momocho was one of the first places in cleveland that i had put on my list.  i saw it on an episode of diners, drive-ins and dives (apparently… because i just had to google it to figure out where i had seen it…).  it was a place that i hadn’t been to for a couple reasons.  first, it’s on the west side of town and i live and work on the east.  and while it is only 20 minutes away at best, it’s still a bit of a haul.  and second, i didn’t have anyone to go with that would justify making that haul (same reason i haven’t been to lucky’s cafe).  but, thanks to recent developments, i’ve since rectified the second excuse which in turn solved the first.  so having no reason not to make the trek all the way to the west side…which is seriously maybe four more minutes than my commute home anyway…it was time to give momocho a try.  it helps that they have a happy hour that ashley really likes… to properly enjoy happy hour, i started by leaving work early…figuring that’s part of the reason it’s cal

pricey but worth it. the ambiance was great. the drinks were delicious. the bartenders were perfectly engaging.

the guacamole was absolutely fantastic. i'd go back for that alone. i got the carnitas, he got the...um, beef-something. mine was perfectly tender and seasoned; his was a bit tough.

the items were a bit pricey, but it was worth it for some legitimately good food.

good food, uneven service. i've had a few good experiences here and one terrible one. the food is tasty - love the guacamole and the cucumber margaritas. unfortunately, the service was so bad the last time i went that i don't think i'll ever be back. when our drinks didn't show up and we asked someone about it the server came back and scolded us for asking. she then ignored us for the entire rest of the evening. she was great to everyone around us but never came to our table. it was outrageous.

best mod mex on the planet. terrific place. i hate for a week to go by without stopping by. the margarita flights are only outdone by the guacamole flights. can go light with the tacquitos or an entree. all their accompanying sauces are terrific as well, especially the tomatillo. add that to the terrific atmosphere, and you have a restaurant with a permanent spot on the rotation.

enjoyed a goat cheese guacamole and chips to start

pepita crusted trout and a chile relleno as entree

trout was fantastic, relleno was just ok-didn’t care for the breading. finished with a flan. a couple of margaritas to wash it all down. good attentive service from jon and the back servers

excellent food and service. we were seated right away. we started out with the steak skewers were so tender and flavorful. my husband got the aged steak and i got the blackened chicken and gouda mac and cheese. we both loved our food choices and atmosphere. highly recommended

delicious gourmet at a reasonable price. the food here is amazing. there is no way, outside of cleveland, you could purchase such delicious cuisine at such a reasonable price. it is local, fresh and delicious. it is a lovely little restaurant. totally worth the visit, or two!

momocho used to be one of my favorite places. i've lived in ohio city since 2008 and love to support local businesses. my friend and i sat at the bar, ordered a sampler, and as we were waiting to decide official drinks, the bartender (manager) said to a man using a walker (who just arrived right after us) at the bar "either you can order or you can leave" without giving him 30 seconds. my friend and i followed him out to offer our apologies and offered to give him 10$ to have a drink on us at the next place-he refused the money and said he had money, but didn't even have time to order. then when i went back inside the bartender asked what i wanted, i said "i just i need a minute, i am surprised at the interaction between you and that man, it is really sad" and she responded by snatching our drinks and saying "then you aren't welcome here either". at that point, my friend and i were so shocked and horrified, we left to support an inclusive local business. because of this discrimination, and their response to me when i said i needed a minute to understand what just happened, i will never return to momocho. i did typically enjoy their margaritas in the past (not a fan of the food), but unfortunately, i wouldn't come back due to how they treat people.

i've been here numerous times and i've never been disappointed. we came here for our anniversary one year and they brought us a giant chocolate chip cookie that was baked into a cake pan with a sparkler on top....

overall, a bit overrated....but still a place you may want to try.  the wait staff, hostesses, etc. were all very efficient and helpful.  we were seated before our reservation time, which was nice.we were seated on the 2nd floor, which was uncomfortably warm.  it had to be 80 degrees with humidity inside.  not much different than the weather outside.  they could have cranked the a/c up a notch or two for customer comfort.  i was not enjoying sweating while i dine inside.the menu says to plan for a 2 hour dining experience, and they weren't kidding.  we got our guacamole & chips pretty quickly, but it was more than an hour before we saw our entrees.  the guac was delicious and probably the best part of the meal.  we got the smoked trout and bacon.  the flavors blended well.the margarita sampler was also something to try.  you get 3 half-sized drinks for abt. $15.  the waitress suggested trying the cucumber margarita, and she was right.  it was fantastic.the entrees were a little underwhelming.  despite the exotic sound of the taquito entrees in the menu....basically what you get is a plate of protein (beef, fish, pork, etc.) with the garnishments mentioned in the menu, plus two small cups of dipping sauce.  you roll your own small soft tacos with the taco shells that accompany the dish.  if you want beans and/or rice....you have to order that a la carte.i didn't have a problem with the overall cost of the meal.  all-in-all, the place unique and worth trying out.  i was thinking and hoping that this place would blow me away with all of the high ratings, but it didn't.
