top 10 bar? not really.. worst service in a bar ever. rude and arrogant staff. bar was not even busy and i was spoken to like i was scum. walked in, walked out.

worst staff i have ever experienced.. when approaching bar, bartender questioned why i was wearing sunglasses. when i pointed out i am visiually impaired, this exhange happened.

"why are you wearing sunglasses?"
"because i'm going blind."
"but you're looking right at me."
".....i still have a face and have to look somewhere."
"how did you know what drink to order then?!?"
my sister then approached to defend me: "because i'm her seeing eye twin and i read her the menu!"
"but she is looking straight at me!"

i then had to walk away before i said some not nice things, and that was an awesome reminder of to why i never used to go up to bar counters by myself due to lack of confidence because of my disability.

really disappointing! we had a terrible welcome at the door after waiting in line, followed by a sarcastic and offensive discussion with bar staff! myself and other guests at my table were unable i finish the "lady slayer" even though we were only given what appeared to be half a cocktail in the glass!.. way to strong to enjoy! will give it a second chance but definitely not any time soon...

nice hangout if you can get a seat. like everyone else who wants to be here, its hard to get a seat and sometimes the queue can take a while on weekends.

i do like it, its casual and cosy. service, burgers and cocktails are good. would be interested on how it is on windy/winter days. perfect for summer nights though.

disappointing staff attitude was a let down and over priced drinks.. great location and outdoor area, but the bar staff was just rude! when we asked him what sort of drink the place does well, he blabbered on something about "thats like asking a dj what sort of song you like"... even with a half empty bar took a while for someone to serve us.... sadly this place needs some work... other than that.. the location is cool... just need to work on staff manners and possibly rethink prices

am a huge fan,but...... the bar staff need to learn a little bit about service. in my two visits i've not been short of conversation as have been astounded at the blatant rude attitudes of bar staff!!! if we could replace them with the lovely staff from flipside i would lose the but!

lose the attitude! when you're asked for a suggestion of what's a good rum cocktail, "how long is a piece of string" is not a cool response. all it tells me is you have no idea. and when asked if you can make a cocktail you've never heard of, don't get defensive and make out like we are idiots. how about going into your list of "700 cocktails on our database" and checking it or just saying, "i'm not sure but can i make you something else". oh yeah, and your mixers are flat! being cool isn't about being ignorant. that said, your cocktails do taste good. please mechanics work on the customer service.

a few of the staff on duty on new year's eve were enough to put me off coming back. pity. i'm all on for the cool, small bar thing but bar staff with an attitude, no thanks.

my hubby and i were off to a show at the heath ledger theatre in northbridge and decided to try the mechanics institute bar which is very close by. the entrance is off the laneway next to

best of perth. this place is an absolute gem! i went to the mechanics' institute on a tuesday night after a sobering experience at ezra pound, and what an improvement it was. the design is modern and light, with a fantastic rooftop deck to unwind on, drink in hand.

the barstaff were unpretentious and knowledgeable, and the cocktails were reasonably priced and really delicious. if you want a taste of melbourne (but still with the flavour of perth), then this is the place for you.

i'll definitely be back, admiring the night sky over a cocktail or two. just lovely!

good place for a burger n chips with a couple of different aussie beers on offer. friendly staff and great atmosphere in the afternoon sun. will be back for sure.

urban, grungy, warehouse feel with scaffolding, exposed brick and long plank tables – then inside their bar tenders are renowned for their cocktails. entrance is via a back alley making this northbridge roof top bar feel like you could be in melbourne lane way. best of all, you can order a flipside burger from the bar and it gets delivered to your table. beer is reasonably priced as are cocktails that range from $12 to $17. it’s a busy place and the bar is often two deep on friday evenings. despite the staff shaking and stirring cocktails for eager patrons, the efficient service means you are served quite quickly. a cool place that attracts a mixed age group. i like it.

...we opted for another pint and some burgers, which were convieniently delivered from flipside below. the burgers were pretty decent although a little cold. however, when compared to our flipside benchmark (wembley), they were undoubtedly sub par.
