went to mkc after seeing it has zomato pro. the restaurant was not crowded when i went which was around 3:30. the menu can be scanned using a qr code and the waiter disappeared for sometime after giving me that . i tried calling them for getting my order and no one came. i got tired and i had to get up and go near the kitchen to call them. at this point the restaurant was not crowded too. then the manager took my order and after taking my order, the waiter came back and told me that the maggi is not available. then changed my order to amul cheese and crushed guntur toast and ghee roast paneer.

i specifically told them to bring whatever is ready first.. but the starter and mains wereservedtogether and the starter was not hot.

both the main and starter tasted okayish but the quantity was good. the toast was just amul cheese and masala on top of thick slice of bread . it would have tasted good if it wasservedhot. the panneer ghee roast wasservedwith rice and the rice was too good whereas the paneer gravy tasted like paneer chunks in tomato sauce. the gravy as such did not have flavour. this wasservedin a tiffin dabba which was cute. but the overall taste was somewhat ok and there was only tomato flavour. i had ordered a sundae and when i asked them what flavour it was the manager couldn’t explain the flavour to me. the sundae was good and the only thing that spoilt it was the jelabi on top, which was too sweet for me.

the worst part of my entire experience for me was when i payed the bill through zomato pro, the waiter literally forced me to give them a good review in front of him. so i gave them a 5 star and told him, i’ll do the rest later . he didn’t let me leave and started using my phone to go to the review page without even asking me. he made me click pictures and even asked me to type something good before he let me leave. i was happy before they did this.. but i didn’t like their behaviour. until this their service was really good. hope they don’t force customers to give forced reviews

please don't order from here. after seeing so many positive reviews i ordered crunchy pork from here. they haveservedsome other meat so deep fried so that the customer doesn't recognize it. as someone who eats pork very often i can vouch that that wasn't pork. the picture given by them in the menu on swiggy and the dish has no comparison what so ever. do not fool people like this.

madras kitchen company is a nice restaurant located in westin hotel, velachery (opposite guru nanak college)

an indian restaurant worth trying.

what i ordered :
1. banana wrapped mahi mahi meen polichathu, coconut & shallot sambhal and rice appalam
2. mkc mutton biriyani (a must try)
3. beef pepper fry, mini malabar parottas
4. brownie monster shake

starter :
the banana wrapped meen polichathu was really good. it had a nice flavour balance to it with a sour note at the end. the appalam and sambhal combination were really good together

the main course :
1. mkc mutton biriyani is a definite must try here. it is given along with onion raita, brinjal masala and a fried egg. this biriyani a mild amount of spice to it. it had the perfect amount of ghee to it and a considerable amount of mutton pieces making this an amazing dish totally worth trying.
2. the beef pepper fry and parotta were really good as well. the parottas were soft and flaky and the beef was filled with flavour. but it was a little hard in texture which made it difficult for us to eat.

dessert : the brownie freak shake was not up to the mark. it was notservedcold making the whole milkshake experience disappointing. the taste was good but the warm milkshake masked the taste.

the ambience is really good - well spaced seating and lovely interior decor.
the service was really good. the staff were courteous and brought the food with no delays.

a nice place to try indian food with a twist. would love to come here again for the lovely starters and main food, but desserts need a lot of improvement.

fantastic ambience. very affordable menu for 5 star experience ! and the portion size is also quite good. ordered the thai red curry flavored skewer and vada pav for starters. both were average. but the neer dosa and paneer ghee roast more than made up for it. brilliantly cooked, had the right flavors. and was very filling. has a limited menu but would definitely recommend. the cocktails were brilliant. one of them wasservedin a very cute looking glass. ordered shahi tukda for dessert and that was simply awesome. great service !

had a terrible experience at madras kitchen company. only good thing about the restaurant was the food presentation. foodservedwas very substandard in taste and absolute disaster. not many main course options for vegetarians and they proudly deny such main or side options for vegetarians by recommending egg and non veg gravies. poor service by mr. prasanna. there are many better restaurants in the city which offer better indian/south indian fusion food at better rates. waste of money!

