milk & honey bar

oct 2018 - this place has being growing well, have been frequenting often and find the food, service and entertainment really good. still a lover of the teaspot and menu has been changed up a bit. they definitely move up to 4!

2017 - the new addition to monte casino square. its beautifully elegant with a french style decor, quite a change from the previous jenda. the wait staff are also dressed to fit in. the idea was saturday night dinner but the menu is limited. it is on the pricier side, can't justify 4 crumbed prawns at 135. it was also breaded and not tempura as per menu. we also tried the hoisin chicken wings, pototo skins and onion rings. both wings and prawns served with sweet chilli sauce or as they classify it chilli jam, no ginger dipping sauce as per menu. onion rings were flat and not tempura crispy.

for a bar the drinks, cocktail and wine menu is good. there is also no tv in here which i get will damper the look and concept. my teaspot was lovely served in a teapot. service is great and the complimentary truffle honey popcorn was nice. to come in for a quick drink and snack maybe before or after the show is ideal but not a place l'd linger long enough for. i know i will go back and try this place again based on location but as the sister branch of limas first impression was just not as good.

open for less than a month, milk & honey is a unique place for a few reasons: the decor is very special, right down to the french graffiti; the service is excellent, wait staff are very friendly and happy to tweak the menu slightly; and a unique birthday jam that puts a smile on everyone's faces. the food offering tries to be unique - perhaps a little too much? however we tried most items from the starters and a few from the mains, with some ice cream to round things off. honey is a common theme, along with truffle oil that perhaps pops up a few too many times on the menu to remain niche. but the menu is a work-in-progress, so look out for good changes. the cheese burger though, hit the spot. well worth a visit, even if only for the impressive drinks selection.

what a wonderful setting & decor, food packed with flavour, servers full energy and helpful.
signature cocktail milk & honey, took a bit to get used to, unique and fun the addition of soda water broke the sweetness.
starters we had a variety each had a good flavour and filling.
duck & cherry pie had a hidden heat enough to notice & enhance the flavour, rich and delicious would order it again.
hubby's burger flavour and combo well matched and he left with a grin.
would recommend and visit again. @zamedic

same owners and chef as lima tapas bar - so was expecting as wonderful an experience as i had had at lima - and was not wrong :) beautifully decorated with light wood and french inspired finishes, the service staff were friendly and helpful in making suggestions. light menu - tapas, burgers and the like, do yourself a favour and try a "teaspot" tea pot cocktail as well as the arancini balls and the popcorn with honey truffle oil - it is to die for!! outdoor seating area for smokers and a fun vibe as the sun goes down. dj's on the decks on weekends - no cover charge and their first thursday parties are great fun. highly recommended!

mother’s day fail.

i am the first person to recommend milk & honey to the population of south africa but milk & honey has fallen so hard in my rankings post mothers day that i actually haven’t even been back to the place ever since despite its amazing haloumi fries, fried biltong, shisha and seared beef salad.

the mother’s day “spread” consisted of (takes deep breath) 4 rock hard sandwiches with underwhelming fillings, rock hard croissants, checkers macaroons and a milk tart cup. it took 45 minutes for the high tea experience to arrive even though the high tea had been booked by me 24 hours in advance and the restaurant had not even gotten busy for the mothers day service. to top it all off; it didn’t even arrive on a three tier tray; it arrived in plates. even our waiter was like “this is bad sorry guys but here you go”.

mothers day was pretty much ruined until our waiter came along much later and gave my mom some extra bubbly. nice gesture and nice touch from the friendly staff who were clearly working under strange managerial conditions.

i'm sorry to say that this is by far the worst restaurant i've been to in terms of food. decor is stunning, staff are wonderful but the food oh my word is horrendous!! to start i ordered the milk&honey cocktail because it sounded interesting (note to self if a cocktail has chocolate milk and soda water in it don't order it) it was gross..the starter nachos are tasteless, the prawn salad was the only mildly okay-ish dish, i had the duck & cherry pot pie which the middle of the pastry was raw and the inner filling was mostly oil...so much oil it was sickening to eat so i just left it, my hubby said his main tasted like a steak from wimpy! didn't trust to order dessert from that place so just left and went elsewhere in monte for dessert ..will never return not even for drinks

this place is the epitome of class and elegance. tops in every way. the waiters are beautifully presented and well dressed. the teams are friendly and knowledgeable. chandeliers, french sayings, black and white decor, this place oozes beauty. the music is trendy and inviting....wine list and menu is extensive and perfectly paired. chef justine is just the best. sister restaurant to lima tapas and you now know why. worth it. be there again soon.

we had an excellent evening! our waiter dumisani was excellent, kind, and very attentive to our table. milk and honey bar has a great atmosphere! love it! just a bit overpriced.

i experienced a bad time , the staff really reciprocated what management is ...which is not up to par and rude as well .

the host or whoever the guy is that stands at the door is just plain down rude to customers! i will never be returning to milk and honey. what a shame he ruins the place.

went on a thursday before the after work rush because i’ve seen snippets of what seems like a nice restaurant. we didn’t make a reservation and all the tables outside were reserved, which led us to sit inside. there was only 1 other patron inside, besides us.
those rose gold lounge chairs? cute in theory but super uncomfortable.
i got the impression that it’s more a nightlife place, as some seats were dirty with cigarette burns.
but we were there for the food. it was quite pricey so i expected great food. starters (prawns and calamari) were underwhelming - i had to request lemon because salt and tobasco weren’t really helping.
mains, we ordered the baby chicken and the burger. i enjoyed my burger, it was juicy and the cheese and onion marmalade was a killer combo. the baby chicken on the other hand was dry (overcooked). my poor partner referred to it as biltong.
we didn’t have dessert and didn’t really stay, i wasn’t too impressed and i really wanted to love it. our waiter was polite, the hostess/ manager walked up and down but never really greeted or enquired on our experience.
i’m sure it’s best to go for a vibe and drinks.

i was very excited to try mh upon reading the menu, however, was disappointed after trying a few of the appetizers. they were quite average for the price. the dessert on the other hand were divine! i would highly recommend going for dessert rather than a meal. both desserts that we tried were delicious! suggestion: milk tart (the cinnamon ice-cream is amazing)

a lovely place where you can have dinner and enjoy some relaxed time with a friend, partner or a combination. the food menus is a bit thing though - not much to go on.

this is normally a place for drinks with friends and enjoying great vibes. they do serve food but they are quite pricey so i only managed to sample their milk tart dessert. the milk tart dessert was in effect a milk tart ice cream with cookie crumble. it really looked pretty but it was a bit too sweet. overall, this place does have a good vibe and the location elevates the atmosphere of the place.

this place is a massive waste of money. for what you pay and what you get, you definitely don’t getting your moneys worth. i will not be returning to this venue
