moe & johnny's

poor service. good breakfast, extremely poor service. ended up getting buffet, as it took 15 minutes to be recognized by an employee. we were passed by four different waitresses and even when waving, we were greet with a "what?". my boyfriend would have had atleast three plates offoodfrom the buffet if i had waited on a menu andfoodservice. very poor, no wonder folks are eating brunch on sundays at surrounding establishments.

i came here with friends on a saturday for brunch and loved it. lots of goodfoodfor a cheap price. however, i came here on a friday and was very disappointed. slow service to the point that we ordered two beers every time we finally got ahold of our waitress. it seemed like they should hire a couple more waitstaff. also, we were told the beers were $3 but when we got our check we were charged $4 a beer. when we asked, the waitress was rude and defensive. i was fairly annoyed when i left.

this is a different sort of review. i went here with my eldest son, for lunch. i am never sure why i don’t write about some joints that i go to. this is a perfectly fine place. clean and respectable; with good food. i know i have eaten here a few times; pre- blog days. and pat and i have been there a couple of times for beers. so today i write. adam ( my first-born ) likes to eat and cook he just isn’t crazy about it. so our conversation covered my grand daughters and his work. he has a real job. he has nothing to do withfoodand beverage. he ordered a pulled pork sandwich with bbq sauce . all he volunteered was that he liked it. he added the lettuce and tomato but removed the onion and pickle. so the pork sandwich has my kid’s approval.  i ordered an all american cheese burger. but first i determined it was indeed charbroiled and i could  get it mid-rare. i added cheddar and got the whole garden. usually i enjoy my burgers the same way i enjoy my irish whisky; neat. this was a fine a

this is one of the places that makes the neighborhood what it is - cozy. thefoodis good, not great. the prices are reasonable. $2.50 pints on thursdays, the best coffee bean in indy - black thunder - and a friendly, stable staff. it's everything it should be.

chance worth taking. when in town for the weekend we wanted to go to yat's but after arriving we found it crowded and not good for our kids. so we took a chance and walked across the street to moe & johnny's...and it was a chance worth taking! our waitress was wonderful and the menu was great. we got the gorgonzola pasta, a 10 inch pizza and the sampler platter and all shared. thefoodwas awesome and was enjoyed but all even our 4 & 6 year old had no complaints and loved all the food. we would definitly go back to this place when in indy.

not a good experience. all around bad experience. as soon as we were seated, we were asked for our drink orders. however, no one had brought us a menu that showed any drinks, just a little 3 x 7 card with some sandwich choices on it. after stalling with an order for water, i looked up the full menu on my iphone. when the waitress came back, she asked for our order. my wife ordered the veggie burger, and my sons had the chicken fingers. i accidentally said "chicken" sandwich, but caught myself and said "i mean fish." the waitress acknowledged that i changed my order to fish, but wasn't writing anything down. i knew that was a bad sign. my wife and i also ordered drinks using the menu on my iphone.

her beer arrived several minutes before mine. i assumed that was because her's was a wheat bear and mine was a guinness and they were doing a proper long pour. but when my guinness arrived several minutes later, it had a thin head and was still cascading. long wait for a badly poured guinness.

while waiting for the food, i stepped away from the table to use the restroom. it was a disgrace. someone had missed the toilet with a very messy bowel movement. and that had long since dried, meaning no one had bothered cleaning the mess for hours. that was a horror show.

i got back to the table and while telling my wife to beware the restroom (there was only the one unisex restroom that i could find) ourfoodarrived. obviously i wound up with a chicken sandwich. when the woman who brought thefoodasked who had the grilled chicken, i explained that i had ordered the fish. her response was "we don't grill fish." since i never said anything about "grilled" i felt that was out of line. but whatever. i explained that i preferred it not be grilled, and i had definitely ordered fish.

my wife and sons started working on their food, but in reaching for the ketchup for my boys, my wife accidentally spilled my still nearly full guinness, which drained everywhere. a passing busser offered us a towel, but that was the extent of the waitstaff's response to that.

