wish we had this place in indianapolis!. wife & i stopped by here again while in town! the pizza was just as great as last time we had it. looks like they expanded since our last visit, not sure. we'll be back, love this joint!

best pizza outside indianapolis!. had this on my wishlist to try next time wife and i passed through here on our way back to indianapolis on a trip and made sure we tried this place. thought we got here early enough around 4:00pm. not sure if iu game was in town but the wait was around 25 min. once we finally got seated (25 min to the second), the service was great and fast. kudos to the wait staff! absolutely everything was great! we love a locally owned establishment that continues tradition with great food and service! this place has a history and great character! exceeded all our expectations! pics included with review!

meatballs were exceptional! be forewarned of the "rafano sauce". basically it is their pizzasaucewith a heavy dose of horseradish! this concoction, even in moderate doses, will remove the knee caps off of most veteran hotsauceconnoisseurs leaving them in writhing pain but surprisingly unobstructed breathing!!

pizza (the divine swine) was excellent! can't say enough! very good pizza pie!

we'll be back!

if a fan of this joint is in indy, try some locally owned favorites - barry's pizza (west side), bob's tu your door (southside), route 36 pizza (west side) for a few...

enjoy all!

mother bear's thanksgiving pizza.... at least once, living in bloomington or travelling through, check the time, stand in line and try an interesting thanksgiving pizza this place puts out grey thursday. i got it free, no coupon. it came with slow-cooked green beans, a decent cranberrysauceand gravy as a dip, along with optional pumpkin pie and a drink. the piece had a layer of dressing, over diced turkey breast and, i think, a white sauce. the pick-me-up was excellent, for free.

not much to say about this place that hasn't already been said. mother bear's is simply fantastic. soft crust, flavorfulsauceand fresh toppings that all compliment each other perfectly. what impresses me most is that i've never seen a pizza place make french fries so well. it might seem random or insignificant to you, but they are very good. try them when you stop in. oh, and don't forget to sign the wall.

best in btown, decent pizza. unfortunately having lived in chicago, and nyc my standards are very high. mother bears is definitely the best in town, theirsauceis canned, and their dough is not very good. they definitely rub alot of butter, and have a good crust to cover up the sauce, and crappy toppings. after 3-4 drinks itll taste good.

i have been a fan of this pizza restaurant - a big fan - since my student days (back to 1975). i always loved their deep dish especially, their savory ground sausage with caraway, and their wonderful, tart sauce. all of that is still there and as good as ever. in addition they have many more toppings (some of which are definitely gourmet toppings) and addiitionalsaucechoices. those are equally good, though about 50% of the time, i still order my old favorites. on weekends, it is wildly busy, but it truly is worth the wait! since my student days, they bought two adjoining businesses (collegiate printers and a violin repair shop), so they have way, way more seating - sorely needed! i make many visits to iu, and always make a pilgimmage to mother bear's. it is simply the best pizza i have eever had - anywhere!

awesome. my first pizza here was the dixie two-step and i highly recommend it. it's great if you like bbq pizza because it's got a sweet but zestysaucewith onions, chicken, and cheddar cheese. i love getting their muchie deal where you get a 10 inch i topping pizza with bread or cheese sticks and a 2-liter of coke. it's enough for 2 people to share but onlt like $10.00. you can also get the specialty pizza's for a few more dollars.

not the greatest. this was my first visit to mother bear's in about five years. parking at mother bear's is, well, a bear - there's virtually none. be prepared to risk a ticket from the university or a tow from one of the neighboring merchants. better yet, just plan to arrive on foot.

the food has always been okay, but nothing special. back in the day i preferred the breadsticks to the pizza. the pizzasauceand many of the toppings are not particularly flavorful. the thick crust tastes pretty good and has some nice carmelized cheese around the edges, but the pizza is otherwise unremarkable.

today's visit suffered from the hall & oates that was blaring from a tinny 4" speaker somewhere nearby. nothing against hall & oates, but most pop music isn't much to listen to without the bass.

the pizza was a little better than i remembered. the cheese and sausage were very tasty, but the pizzasaucewas still lackluster, more bitter and salty than anything else.

the breadsticks were a complete disappointment. lukewarm and very rubbery. there appeared to be some spice sprinkled on the outside, but it had no flavor except the slightest hint of garlic salt. the cheesesauceis still good, but they don't give you enough to dip all eight breadsticks. mine lasted through six and a half stix.

this was a serviceable, filling meal, but i'm still not sure how this place snagged 4th-best-in-the-nation honors from people magazine (in 1982, mind you) and came to top the urbanspoon bloomington restaurant list. it's worth a try, but don't expect to be blown away.

as much as i'd like to like this place and buy into all the hype, the fact remains that the standout food item i obtained on this excursion was the good humor king cone i picked up at a village pantry on the way back to my car.