we went to this place on nov 18th and it was just horrible experience. we were literally waiting to get out of this place. we were forced to come to this restaurant based on the recommendation from front office personnel (looks like they were forced to sell the same message to all the visitors). every order of the food items which we ordered was delayed with a time lag of 30-40 min. all the food items which gotservedwere completely blunt in taste. perhaps, the chef might be new to this place or spices could be out of stock including salt. especially a special mention about the thai shrimps - it was completely stinking in taste and iam sensing it could have been a rotten material. lastly i would not suggest this restaurant to anyone..not even to the in-house guests.

recently visited madras kitchen company for lunch.. it’s really a nice place to experience the real taste of street food of asia and india. the dishes here are truly authentic…it is a newly opened restaurant inside the westin chennai. the menu is designed like a newspaper named namma chennai. the food tastes homely, not oily and not much spicy… it’s always important to get off to a headstart to make a meal memorable. we started with

amul cheese and crushed guntur chillies toast:

this was literally, the first thing that i ordered1 only for the love of the cheese. and when you notice with some hot spicy chillies specially hand-picked from “guntur” excited me a lot. 4pcs wereservedalong with their unique and exotic tamarind sauce, which sounds weird, but it actually tastes better. my only suggestion would be to add the number of slices! xd

mkc style vada pav:

this one’s for the love of bombay! the soft & fluffy “pav” with “vadas” filled with boiled and mashed masala potatoes. but the real flavour heats up with the spicy dry garlic chutney and when the fried green chillies heats up the moment! and doubles the level of taste. honestly, that was the best vada pav i’ve ever had.

ghee tossed podi idli:

the dish that i’ve been having it from my childhood, definitely i had so much of expectations especially from this one. the best part about this was the way it arrived! in a tiffin box. yes! that was such nostalgia!!! talking about the taste, it was superb. but the korma was not upto the mark! my suggestion would be to spice up things and add some vegetables. but the idli is still quivering in my mind! the softness and the spiceness was just perfect, just like a match made in heaven!

pot paneer soda:

the infusion of paneer soda, which is famous in the south and getting it in a poch hotel like “westin” was a massive surprise for me! there was innovation in this too! serving it in a mud pot with loads of ice, and trust me, it was so so refreshing and helped me throughout the meal, its totally worth it.

wooooooh !! this was soo exciting! starters were so good, i just felt like i was roaming in the streets with local food. just loving it! moving on to the main course for the day!

veg. quinoa tawa pulao:

not having much of varities for the vegetarians out there! though disappointed, the quinoa tawa pulao was something which is not common in restaurants, it was different and that is why i love trying out different things and being adventurous is my style! though it didn’t come upto my expectations and it could’ve been more spicy, it wasservedwith some onion raita, which was impressive but, in my view, the right side would be some spicy pickle or vinegar onions, on the whole, it was a good and a memorable experience!

aloo chole aur kulche, kasundhi mirchi:

i must say, by far the most underrated dish of the day! when i saw the item and i just expected it to normal chole and some assorted breads, but i was so damn impressed with the taste of their kulche and the chole was just mouth-watering! it was indeed very yum, that i doubled up my order. the softness of the kulche and the spicy chole makes it an unbreakable jodi. the “kasundhi mirchi” and “groundnut mint coriander chilli chutney” which was brought alongside the chole was just making the moment heavenly!

veg. dumblings:

not been a big fan of dumblings before, but wait a minute! the mkc-chennai have changed my mind! the taste was pure and yummy, it was stuffed with tasty pokchoy, tofu, shiitake and celery. 4pcs wereserveddressed beautifully, half-drowned in schezwan soup which made it awfully look good.

buuuuuurp! that was one hell of a ride! but since its newly developing restaurant in the city, there should be more items to be added upon to the menu to offer the people!!

no matter, how, much i eat, there’s always room for desserts! moving on to my favourite section of my reviews.  finally, so many options to choose from!

nutella shake

who doesn’t love nutella? with the goodness of nutella, and vanilla ice-creams and whipped cream with sugar sprinklers to top it off was just looking and seducing me to crave for it! as soon as the waiterservedus, i immediately started having it. oh, my goodness! it was just brilliant! i just couldn’t believe for once, that such a heavenly thing would even exist in the world! it was my favourite!