when our waitress finally got back to us, she asked how everything was. i told her i'd gotten the wrong thing but apparently my correct order was coming out. she saw my empty glass and asked if i wanted to order another beer. right next to my empty glass was still a beer soaked towel and the remnants of a puddle on the concrete (we were outside). i said "not one i have to pay for." and she just gave me a weird look. it's not a requirement, but most places i've been, full spilled drinks are replaced with complimentary ones.

when my fish sandwich arrived after all that, it was a disappointment--a small cod fillet not much bigger than a fish finger on a full-size hamburger bun. there was so much more bun than fish, it was comical.

we ate and paid in a hurry after that and got out of there. it's not a place we plan to ever go back to.

i went on a sunday right after church...was in need of somefoodbig time.

servers were very friendly and the service was fast.

i had the fish and chips and my date had the tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese pizza. good stuff... she tried mine and i tried hers..we both concurred on great choices.

all was very good.

the have a few other nice things on the menu that looked good. i will try them next time...

great bar spot. i typically go to moe & johnnys, because of it convenient location. the drinks andfoodare both reasonably priced as well. i usually sit at the bar, and the bartenders are always very attentive and nice. i would highly recommend the mozzerella, basil, tomato pizza, it's amazing. they cook it in a tombstone oven, which makes the wonderfully thin crust nice and crisp. it tastes very light too! i would also recommend the buffalo chicken salad. the appetizer platter is a joke, however. i once ordered one to share between myself and one other person.. it looked like a kids meal. two mozz stix, two potato skins, three onion rings, and two chix tenders. for the price, it's definitley not worth it. other than that, i have no complaints, and i will continue to frequent moe & johnnys!

what is awesome at moe and johnny's. the first thing you will notice when you walk into this fine establishment is the awesome decor, and atmosphere. a quick conversation with the friendly staff will also explain how the place formed out of several little stores on that same corner! the inside has a great brick oven, that is used (not just decor) and the inside walls are painted to look like a corner strip from the day's gone by. very very cool. my first impression of thefoodwas a little ho-hum, but it has a good buzz about it, and the atmosphere was so good i had to give it another shot. im very glad i did!! the philly cheese steak is what i always eat now, and if you want a very hearty and awesome meal this is what i recommend. other things i have had are good, but that philly is magical. please give this local place your money.. you will not be disappointed.

veggie burger & chili. we stopped by moe and johnny's to for lunch and to watch a colt's game. i ordered the garden burger, which was good and very reasonably priced. my friend had the vegetarian chili, which looked delicious, and he agreed that it was very good. another friend had the penne with a gorgonzola cream sauce, which he always orders when eating here. the service was good, i liked the sports bar atmosphere, and thefoodwas good as well. can't wait to go back and sit on the patio and try the veggie chili.

pretty darn good. a very nice neighborhood sports bar...with above average pub grub....usually excellent and attentive service by fun...and attractive servers. the manager and assistant manager are constantly bussing tables...fetching beers...which is always a good sign. hustling managers set a good example...and can take of the slack for a server/bartender in the weeds.

atmosphere is fun..but polluted...really cant be in here during the winter with a decent crowd...don't understand why places such as this don't go "non-smoking"....every bar/restaurant owner i have spoken to...has seen an increase in business when they went non-smoking.

keep in mind...demographically...non-smokers are better educated..earn a higher income...tend to order more expensive items...and more expensive cocktails...which, typically are higher margin. non smokers tend to have larger checks per person.

the negative with non-smokers...is they tend to pay by c.c. thus the establishment has to pay the c.c fees

good food, slow service. i was at first a little taken aback by not being greeted upon entering the restaurant and i had to eventually talk to a cook to find a server and get seated. once seated the service was much better and thefoodwas good. "home style" type cooking at a reasonable price. my only problem was the 95 cent substitution fee for french fries with a burger. chips are their standard side.
