish. so ultimately lots of potential but need to rethink their prices and serving sizes!

a tough to find little gem. took us to find the little entry, up the stairs and away we went. felt like i'd walked onto an aladdin set with all the rugs. great unique dishes here. had the tostadas which tasted great but there really weren't enough. surely i could've had more than 5 corn chips. also shared the oven baked feta, which for this dish there was more han enough. taste was amazing and fitted perfectly well with the pita. coffee was passable.

mr curtis is a quirky little place on the second floor of a shop building accessible by a "blink and you'd miss it" side door with a crotchet bike out the front. gorgeous set up with lots of character and charm and lovely bay views. we came for tapas style dinner which was nice but not overwhelming. the place was very quiet and closed before 9pm which was surprising given it was the first week of january (although a weeknight). definitely a great place to try but i wouldn't rush to go back.

shocking. three of the four things we ordered from the menu they didn't have. this they drip fed to us on three occasions over 40 minutes while we waited. the restaurant was half full so excess demand couldn't have been the issue. then they delivered food that we hadn't ordered. they didn't have our first two wine choices either. and then there were the smokers at the next table (apparently smoking is "a grey area" of the regulations but "the owner allows it"). oh did i mention the service - it started out really well but went the way of everything else. will never go back!

worst experience ever. go for the view and not the food and a rather arrogant and slow service(understand the cafe was busy with only 1 person cooking in a rather small kitchen). 12 of us went for breakfast, where the first meal came after 40 min and last meal 90min( this meal was not even how it was requested) after ordering.
kids toast took about 50min and when it came out, it was as hard as a rock and when asked to change it, just took another 20min to do that.

moroccan omelet a bit overrated- one of us just took a bite and left the rest, but the waitresses dint even care to ask if something was wrong there.

two people were vegetarian(non egg eaters) - no option for them, and when one of them discussed the same with the waitress and ordered some mushroom, avocado and baked beans with toast, the baked beans came with some chorizo on top and when questioned, was told that this is how it is served. was returned - instead of apologising, the waitress was seen shaking her head as she walked back to the kitchen.

prawn dish- below average, with only 3 prawns and full of cherry tomatoes

2 of the coffees took about 70min to arrive to the table after multiple reminders..

to top it all, there was discrepancy in the bill.. had to get that changed too..

overall; very bad experience.

we loved mr curtis! the bicycle and picture frames at the entrance of mr curtis, had caught our eyes on the way down to the beach. on the return journey, we settled in for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat with the family on this new public holiday. thank goodness, this little restaurant had what we needed after a fun day in the sun! we were greeted by friendly staff who set us down at a lovely table with a view to the beach. service was great as the ladies brought out drinks and food promptly, even though the restaurant was already filling with people. the food, esp. the beef short ribs, was exceptional tonight. i would definitely be coming back to mr curtis on the next trip to mount martha!

the worlds smallest kitchen. mr curtis has a kitchen the size of most fridges, and very little storage space, this can be a little challenging at peak times as it is for every eatery however we are all working very hard to increase our customers enjoyment and get the food out to you quicker, we are extremely busy which we are ecstatic about and we love how you love us ! (well mostly !) so as we are all currently cooks in our micro kitchen we have decided to employ our first "chef" he comes from my most loved and the most highly decorated peninsula kitchen and we are all very excited to see the wonderful changes and dishes he creates !!!!!! watch this space lovers of curtis xxxxx

the best place to be on a day off. we always head here whenever we're on the peninsular and have never been disappointed. the food is yummy, the staff are really friendly, the fit out is great and the view is great sitting on the balcony- even love the knitted blankets to keep you warm! and if there ever is a problem, the staff are quick to help out.

i really wanted to give this place a good review.... ... but i can't. yes, the place has great atmosphere, with nice bay views and funky furniture, the food is pretty good and the staff are nice. the problem is the place completely struggled to keep up on a moderately busy saturday evening. once tables filled up, service was very slow, wrong orders were brought out, some of the servers were clueless about the wine list and we eventually canceled an order for a cheese platter after more than an hour of waiting. surrounding tables had similar grumbles. the wait staff were clearly working hard, but still gracious and apologetic. clearly the problem was not with the wait staff, it was unprofessional management.

not impressed. went for food and drinks a while back- not too impressed.
however, as we are local to mr curtis, we decided to give it another go recently.
girls working were not very friendly at all, were happier to talk amongst themselves. as we were at the bar to order drinks (approx. 3-4 girls working on dishes etc.) we were ignored for at least 5 min and one of the girls proceeded to serve another customer (who then left straight away) which they then openly were 'bitching' about in front of us whilst we were still waiting to be served.
will never step foot in this place again.

location & interior design could not be better.. one of my favourite venues for coffee on the pen, and indeed mt martha. the view across to the bay is fantastic and the decor / design rustic and offbeat. usually very friendly & promo service. sometimes the coffee can be a little milky & weak but that is probably personal taste more than anything. converts in to a stylish and low key wine / tapas bar in the summer evenings which i love!!! :)