chocolate brownie freak shake:

after much dilemma, i went with the “chocolate brownie freak shake” being the big big choc-lover i really anticipated on this one. filled with the milkshake made up of the bulk of brown brownies and chocolate syrup and yummy vanilla icecream! as it’s a freak shake, it demands to be gorgeous! and it indeed was with some honey showerings, whipped cream and was topped with cadbury gems and it looks way better than me describing it here, in words!

chocolate textures with berries:

well, this is one of the signature dishes of mkc-chennai, just like how fishes can’t without water, i can’t live without desserts! this came out pretty unexpected, but its name on the menu was very intriguing and increased my levels of curiosity! pretty much shocked seeing it and it felt like heaven after tasting it! with layers of gelatin chocolate, with a soft chocolate bar as its core, and a layer of smashed berries around it. the whole experience was very unique and will definitely have an everlasting impact.

veg options were less but really enjoyed the dishes what we had.. the place had a good vibe and the staff were so helpful..

meal for two inr 1,200 approx
definetly will go back again to enjoy the array of dishes at this cozy place

the word 'madras' is always special to anyone who loves the city. this establishment is within the westin, velachery and was a oriental place (five sen5es) earlier.

the westin- velachery is bang opposite to gurunanak college. parking is within the premises.

the menu is elaborate with sufficient scope of indian and pan asian dishes. the cuisene is mostly indian geography based, could have added more madras based dishes was what i felt. the ambiance is quite rustic however not much changed from what five senses had.

started with the drinks - masala bovonto and paneer soda which were refreshing. serving in an earthern pot makes it more quirky.

then we had the ghee toasted podi idli, veg korma, chilli shallot coconut relish which is the apt madrasi dish. never had a podi idli with korma, this was an interesting find. the thai red curry based babycorn skewers were crunchy and went well with som tam, tamarind mayo. then we had hyderabadi haleem which needs more bone content in it while slow cooked, to make it more authentic.

the dumplings platter in chili broth was a feel-good dish. the bombay sampler of ragda, misal and bhaji with butter pao is the street food platter tasting right outta maharashtra.

we then had the seasonal saag (palak) with makki roti, malai and mkc gilli biryani. both were very good and gilli biryani was more comfortable to have , the way it looked. saag was however very close to homestyled than commercial.

a meal, definitely ends with sweet delishes - madras kitchen sundae, gelatos, jalebi & mango cheesecake and shahi tukda pudding, pistachio sauce anglaise. they were both happy ending desserts. servings were quirky enough- pudding wasservedin a tea vessel and sundae , in a wine glass.

the service was friendly. the prices are lesser than usual star properties for attracting the graduating youths.

aaj ki taza khabar..

if your looking for butter chicken which reminds you of delhi,

if your looking for mutton chuka which reminds you of say hyderabad

if your looking for gili biryani which gives you the vibes of namma chennai..

and your search stops here.. at madras kitchen company. set at westin hotel, velacherry

they have the concept to make the foodie in you feel like home with a twist. isnt that a good thought?

so  i'll quickly hit the food part, obviously there are two portions like small plates and large plates.

small plates :

1. thai shrimp garlic toast with chili cucumber relish

2. mutton sukha, neer dosa , thecha, muthi pyaz

3. chicken bullet chili, peanuts

4. podi idli

5. wok tossed fish

so the small plates are filling in itself. like the fish and bullet chicken has about 6-7 pieces

thai shrimp toast- 3 slices, and sukha also is like a small meal for one.

big plates :

butter chicken and 2 parathas

mutton gili biryani

to drink i had panner soda. which wasservedin a matka, cool style huh.

did not have any space for dessert. so ended the meal with a garma garam adrak/ginger chai.

review :

i mean for a foodie, we always look for places that give you good vibes and food that comforts you. so here is the place which ticks that list. pretty affordable. for the star hotel like approx 1000- 1500 without alcohol, which is pretty good i feel. love

wonderful concept of street food with a modern twist, servedin a great ambience. the menu is a delight in a newspaper format, offering small and big plates for everyone sharing on the table to get a taste of many different dishes. we tried many items, the mushroom bao and pork folded bao was a favourite, but everything tasted fresh and flavourful. a must visit when in chennai, well done on a well executed dining concept.
