what carnivore doesn’t appreciate braised beef, and in coffee?!…so much to love here. this beef was so flavorful, rich, juicy, and tender. both of us loved it, and there was so much left over that my mom took it home and fed my dad two tacos with it. absolutely outstanding with just a little bit of heat and endless flavor combinations.

the ohio city restaurant, featuring "mod mex" cuisine, is nestled in a cozy neightborhood with quaint homes and narrow alleys. once inside, the restaurant was very dark, very crowded, and somewhat intimidating because of its lucha libre and dia de los muertes themed decor, and its hip, slightly snobby wait staff. but that only made me feel more giddy... date night! no kids! restaurant featured on food network!

menu made me giddy. my sister-in-law chose this restaurant because she knew i liked adventurous dining experiences. while our husbands sipped worchestire beers, she and spend a good 15 minutes marking up our menu trying to order the perfect combination of dishes.

i loved the smoked trout guacamole and the scallops in creamed corn. our wild boar tacos were a little too tough to be enjoyable. the goat cheese and sweet potato empanadas were the guys' favorites. though our server highly recommended the sofrito green beans, i found them to be stringy and kind of bitter. vegetables are my favorite food group, so its unusual for me to not like a veggie dish. perhaps it was an off night for green beans?

the bill was more than i usually spend on a week's worth of groceries, but the overall experience, complete with candlelight and lucha libre decor was a bunch of fun.

this was as big winner in my book. the warmth of the dish made the cotija just gooey enough to make this veggie salad feel naughty. i’m always excited to see fennel incorporated into a dish, and was very pleased to see it in a warm salad option.

new favorite. i recently went to momocho for the first time and loved it. i ordered the margarita sampler and it was divine. it is weeks later and i can't stop thinking about it. (i ordered fig, guava and blood orange for the sampler.)

the guacamole (goat cheese version) was a very generous portion (2 of us couldn't come close to finishing it) and was wonderful. i wasn't overly impressed with the salsa but that could be because i am a guacamole lover.

we split two smaller plates: empanadas and something (i can't remember the name of it and the site is down) with chorizo. both were very good.

we sat at the bar and the service from the bartenders was very good. i'd say i'm sort of a cheapskate and was a little hesitant once i saw the prices on the menu, but i don't regret spending any of my hard earned money there.

i can't wait to return!

upscale mexican. without a doubt the best upscale mexican food i have ever tasted with a huge selection of tequila. it was also romantic which again is not something that you typically associate with mexican restaurants. i also loved the mexican wrestler decor.

my fiancee wanted to go to momocho for her birthday dinner. after reading all of the glowing reviews and even seeing them on unique eats, we just had to see what all the hype was about. it turned out that we met another couple for drinks before hand and asked them to join us for our meal! this would be our first time eating dinner at momocho. food we started our meal with the guacamole sampler. this gave us a chance to pick three different guacamole. from bottom to top in the picture below we picked the goat cheese with tomato chile and poblano peppers, the jicama with pineapple, chile habanero, and mint, and finally the garlic confit with bleu cheese, and chile verde. the goat cheese really stood out in contrast to the avacado. i enjoyed how each bite packed a punch. the sweet pineapple and jicama blend was my personal favorite because of the way it blended with the heat that came in late, and lingered on until the next bite. the bleu cheese had a lot of potential, but only a few bite

on to the entrees, my boyfriend and i decided to split the pork chop al carbon with mole coloradito and tamale dumplings and the butternut squash and goat cheese empanadas. we couldn’t have picked better options. the pork chop was thick, flavorful, and juicy. i couldn’t get enough of the mole.

good, but maybe not worth the hype?. i went to momocho after a friend of mine said she saw it on the food network. i tried a couple of the dishes, as well as the guac, and though i certainly wouldn't label it as bad mexi food i'm not sure it stood up to the hype. it was a very nice place, though there was a bit of a wait. we did sit outside (this was in the summertime), and it was a great time... but the prices seemed a bit much for what the food was. not sure i would make it a point to go back there as a result, but the food was certainly good.

mexican wow!. we were in cleveland 10/2/2011 and had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant. it is a hidden jewel. we had to wait for a table because it is extremely popular with the locals. we ordered the guacamole sampler. goat cheese (my personal favorite), smoked trout, and blue cheese. they all were awesome. bruce had the pork carnitas and i had the machaca (beef brisket). we shared an order of the grilled corn on the cob. the food was amazing. the employees were very helpful with suggestions. it is a bit pricey, but with the level of flavors and ambiance , it was well worth it. if in cleveland..we would go definitely go again.

service was fabulous. the staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and gave great recommendations. the food was delicious and great presentation. they weren't skimpy at all on the guacamole. only bad comment was the tortillas weren't very good.
